I think he probably pushed a bit harder then usual to get that breath support required to sing with such power snd ended up singing an overtone. As talented as Layne was, I highly doubt he could sing two notes at once properly. Could do everything else

    Layne's voice is unique. He mixed power an his emotions and demons as few singers can do. And he could do it live too, as in Miami 91, Dallas 90, Silver Dollar Saloon 91...For me, it's the last great voice that I heard in rock. Forever missed.

      Rite!? Layne’s voice stretched from the 2nd octave high up into the 5th with seeming ease and endless power. As much a style icon as an influential singer, his voice really deserves it’s own classification separate from any tenor, titled the Layne Staley vocal range.

    Absolutely amazing. Brings goose bumps to the skin. Probably the best male vocalist there is, or was :(. The raw emotion conveyed through his voice alone is what does it, and of course the actual tonal quality. RIP Lane Never forgotten,

    I can't remember where I heard it but someone once said it's amazing how his voice was so powerful yet so vulnerable. The perfect way to describe it. I miss this man a whole lot.

    Just wondering" if this is how he heard & recorded this original? Wow!!!! This is like gold to me..is this him in the studio I mean? Lane was 1 month older then me Lane Aug 1967...Me Sep 1967" Lane in my opinion you are still the best singer I've ever heard..

    This really shows how powerful his vocals was and that range! Easily my favourite singer now hands down. There's no one like him. He'll never be forgotten. RIP Layne Staley.

    I would love to hear Love Hate Love with just vocals. I always thought that song was incredible vocally. What kind of effect does he have going here? Sounds like a little delay and reverb, but can't tell for sure.

    I just got to say I LOVE you young folk that are digging our 90's tracks and legends! You are proof that that era stands the test of time just like the music of the 60's. keep it alive cause these songs came out at a great and fucked up time.
