Love your videos.... Was nervous owing a ranger till I found your channel.... Find all the stuff you post very well presented and informative... Great stuff👌
Another great video tutorial. Really detailed explanation. Every after a service I always add injector cleaner. I always take 100km as my E. The minimum at every top up I'd put at the pump would be at least 7 litres.
Thank you for your wise advice.Ive been running HOT SHOTS diesel fuel ⛽️ additives for several years in our 2 litre VW diesels ..I’ve tried all them ALL and I’ll swear it the best product on the market 😊😊
My ford ranger had done over 400,000 kls when I sold it. I never had any issues with it. Same injectors. Same auto transmission. I never used truck diesel and avoided the cheap diesel at the quicky marts. Always bp or ampol premium fuel.truck diesel is of contaminants possibly also vegetable oils They quickly clog the filter and reduce flow which is needed to cool the injectors. The engine still runs fine but reduced flow through the rail overheats the injectors.
Thanks for the great video ... good tips you confirmed alot of things my diesel mech friends have advised. I don't have a Ford Ranger - Toyota Fan boy - Prado owner. Thank you.
Great video mate as always. Very valuable resource for ranger owners. I personally installed a secondary fuel filter with water trap just as a precaution. Primary gets changed once a year regardless of KMs, but usually around 15k, and the secondary every 2 years. Seems to do the trick. Now just have to get familiar with forscan which I have been putting off.
Agree with everything you have said ,, also coatings wear on the injector internals creating poor spray patterns and unequal volumes . Poor fuel consumption and possibly high combustion temps can also occur . Carbon build up and piston erosion /cracking can occur . This is very vehicle model specific . When DID first started some brands updated every 2 years .
I service every 8k on a 2015 with 180k on the clock , I do a fuel filter every service and run CRD injector clean in every full tank ..I hope it helps me in the long run
Your probably right. Im work as a mechanic, and generally modern diesel injectors are pretty solidly reliable. One thing I cow across an awful lot is people putting low grade diesel and part biodiesel in their cars which most vehicles since the year 2000 are not compatible with at all. It’s the most common cause of bad emissions here. It was a long time ago that diesels would run on anything you put in the tank almost.
Great information, however there is one other failure point and that is failure of the plunger springs in the injector pump. Metal particles from the broken springs enter the injectors causing damage. Found all three plunger springs broken on inspection and all 5 injectors required replacing.
Really enjoy your videos as I have a 2.2 2014,100 000km. But I have an odd intermittent serge whilst driving. But is more noticeable whilst driving slower uphill. Used injector cleaner hasn't helped. Have you heard of something like this? Torque converter
If you got an auto just watch the tranny. Garbage made. Do the fluids In em regularly because they is garbage. Mine had it done around 250 thou km, before i got it.
And a pre/post filter is insanely necessary my ranger blew up over a year ago now and it was due to an under fueling injector in cylinder 3 hence why these motors begin to knock and either blow holes in pistons or melt pistons enough to get piston knock it’s not fun we spent upwards of 10000 dollars to rebuild our motor and that was doing it our self
Is there perhaps a possibility on doing a video about lifting the Ford Ranger? What is involved, how high is your lift etc? Specifically asking about CVs and when to do a diff drop etc. Thanks again for the awesome videos.
do a diff drop if u going above 2inch. and upper control arms. CVs are pretty strong, but will wear. 10 years on original cvs with 3.3 inch lift in front and they need replacing
I agree 100% replacement of the fuel filter every 10k with a quality factory filter. Only fill up at high turnover of diesel servo, not some dodgy operator sometimes cheap fuel with low cetane that might contain water & blended with who knows what, there is way too much money at stake. I have been doing this with my LC200 for many years, touch wood I have been lucky.
Since off the factory floor my BT has had fuel filter replacement every 10k, as well as an injector cleaner….i also never went to Mazda for any servicing, always my local trusted mech. For the small price of the filter and cleaner, you’re crazy if you don’t.
Not sure if its same there in AUS but here in PH parts of Ford are expensive, so things like this I do because in my mind injectors are more expensive than changing fuel filter every 10k.
Thanks for the detailed vedio, however i have my own ranger with 40k milage and suffering from misfire in cylinder 4, so i swapped the injector 2&4 then the misfiring trasferred to cylinder 2, which shows assure the trouble is in the injector, is there away to repair the injector and how, also the contrbution is showing 1 for all cylinders
Looking at your fuel filter being black tells me you have a fungle infection in your fuel tank and fuel. Your get this a lot in boats and it blocks up filters. The new common rail pressures and injector nozzle sizes are designed to inject diesel only. Water and organic matter does not go through system well so you end up blowing the tip off the injector. At that point you have blow torch rather then a functional injector.
I have a 2017 ford ranger 2.2 diesel. My car don't want to accelerate and smokes black smoke after I have changed my injectors with 2nd hand ones. My mechanic is saying I must buy a new realise bearing n a diesel pump. Any recommendations pls
The injectors fail from people using cheap fuel. Comon rail needs premium diesel fuel. Cheap fuel clogs the filter. The engine still seems to run ok but the lack of flow makes the injectors overheat
Some models with reduced or stopped contamination from EGR delete or restriction and catch cans. Remember a choked up inlet manifold will NOT fill cylinders with air properly . This can cause fuelling issues unknown to driver . Every 100,000km egr /manifolds need cleaning . Injectors spay pattern and volume need inspection every 100,000km also . In years gone by diesel fuel system servicing was included 30+yrs ago
I had my engine blow at 52,000 i serviced the car every 10k but if i was going on a long trip i would service it even if it done a few thousand ks,my #5 injector failed killed the engine, since the new motor been installed ive done about 60k on it i run fuel doctor on every tank,i also use a scangauge 3 and it has the cylinder balance on it i highly recommended that unit, can monitor in real time the engine
If you can get a heat gun onto each exhaust port that will accurately isolate differences in performance, a cylinder or cylinders with lower exhaust gas temperatures than others indicate reduced power output.
What are you doing running the same Fuel Filter for 20,000 km😅 I change my fuel filter every 8,000km without fail. My Ranger 3.2L is currently at 380,000+ km and i still have the same Injectors and same turbo. The engine still runs like new.
Ive started changing my fuel filter every 10000km too. Have seen some comments that its more important in more humid areas. Already on my second engine due to injector/pump failure so trying everything I can to not have to go through that again.
What most people dont realise is when you change your fuel filter you add contaminents. More changes more contaminents. I do the fuel filter on my hilux every 40 thousand kms. No probs so far 230 thousand kms on it now.
high pressure = high wear Injectors go out of spec caused by internal wear and this changes air fuel ratio [volume ] . Dirty and worn injectors also cause bad spray patterns. Many other brands have had upgraded internal injector parts .so they stay in spec longer. Remember nearly all internal parts are wear items ,so it comes down to the resellers and how much greed they want to inflict . IE there are Factory Bosch reconditioned units but I have not found them with in Australia . All the places I have asked sell only new . Watch out for the grey imports , no warranty within ozzy And of course there are fakes in Bosch boxes
The doesel we get these days is garbage. Dirty as anything cut the filter at 15togh kms black as. Was taking to a diesel injector/ pump guy we were talking 300d mercedes. He was saying throw some mirror oil in with the diesel. Dont know about common rail though. They did take the sulphur out so it is less lubricity.
Rangers need full filter change often or their drivers start tail gating, they start wearing hi vis and become abusive lunatics. You'll know its bad when you get a sleeve tat and a pair of pit vipers. Maintenace is key.
This is because of its poor design. The previous model never had this issue; my 2006 Mazda BT 50 doesn't have it either. 4:32. 15,000 PSI. Wrong, more like 26,000 PSI.
I have a P5AT in a court case atm with a melted No3 piston after a test drive. Do you have a contact number? This video is exactly what I'm facing. Thanks, Dan
Australia has poor quality fuel (petrol/diesel). Due to Canberra being infested with oil companies hobbling. We should have 10ppm like Europe but for some reason Australia stuck in the dark ages of 150ppm.
We are a bosch service centre so see a ton of injectors everyday, mostly is down to fuel contamination, or just eroding over normal service life. Injectors have never been a forever part, they are a finite life component and just wear out.
Your story doesn't match, you say you have put 2 sets of injectors in at the start of the video, inferring that the vehicle has seen 3 sets, then late around the 5 minute area you claim to have only replaced them once. Pretty poor life expectancy, my Toyota has 420,000km on the originals and all 8 are working perfectly according to the service people I use. Chemtech's Diesel Power is a brilliant maintenance item, I use it in my trucks (Cummins and Volvo engines) and it more than pays for itself many times over. An Australian product as well. I am wise enough to not own a Fraud Danger.
meant to say the second set, tho you seem a bit misinformed regarding common rail injectors, would highly recommend you check out the youtube channel Fourby4Diesel paying particular attention to the Injector replacement for the Toyota 1KD.
It's not just diesel. Petrol is usually quite contaminated as well. I reckon CR fuel systems are just more susceptible due to the extreme pressures involved. The higher the pressure, the smaller the nozzle, so you don't see the contamination effects as much with petrol due to the relatively larger nozzle sizes.
Nice video mate . For every horror story you read online about melted pistons on BT and Rangers ( which definitely happens ) there is hundreds of them running around fine . I know a few people with 350 k + on their Rangers and they are running perfectly . I’m more concerned about the dreaded oil pump failing 🤞
These utes are junk, all the fanboys who fell for the marketing and wanted to "race" people in their ute. Utes are meant to be reliable work horses not toss pots driving around town with all the gear on them but no idea and don't even use the gear they put on them to look "cool". Having changed my own fuel filters for a while now and seeing the horrors inside, I find the contamination argument quite plausible.
Your information and advice on the 3.2 show you have a very detailed understanding, Cheers.

Does your secondary fuel filter affect the engine power?
@BenjosMr not at all. It's 11 micron. Factory filter is somewhere between 3 and 5 so the restriction hasn't changed at all.

If you do it right when you change your oil and oil filter, you change your fuel filter normally.

If your fuel is that bad, install a large water separator pre filter like Racor to remove the contaminants

Yes very much so, I have blanked the egr and also a catch can, my oil is clean at service time at 8k ,,,my motor runs like a clock

I heard somewhere that Ford recommend the injectors to be replaced at 100,000. Is that true ?

@@turbostyleryeah of course. If you took your car to a dealership they would use the injector balance to decide if the injectors are bad.
If you can get a heat gun onto each exhaust port that will accurately isolate differences in performance, a cylinder or cylinders with lower exhaust gas temperatures than others indicate reduced power output.

Why Did you change injectors at 200,000 kl?
preventative maintenance, 200 000 kms is approx lifespan before replacement is advised,
The last decent vehicle Ford supplied in Oz was the FGX. Wouldnt touch a new one. From a guy who wears a Ford hat, has an XB and a Mk1 escort.
I have a MU-X and I have my original fuel filters still in place the car is 2018 model, the problem is Ford .
