Teddy Roosevelt's Silver Colt Brings... !!!!!

- Опубликовано: 4 июл 2024
- The Colt Single Action Army revolver was ordered as a gift for Theodore Roosevelt’s 54th birthday. Factory engraved and silver plated, it was shipped four days before his birthday, just over a week prior to the election of 1912, and ten days prior to his assassination attempt in Milwaukee, WI.
Dripping with history and the factory engraving of master Cuno Helfricht, this Colt Single Action Army ranks (at time of auction) as the third highest firearm ever offered by Rock Island Auction Company.

Amazing price for an amazing revolver owned by an amazing man !
That's a lot of money for a gun that will never be used! Congratulations to whomever made that purchase! Is a nice piece of history!
I'm not saying I'd rather have that gun over a REALLY nice house, all I'm saying is - But that gun is true to it's opening introduction
I'm so thankful that this beautiful and historic firearm will be preserved and well cared for. God bless America and the Roosevelt family. 🇺🇸
there was a guy that shot Theodore Roosevelt before a speech. Theodore Roosevelt was injured because of this and refused to go to the dr. He proceeded to give the speech and made fun of the would be assassin during the speech.
IMHO, I believe this firearm should be a museum piece, for all people to appreciate .
museum were allowed to bid
I wish my life was at the point where I could buy such an item.
What a great history piece, and a great man.
Unbelievable !!!
Fantastic.
It’s a good investment in my opinion. It’s a piece of history and beautiful. One of a kind and highly documented. Very cool.
TR was a Great President, and carried/was presented, an awesome piece ! Thinking about bringing RIA my very rare COLT Super .38 #XXX50, for auction. They do great work.
Outstanding!
I wish you would show what these high profile guns sell for more often
This Colt revolver is similar to General Patton's Colt .45 revolver however General Patton's revolver has an eagle carved in the grip instead of a bull or a steer. Colt used to silver plate as well as nickel plate. I had a S&W number 2 revolver in silver plate when I was younger. Silver plate looks more mellow than nickel but one has to use a quality silver polish to keep it looking good. This silver plate does look very good. It sold for $1,275,000.00. I can carve and machine ivory grips. I made them for John Vernon Martz the Luger maker from Lincoln, CA back in the 1970s and 1980s and have done some industrial engraving throughout the years. I could learn to duplicate this revolver for alot less than the sold price.
If you do, keep us posted. We'd love to see the results!
WOW....Thanks...!!!
I can't imagine what it feels like to ready to bid over a million bucks for anything. I would have bought land.
WHoever spent this much ona gun already has plenty of land, and plenty of everything else too.
you buy stuff like this when you already have everything else lol. that guy buying more land would be like me buying a part of the ocean it aint gonna benefit me in any way. bu8t a cool one of a lifetime revolver owned by a president. definite cop
You can't sit in your chair and hold that land in your hands
That was cool!
"immortalized in granite for eternity" i think you overestimate the capability of granite.
He also overestimated the capability of extreme leftists who want it all torn down.
Hold on, my credit card is around here somewhere...
That buyer's premium is gonna hurt though.
*Only* 270000.
Nah, it’s only around 191,000. You should have bid!
Awesome
Wow! 1 second your $500k looks like it will do the trick and 30 seconds later it's at $1 million and going up!
Of all the pistols I've saw here,I'd rather have this one than all of them,Roosevelt was a larger than life individual.
👌watched this online...
Holy moley!
It sure was buddy ..it sure was.
Helluva gun, helluva piece of American history!
Great deal, historical gun of the greatest president, cheap at double that price
TR was a ‘progressive’ who expanded the federal government, chipped away at federalism, and paved the way (set precedent) for two presidents who did immeasurable damage to our constitutional order: Woodrow Wilson and Franklin Roosevelt. He was historically significant, he manufactured his image (which all politicians do today) - he was a city slicker dandy, not a rough westerner when born - but he was then tenacious about being true to the image he created. He was courageous, heroic, and demonstrated a man could be both strong, but also compassionate (saving the bear cub). He understood we were destined to be a major world power based on our navy, and he did some good things in preparing us for that role. His politics though were detrimental to our republic. He wasn’t bad in the sense of a Buchanan who did nothing to avoid war and disunion; or incompetent like Carter and Obama; or malevolently partisan like Jackson, Nixon, and Obama, but his expansion of federal power marked a turning point away from adherence to constitutional limitations on government.
Amazing... in another 100 years, rest assured THAT piece will still be functioning usefully and nobody will ever see such value in anything plastic in a minor caliber.
I highly doubt that but keep telling yourself that
@@jakegrube9477 he has a point there are guns that are 200+ years old and technically could still fire. While after 50-200 years could you say the same about the polymer guns?
@@curiousentertainment3008 eh depending on the polymer used i could see a semi auto pistol easily lasting that long
Someone send this to gun Jesus.
Bully for the buyer.
Nice to have that kind of 'disposable' cash...
This piece is really more of an investment than an expenditure.
@@dafunkmonster its probably not going up from 1.275 million
oh my...
I'd rather own a dozen transferable machineguns and a tank at the same price but damn that is one hell of a piece of history.
I would prefer buying something that I could use. This gun although a great buy, will never be shot
Take it out of petty cash honey! Crazy!
"Bully" for the buyer!!
Terrierman Teddy ❤
THATS BULLY!
Who won it? Private citizen?
Holy makrel!!!!!//Lars
Very beautiful gun, but hardly historic. Did they get the box?
@1.275 MM the gun control crowd just gasped >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
A definite side perk.
Did a family member own it
Gun NUTS
I bet old teddy is laughing his ass off
Wow 1.275 million for a gun that cost Teddy Rosevelt less than $50 when he bought it.
But how does it shoot?
Brother, I wish I knew. Though I can tell you how Elvis' revolver shoots! ruclips.net/video/my_Z7BdYAzI/видео.html
I would guess it would be like any other SAA, only terrifying because it’s worth over a million dollars.
@@thatsnotafact7840 what does an Abrams cost?
😯😯😯😯😯😯. All I can say.
Wow , whopper of a sale
This is an amazing auction of an iconic firearm from a historically significant person, but I am dismayed by all the glowing comments about TR. TR was a ‘progressive’ who expanded the federal government, chipped away at federalism, and paved the way (set precedent) for two presidents who did immeasurable damage to our constitutional order: Woodrow Wilson and Franklin Roosevelt.
TR was historically significant, but he manufactured his image (which all politicians do today) - he was a city slicker dandy, not a rough westerner. Still, he did work hard to make his life fit his image. He was courageous, heroic, and demonstrated a man could be both strong, but also compassionate (saving the bear cub). He understood the US was destined to be a major world power, as a sea power, and so he expanded our navy, preparing us for that role. His politics though were detrimental to our republic. He wasn’t bad in the sense of a Buchanan who did nothing to avoid war and disunion; or incompetent like Carter and Obama; or malevolently partisan and corrupt like Jackson, Nixon, and Obama, but his expansion of federal power marked a turning point away from adherence to the constitutional limitations on government.
TR is “great” in the sense he was significant, not in the sense he was good for our nation. He wasn’t. Like most, he did some good, he also did some bad, and some of the bad could not be clearly seen until decades later.
Just put him in context and ask yourself what he accomplished as president that was better for our country than Washington establishing peaceful transition and refusing power? Perhaps some will ask how TR’s accomplishments compare to Lincoln emancipating slaves and preserving the Union? Kennedy de-escalating the Cuban missile crisis? Jefferson going to war against the Barbary Pirates? Coolidge reducing the size and scope of the federal government? Reagan restoring confidence and pride? Those who like Wilson and FDR can likewise ask what he did to match their “accomplishments.”
People liked TR. He’s an irresistible character with an endearing persona. People still like TR, and that’s fine. Like him for who he was, but please don’t confuse admiration for his image with him having accomplished fantastically good things as president.
Read David McCullough's book..."Mornings on Horseback"
You forget not everyone here i conservative
@@cappystrano1 well your condemnation of him on the basis of the expansion of the federal government displays a very narrow mindset
Who ever bought this, can I please have some money?... Money like this would change my life FOREVER!
Pull up your boot straps........
Looks kind of flashy for TR
You should see his Winchester 1876!
TR was all about flash. He was very flamboyant and considered a “dandy” when he first went to Albany. His “rough westerner” image was a complete fiction he created, although he worked hard to live up to it and make it true.
@@RockIslandAuctionCompany would weapons like this revolver and that rifle be intended for use or more ornamental purposes? I would worry about damaging it
@@TXGRunner Tell that to the Cubans on San Juan Hill ~
The photo of TR in his buckskins early in the video (about 1:10) The buckskins were made for him by his NY tailor, and the knife you see on his right side was customized for him by Tiffany.

Where on earth do they get these guns? They have guns from every famous or infamous person in the old west. Next question is who the hell can afford them? And those who do buy them, don't just have one, they have many. Millions or maybe billions of dollars worth. The sad part is that the average guy, who would REALLY, REALLY like to have just one collectible piece will never have the chance to own one.
You don't need to collect guns from ex presidents to be a collector dude. Lots of people collect ww2 surplus for example and those guns still hold historical significance
@@M8Military That's true. I have a fairly decent collection of old Winchester lever actions. But I'm in the 2 to 5 thousand dollar bracket as far as buying one goes. I'd like to have a nice original peacemaker or a 45/90 Winchester but I can't afford the 20 to 50 thousand dollar price tag for one without any provenance, let alone one in the 100's of thousands to millions. Merely just dreaming. I don't really care who buys what, it's just a matter of curiosity.
Sold to a weapon company.
Is it true the removed his statue in NY around
BLM issues?
Writing this a year later, they just took down the statue in question in front of the museum and was shipped to Medora to be displayed at his Presidential Library. The man filled the place with taxidermied diorama's from around the world to educate anyone who visited about far away lands. Now he's vilified as racist and Woke NY is doing everything they can to erase his existence.
Nice . But as a museum or collector that has disposable income , I hope it was an American buyer .
