Everyone knew that she was Hongli's personal pick to be his primary wife, and she would have been so if it had not been for her Aunt's and thus clan's downfall. The insecure Empress (who knew she was only the second choice forced on him) was already targeting Ruyi with a infertility-causing bracelet, the Dowager Empress initially hated Ruyi because of her blood feud with Ruyi's aunt, Consort Ling because of her jealousy over Ling Yunche, etc. They were already scheming to put a wedge between Ruyi and the Emperor from the very start. Apart from not falling in love with him in the first place, Ruyi would have had a more peaceful life she hadn't agreed to enter his harem or the inner palace at all. He roped her in and then left her for the wolves because power and ego were his only true great loves.

Totally messed up guy. Yes, it all became a power trip and he lost himself. But a great drama.
When he’s little, he used to be an unfavoured son from a low-born biological mother and always be scorned by others in the palace. Only after the Empress Dowager adopted him he begins to be favoured and eventually becomes the Emperor. That’s why he suddenly get mad when Ruyi brought up about his biological mother, he’s ashamed if others get to know about this
The power trip too. Imagine to suddenly have the power above all and all the beautiful women in the harem fight for his attention alone..the ego boost must be too unhealthy

Ruyi doesn’t know how and when to shut up. It was impossible for emperor to carry out his request without him being connected to his birth mother who should stay anonymous because of the late emperor’s one-night stand. Emperor had the good intention to celebrate her birthday in a good way with dinner and a good night with her but Ruyi spoiled it. I do admire Ruyi but she can be tactless and this time she really was. Even suoxin was surprised that Ruyi mentioned this on her birthday. But emperor was also very reactive and got annoyed right away. He didn’t even consider that it was Ruyi’s birthday and maybe he could have said he’d think about it and let the matter go. He’s so hotheaded, gets annoyed so easily. I guess being an emperor and getting whatever he wants made him develop this impatience. If he truly loved Ruyi, he would understand why she brought up this request, thinking that Ruyi is concerned about his birth mother being buried without a title and in an anonymous location thats not even cared for.
Then it happens to her.
But Ruyi did it for him.she used her birthday wish on him. Because Ruyi knew how he deep down wanted to show respect to his birth mother, and then he can Rest In Peace as a son who has been dutiful

@@user-ye9hy3ss6k Wrong. The emperor’s eunuch is Li Yu and he grew up along with Ruyi’s maid Suoxin but couldn’t marry her ofc, she ended up marrying Jiang Yubin, the doctor that helps them. San Bao is Ruyi’s eunuch, he doesn’t have any love interest as far as i’m aware, but he is very capable and as cool as her later maid, Rong Pei.
edit: i forgot to comment on Ling Yunche, the guard (later eunuch) that man only falls for ruyi later in the show and doesn’t appear in the scene (neither does sanbao actually)
