      Only admired by true Americans.......BLM says he was a racist regarding a statement made in the sixties, seventies or so.....can't remember what he said, (Google) but honestly it was true but not excepted by the BLM racist. They want to remove his statue and rename the Orange County Airport, including the local democrat government.

Flintlocks - Matchlocks - handcannons. just a flash hole to light. Volcanics to a 4 bore deck mounted gun for sinking boats in India. And the Colt's - 2 I was familiar with - One smooth bore than had so much holster wear - the sides of the barrel were worn down. Finally a case hardened original - blue barrel and gorgeous. 15K was a good sale in 1980. Nice to see that Duke's gun went for a fitting sum!

    I loved John Wayne too...but not 450,000 dollars worth. I could buy a lot of motorcycle a for that.

    An iconic pistol used in several classic films by one of the greatest Hollywood actors of the 20th century. I'd say the buyer got a great deal on it. Especially when you see the prices realized on comic books, baseball cards, and other items that are not unique. I just watched True Grit the other night and Wayne fires the Colt several times.

      If you've ever noticed the rifle round in the middle loop of his gunbelt,it was to separate live rounds from dummy rounds. JW liked to shoot at rabbits while on location. Don't know if he ever killed, or even hit any of them,though.

      @@johnhughes9978 Nope. Live rounds are not allowed on a movie set. As a former prop man, Wayne would understand and follow that rule.

      I'm sure there are a ton of explanations for that rifle round (probably 45-70) but I read that it was in the 13th loop (right or left, idk) 13 being the letter "M", presumably for Morrison. I too use a 45-70 in the middle loop but to differentiate my 44 specials from my 44 magnums. And I get asked why all the time at the range.

    I actually saw this pistol at a prominent attorneys office here in Dallas in the 80's. It was in a glass presentation case from Patrick Wayne. I just stared in awe at at that glass case. Thanks for the memories.

    Wow, I can't believe they didn't mention the caliber! I heard the Duke had his Colt SSA's chambered in 44/40? He preferred the 44/40 over the 45 lc and I can see why from what I read and from videos on the two chamberings the 44/40 is a better round. Anyway, what a bummer they didn't mention the caliber!

    • @jerrynorton1080
      @jerrynorton1080 2 года назад

      44-40 is only "a better round" because they dident make long guns in 45 long colt, and you only needed to source one caliber of ammo to feed your winchester and your colt, the other choices were 38-40, and 32-20 as a pistol/rifle combo. The (non-original) barrel on that gun, says 44 on it, theres been some research on it, and a very few magazine articles. The blanks were the "5-in-one" type, they look like a 38-40 and could be fired in 38-40 pistol, 38-40 rifle, 44-40 pistol, and rifle, and colt's 45 long pistol. Pistol was and still is used to mean handgun, be it singleshot, double-barrel pepperbox, revolver, or "automatic".
