Great video, and love the history lesson, but big gaps in the story that I’d love to have filled. The revolver was shipped July 4th 1879 only 6 years after Covey was born. Was he the original owner at 6??? If not then there has to be a story about how he came by the revolver, an Indian agent didn’t earn very much money and that is an extravagance that would stand out in his line of work. Was it a gift from one of the tribes of Indians he oversaw as agent? Thanks again for another great post!

I heard you say colt 45 in the video but since this says frontier six shooter would that make it 44-40 or another caliber? Just curious, with my limited knowledge on colt single action’s I always thought only 44-40’s were marked frontier six shooter. Thanks. Outstanding video I own a few Colts myself but all standard models, I wish I could afford a piece of history like this to preserve for the next care taker..

You are correct. While SAA revolvers are commonly referred to as a "Colt .45," the subset of Frontier Six-Shooters are chambered in .44-40 Winchester.

If this gun was carried on the dry, dusty plains of the frontier seems like most of the nickel would be worn off.
