His notes can't go out of tune even in his dreams....he has put in so much hardwork through years. Since his formative years, he has been working on his singing... It's the magic of practicing Indian classicals with proper dedication, the notes get mixed in your blood...and in case of people like Sonu Nigam sir, Hariharan ji and other classical maestros, it comes naturally to them, it's almost became involuntary...✨

There were 4-5 different songs that he mixed up together in this specific show and also he sang each of those songs in two different modes like sad and happy moods that’s the reason you might feel sudden changes in the tempo and tones.

The music is different in this his performance than original one. He is just playing with another theme.
Sad notes, happy notes, changed not just songs but the feelings of the songs he was singing. Not everyone would understand what he did on the stage. But they get it.

You are right, one needs to have some level of appreciation for MUSIC to like how this sounds.
In this particular video which you have reacted to, he sung 2 songs. He flawlessly has mixed the two, making it look like it was only one song. With kal ho na ho, the way he sung it is very different to the original (in a good way) it almost sounds like he changed the GENRE of each verse. He's amazing.
