    I think they did a great job with this truck. However, Infiniti's luxury image has eroded considerably from the 2010s, and I think it's priced out of where it should be. Companies in this sort of position should be focusing on attainable luxury value. Basically exactly what they pulled off with the first G35 in the 2000s. That car was a huge success in the segment and drove their image and eventually sales of their upmarket cars.

    • @gedaman
      @gedaman 27 дней назад

      Infiniti has lost a lot of ground over the past 10 years or so I agree, but if they priced this new QX80 lower then they would be leaving money on the table. The people who buy these enormous luxury SUVs are accustomed to spending in the six figure range and don’t mind spending what Infiniti, Cadillac, Lincoln, Land Rover, Mercedes-Benz, BMW, Audi, and even what Jeep (Grand Wagoneer) are commanding for their largest SUVs. Infiniti just got out of the premium sports sedan segment with the discontinued Q50. If Hyundai made a big jumbo sized SUV like the Infiniti QX80 they might do okay with a lower priced model. Infiniti needs to get their profits where they can now. This new QX80 is still much less money than a comparably equipped Lincoln Navigator or Cadillac Escalade. I won’t even get into the price differences with the German SUVs.

    I see this more and more on the highway. People think that the DRLs are a substitute for the actual headlights. Problem is when I come up behind them doing 80 in the left lane while the oblivious drivers hog the lane doing 60, I cant see them until the last second because of the headlights are not on, neither are the tail lights.
    DRLs are not headlights people .!!

    • @gedaman
      @gedaman 27 дней назад

      I’ve seen that too often too. Thank goodness new vehicles have rear reflectors on the back otherwise I wouldn’t even see them. I think everyone should drive with automatic headlights turned on if they have them equipped.

    • @bigd7386
      @bigd7386 21 день назад +1

      This is mostly an issue with people driving rentals they are not familiar with. They're not used to auto headlights so when they don't turn off with the car they go and flip the switch to off, but then mistake the DRLs as the headlights when they go to turn them on. Along with all gauges are backlit in day and night mode now, when that used to be a surefire sign of your headlights being on or off (when the gauges were lit or not). I honestly don't know how people think the DRLs are the headlights has the light is so dim. I just got back from vacay and there were many people in rentals driving around like that.

    • @eleanormassaro5195
      @eleanormassaro5195 21 день назад +1

      @ you are absolutely correct! They used to call those instruments that lit up during the day electroluminescent instruments. pretty much every time I drive at night around town I see someone that forgets to turn their lights on. I just was driving home from the store tonight and someone in front of me, in a Mazda no less, Mazda’s pretty much all have automatic light settings, I was driving behind them and you could see the daytime running lights coming from the front but no tail lights!

    • @gedaman
      @gedaman 21 день назад

      @@bigd7386 I don’t think that’s entirely accurate. A lot of morons just turn the switch one notch and assume that’s means the headlights are on when it’s just the daytime running lights. It’s a good thing that there are reflective light strips on the back otherwise you couldn’t see these morons on the highway.

    Calling the engine "GT-R" derived is a bit misleading. Yes, it's the same family of VR series engine but the VR35DDTT engine in this new QX80 is a stroked version of the VR30DDTT also found in the new Z and Infiniti Q50. It's not a smaller version of the VR38DETT. The GT-R's VR38 engine is a closed deck design meanwhile the VR35DDTT and VR30DDTT are both open deck design.

Dealers aren't "dying" to get rid of them- those are their easy volume sellers; thats what the Camry/Civic and Corolla/Accord are. @@amanasd26not everyone cares about a status symbol. People who have money and can actually look at cars objectively will see a nice big luxurious suv and not just think of the badge. Hell, range rovers are the least reliable and overpriced junks but people still buy them.

      @@donn.4766 because Range Rovers are status symbols, you tried to disprove my point by proving my point. Hard to imagine Infiniti commanding this price point. They’ve taken so long to refresh this model that they need to go back to being a value player and I’m not certain this represents a value in the segment. The simple question becomes would your wife prefer a BMW X7 at around 90k or an Infiniti at 100k….

    • @jcdenton8750

      No, because it's not GT-R derived. The VR35 in the QX80 is a stroked version of the VR30 engine found in the new Z or Q50. Both of which are open deck design (weaker) compared to the GT-R's VR38 closed deck design (way stronger).
