Cheers!!
MGS 3 Snake Eater is my favorite in the series.
Metal Gear Solid Twin Snake's
All of them were amazing but I love them all played and beat them all, I hated raiden at first but them you grow to love him
I’ve only played mgs3 and am playing ground zeroes right now
MGS2
Whoever made that game, it’s immediately obvious how much love and respect they had for MGS. Pretty good, indeed!
I agree, they had the utmost respect for the source material, and it shows!
The person you're praising is the creator of the series himself. Kojima wouldn't allow his expertly crafted narrative to be handled by someone else. That's why we see minimal continuity errors across the entire series and all the silly recurring gags.
I knew immediately, if I haven't played it, it had to be on the N-Gage
Yes the graphics really gave it away lol
The team that designed this game should get full recognition from the Metal Gear community, this is SO impressive!! I remember hearing about this, but never got the opportunity of playing it! Great video!!
Couldn't agree more! That's why I wanted to do my part in bringing this game to the attention of as many fans of the series as possible. It's worth it! It would have helped if this game was also ported to a more successful gaming device, like the PSP or the DS...
Utilising unique aspects of the phone's hardware and letting the player take photos of real world things to create new camo patterns is the most Kojima thing ever, and it isn't even made by him! I love it lmao
The developers sure had a love for the series, and it shows!
They later put that feature in MGS: Snake Eater 3D, too.
I actually DID have this game on my phone back in the day! It was a surprisingly complete package for being, you know, what it was.
One of the few you are, I bet it must have felt incredible playing it at the time!
I can't believe I've never heard of this. A story between MGS1 and 2 focusing on Snake and Otacon is a great idea, I would've liked to see that adopted into a full fledged title for a console. The Tanker chapter of MGS2 is easily my favorite of part of that game, and this seems to carry the same vibe. It's a shame this little gem got so overlooked.
I agree, and you can play this thanks to the emulator eka2l1!
Wow, I think I remember when this game was announced back in the day but I never played and never heard anyone talking about it! This is the first time I'm seeing real gameplay of it! Thank you for creating this, great content!!
Hey thank you so much for your lovely comment! I used an emulator of course, since this is no longer purchasable, Eka2l1 is available both for PC and Android and... it works!
@@LucianTheWorldGamer Thank you for your reply! I searched for this emulator and I manage to run the game! Just trying to figure how to make it 60 fps! :)
Wow, i am a hardcore fan of MGS but i've never heard about this game at all... (maybe because i am from europe) i played AC!D on phone but never this one. I think i will have to recover from dust my old phone and play this in a proper 2000+ way ^^. Very well done video btw! keep it up!
I am too and this is the first I'm hearing if it. It's like this game is hidden or something
Same, I was in the US but still a kid
Agreed, I wish this was released on more platforms, like the DS or the PSP. Then it would have had much more success and recognition!
looks as good as the original. rather impressive
I love the 32-bit graphic style!
I wouldn't go that far but it does look good for a mobile game
Looks good, feels tame, plays safe, and it is very very veeery unsatisfying. Played it on a N95
Kinda like a ps1/n64 game, with the models and and it has the plus of bilinear filtering but with very basic audio compared to the ps1 game and the colors look worse, with a lot of banding, the ps1 has very nice colors for Metal Gear and awesome motion blur effects
I would have played the heck out of this on the PSP!
Totally, it's such a missed opportunity not having released this on PSP!
This gives me DS vibes tbh.
@@JuriSinsps1 dood
Awesome find, Lucian! Konami REALLY needs to up its effort for these collections.
Totally, they should also focus on bringing forgotten things as well, not just the usual recycled games, even if they are masterpieces
This blew my mind. Awesome video. Subscribed.
Thank you so much!!
Hoping for a video like this highlighting the two Acid games, feel like they got the card game hook in me when I was younger.
The acid games are pretty interesting, but I think they are known enough, so I wanted to bring you something different, that's my philosophy in a way
lmao great vid and seriously never knew this existed!! but @ 2:40 has me dying in my chair lol, too damn funny!!
Thanks buddy, I'm glad you liked it!
wow I've heard of this game, but didn't realize it's a whole unique story and not just a demake (like Acid Mobile for example)! Very cool, thanks.
No problem, I think it's really worth experiencing it!
awesome video. The game looks really good, love the mgs series.
Thanks a million for your support!!
I am glad you shared this. I think about the game sometimes and there isn't a lot of "reviews" online about it. a "review" is better than a "playthrough" sometimes.
I prefer to do reviews because it is more of a creative thing, and think it suited this game better indeed!
I like this game
It's the one that introduced me to the series
unfortunately it's fun only when you play it for the first time because the story is short the vr missions are few
After that, there's no much you can do in the game
Really?? That's one peculiar way to start the MGS series lol, but you gotta start somewhere, and this is not a bad place after all!
And here I thought me getting into MGS because of Acid 2’s Snake Eater scenes in theater mode was odd.
VR Missions is an expansion
@@shigeroo12Wait, what? I never knew Acid 2 had Snake Eater scenes.
@@shigeroo12 My first experience with Metal Gear was a Spanish version of MGS1 for the PlayStation, I had NO idea what was going on but I loved it.
If MGS2 had come out on the PS1, it would've more or less resemble this. Not quite PS1, but close enough.
It looks cool.
That's totally one way to look at it!
Thanks for the share! didn't know about this little gem!
Thank YOU for passing by! This is truly a hidden gem which more fans should try!
Wow!! I remember this game because another guy in one of my college classes had it on his phone. I never played it and I always thought it was just one of those goofy card-based games or for some reason I think of MGS Acid that was on the PSP. Now you make me want to find a way to emulate and play it.
Maybe your memory served you well, because there are actually two Metal Gear Acid with 2D graphics on mobile! So maybe THAT's what you saw back then. By the way, you can emulate this MGS game with eka2l1
I remember heard of this game back in the day but I always thought that was just a lame port of the tanker episode of MGS2 with extra cutscenes and areas, lol! 😂.
Looks neat, it would be nice to see it again on modern consoles and since there will be a MGS Vol. 2 who knows?, maybe Konami could include this game along with Ghost Babel as an "Extra" games on it, after all they did that with the NES games in Vol. 1 (and those titles wasn't involved Hideo Kojima on it).
One can only hope to see this re-relased!
I dont think so,there was a leak on his own web where people discovered an image with all the games of the collection,Volume 2 is just Peace Walker,4 and 5. I mean it was what i expected from Konami but its really sad that i will probably never have Portable Ops..
@@XXXKaruXXXget a good android and emulate it that’s what I did
Great vid man, keep it up
Thanks a million, your support is much appreciated!
Dope video man! Glad I found it! Keep up the great work, I can tell you put a TON of time into this.
Thank you so much, best compliment ever!!
For sure I would give it a try. And, being just one more Brazilian used to the affordabilities of emulation since ever, I'm happy to know the emulation community looks forward to preserve each and every piece of game in history! Amazing!
You should give it a try for sure, it's doable now thanks to the eka2l1 emulator. Aproveita!
Top quality video! Loved the funny edits. Thank you!
Thanks so much for your lovely comment!!
Ghost Babel is an AMAZING play. Alot of people sleep on the Gameboy game
Indeed, I hope it gets released on the Switch subscription service. I mean they released Castlevania Legends, ffs...
An excellent find and review. Thank you!
No, THANK YOU so much for your lovely comment!
That's wild because I remember trying to find mobile mgs games and never could. I was also 18 when this came out and got away from gaming and into socializing a lot more. I also only had an LG rumor at the time and next to no money.
Well you can play it now, thanks to the eka2l1 emulator!
Can you make s tutorial video
Metal Gear Solid is like the Anti-Gundam and i never realized this
YIKEZ pretty cool tribute, and I did not know about Covert Critter.
Check it out, it's worth it! You can find the link in the description
MG Ghost Babel on GBC was amazing
Yes it was! In a way, it was even more impressive than MGS Mobile
Pretty cool. Thanks for showcasing something I might want to emulate
You should! It's really worth it, thank you for the comment!
Thanks for the video
I remember playing and beating this game back then on my LG Envy 2. Totally forgot about it until I saw this video!
It is time for another playthrough then!
I was such a mgs nerd as a kid, so when i had heard there was a mobile game, you know i had to get it. I remember having quite an enjoyable time with it
Honestly, it's a fully fledged MGS experience, and exclusive to phones... who would have thought that in 2008 this was even possible?? I'm glad you could enjoy it back then
Mobile phones back in the day can play games with that match ps1's graphical capability. This confirms it.
Yes, and that was quite impressive!
Wow! Thank you for this.
I didn’t think there was a MGS game out there that I haven’t played… and you were right. I didn’t even know this existed
And more importantly, it's worth playing it!!
Genuinely surprised by this. I totally didn't know this existed. I might just have to emulate this.
Yes, I highly recommend it! You can use eka2l1 to emulate it
I played it. Also the gameboy game. And even that weird MGS4 iPod touch game. I was a bit obsessed with the franchise and still am. It's my all time favorite.
....And MGS1 is my favorite game.
Oh, I see you are a man of culture
@@LucianTheWorldGamer Indeed. Even had to go out of my way to pay for the MGS4 Touch game with a credit card, before I was old enough to have one myself.
Remember being obsessed with this game on my Alias. It was so fun to play on the side ways screen haha
That QCQ gameplay was intense
Quarters Close Qombat
I bought this game when it came out, but could never really play it because the button to change camouflage was never mapped to any button on my phone. IIRC, a few minutes into the game there's a point where it's mandatory to use the camouflage, but despite me pressing every single button on my phone I couldn't get it to work. It was so disappointing lol
Yes, I bet it must have been a pain to even reach that block road with that keypad...
The resident evil game you mentioned I’m pretty sure it was ported over to iOS around 2010 2012. Also I remember seeing this mgs game in some egm or game pro and completely forgot about it thanks.
You are completely right. RE Degeneration was ported to iOS and showcased slightly improved graphics. But I find it more fascinating on the n-gage store. Thank you for your comment!!
Have you made a Ghost Babel video!? I’d love to see it! I never actually beat that game, had my dad do it for me. I did make it to the end though. That games hard as balls.
Hey not yet, but who knows in the future maybe?? Surely Ghost Babel deserves more recognition!
@@LucianTheWorldGamer
Oh it gets “recognition” all right… just maybe not the kind we want 😕
The visuals in this game are wild. The set pieces are clearly designed after MGS2, using the textures and styles of Big Shell and the Tanker, but they've been crunched into PS1-quality graphics. It turns the game into this weird blend of MGS1 and MGS2 visuals.
YES, and I love it for it!
I find it cool that the Octo Camo was already thought upon so early.
This version of the game with octo camo came out *_after_* mgs4
@@Hack_The_Planet_ I guess I remembered wrong, I had thought MGS4 came out in 2010
@@Ape_Tero technically this game came out a few months before MGS4 in 2008, but this particular version of this game came out on the “N-Gage” a few months AFTER mgs4. This new version included improved gameplay mechanics like the octo camo.
I've always wanted to see more of the mobile MGS
I loved speedrunning this. Such a good game for its platform :)
Totally! I'm glad more people are getting to know this hidden gem!
Man I loved this game it was really impressive for a phone game at the time. I need to go into my storage and see if I can't find my phone with it on there and see if it still works
Do that, to play it on original hardware is a much more immersive experience!
Great video. Subscribed.
Thank you so much!!
@@LucianTheWorldGamerI’m hoping to see more Metal Gear content. This vid was awesome.
@@XxXxTwofirstnames69420xXxXx Thanks a million!! For sure more content will come eventually, as it's really hard to leave this series alone, lol. By the way, I already have plenty of MGS content here on my channel, feel free to check it all out!!
At the beginning I thought it was cancelled edition of MGS 2 for PSX. But really its amazing how they pulled it well to engage into vintage mobile
In a way, it could have been. Maybe it started as an MGS2 version for the Nokia phones...
It's crazy how an old 2008 mobile game clearly has more ambition put into it, than a lot of modern games for PC or console.
100% agreed, managing to create such an ambitious game within such stricts limitations is something to admire!
Yup, I remember playing this on my phone. I actually tried to find a way to play it recently but I couldn't find anything. The game was a few hours long, and I remember it being very impressive for a mobile game.
You are one of the few who could experience it at the time of release!
Also missing was the excellent Ghost Babel, one of the best Gameboy Color exclusives
That is, in a way, even more impressive than Mobile!
wooow it's crazy they had the make your own camo feature before mgs3 (3ds) did
Right?? This game deserves more recognition!
Not only have I played this game multiple times, I still have the phone with this game loaded on it!
You're one of the lucky few!
It's still possible - No held breaths, though - That they are holding this game for a 'Portable' museum in the next Master Collection, which would also include Peace Walker/AC!D 1 & 2 (PSP), and Ghost Babel (GBC).
I would absolutely love it!!
Would be cool if this got included with Master Collection 2 or 3 along with games like Twin Snakes and Portable Ops. Either as extra bonus content in the second one or a full on 'lost collection' as the third one along with any other MG games still stuck on their original hardware after all these years.
100% agreed, hopefully this WILL happen!
WTH maan why is a mobile game from 2008 has better controls than the one we got in MGS AC!D on PSP? This was waay better if they implemented this controls and graphics on AC!D and abolish the card system completely. This would've perfectly fit with the PSP's orientation. Question tho, how were you able to play this game? Did you use an emulator or hardware gameplay? I would love to play this game too. Also great video btw, you just earned another subscriber here keep it up buddy!
Thanks so much buddy, and I agree wholeheartedly! This game was born for the PSP... Anyway, I used emulation for this one, eka2l1 is what you are looking for!
I had this on my razer, i really wanna play it again holy shit, glad to see footage of it again
I'm glad I could trigger some nostalgic memories!
I actually played this on my N95. It was so cool. Really liked it. I got a second battery and charger dock on eBay because by the time I got to work (45 minutes bus ride) my battery was nearly gone
This must have been a total battery sucker!
Can you imagine the amount of abandonware/lost media on the ngage store? Shivers me timbers thinking about
A true headache for preservationists... Such a pity this didn't even receive a physical copy!
i totally owned that on my motorolla razer. You can take pictures to create camo it was short but fun. All a vr mission but you didnt know until the end the last boss wasnt hard at all. I'm 100% sure that I still have that phone and game still on it. Also have guitar hero and bioshock. This game was really fun to play on car rides.
Try give it another spin, it's really a pretty decent game!
@@LucianTheWorldGamer I never said it wasn't I loved it
this 3d version of MGS by ideaworks3d was also ported to Brew for Verizon phones-- not to be confused by other 2d Java releases on other mobile phones.
i played it back in the day on my Razr phone, legit didn't think it was real from the screenshots-- was really cool
Pretty awesome game honestly!
At least you can play as Snake more than in MGS2
Right?? At least it's the whole way through
This was my 2nd MGS experience hahahah the 1st was MGS4, which i was playing at the same period. Ran well in my nokia E51 (had Resident Evil Degeneration too). It was a great game indeed for its purpose!
MGS4 is one heck of a first game to experience the series, it must have been super confusing!
@@LucianTheWorldGamer it was! Even after watching a bunch of youtube videos hahah but was a great experience too, one of my first ps3 title. Memorable!
Damn really cool wished they can update a version of this
Me too, the base of the game is solid and only needs to be improved upon to bring it to more modern standards! Emphasis on "only"....
well this and RE degeneration is what i played on my dad's n73 using ngage plugins and pirated download from internet back in 2009
in fact whenever i play it, it take less than hour to get high score
hell now i kinda nostalgic of those hard time...
Good old times uh??
I've heard of this game but never saw it for real, I'm quite impressed! Would be good to play it on a modern smartphone or PSP
Right?? One can only hope for a modern re-relase...
Hmm, the title certainly has my curiosity and had me wondering what it could be... and I as type this opening comment I see that the summary provides me with the answer. If what's on screen and in the thumbnail is this MGS game, then I'm quite surprised at the level of graphics it has given the system... unless it was released much later than Metal Gear Solid 1 and 2.
0:44 - I do love it when we get little spin-offs like that, having already been hinted as to a past adventure and then finally get to experience it ourselves.
1:18 - 2008 explains the higher graphics... though not quite the choice of system. Funny to hear the N-Gage was still getting some love in 2008 though (and with a presence of a D-pad, I assume it would be the better way to play it).
2:21 - Oh wait, so it didn't actually release on a proper N-Gage. That's a shame; I cannot imagine the form factor of a standard phone would work well for a 3D MGS game.
3:30 - Happy to hear the Snake and Otacon fun interactions are present. So this entry already has something good going for it.
6:20 - Nice example of what you mean on-screen. I would have assumed it was the bullet entering a new room and phasing out, rather than an overall draw distance so the explanation was handy.
7:43 - The whole use the real world aspect sounds like something the 3DS would try to do. Interesting to see such an idea in action in 2008 on mobiles.
9:26 - That one guard can certainly take a punch. I do wonder how you go about attack and moving. With how a standard phone is set up, it seems like would be hard wrapping both hands around the phone and squeezing your thumbs of fingers onto the small keypad space provided to do both with any efficency.
12:33 - Certainly seems an ambitious game given the system it was on.
Thanks for this awesome comment! And yes, this game is digital only for the n-gage service, not the actual taco, which is unfortunate, because at least those games got a physical release and are usually more easily preserved. The controls are not easy on a phone for sure, I almost never used the punches because of that! About the bullet not passing through rooms, that could actually be the case, and the camera thing is just programmed not to be destroyed, ever, for gameplay balancing? Who knows, just nitpicking now ahahah. How I wish this was released on the DS or the PSP...
The recent Metal Gear Collection would have been a nice time to preserve an obscure title such as this. Perhaps there is hope for the second volume though.@@LucianTheWorldGamer
i still have it on that phone. i bought it for 2.99 as well as fight night round 3 for the flip phone
For 2.99 I think did a pretty good deal!
There was another one for ipod touch. It played like an on rails type shooter.
Yeah, Metal Gear Solid Touch. I completely forgot that existed.
Yes, that was far worse! I think it was based on MGS4...
@@LucianTheWorldGamer Yea, it was based on MGS4. It needs to be in the collection too lol. I should still have a cracked copy saved on a hard drive somewhere.
We were all busy playing that bouncy ball game
Yes but this one is lightyears ahead!
I played this on my old Samsung alias! Great game
Really worth it!
I actually did play this game. It was very good for a phone game of its time. There are so many features a lot of them that they talk about that are in this game that only get introduced into the mainline franchise many years down the road.
Ooooh finally someone who did play it! The only way for people to come out and say it out loud is to blatantly state that "You Did NOT Play This!" lol
The game was also distributed in verizon phones back in 08 and was my go to game to play when out
Oh I didn't know that, thank you!!
I really wish some of these older games like acid would be ported to different platforms or even mobile
Me too, they don't deserve to disappear like that!
Holy crap! I've played this but I completely forgot about it until this video. I must have played it with a borrowed ngage or demo kiosk or something because I never owned one.
I'm glad I could bring back some memories, this is a very good game considering the platform!
Man I'm pretty impressive of the power of late 2000's mobile phones especially putting a metal gear game. And I just realized something that the photo camouflage that is in metal gear soild 3D was inspired by the chameleon camouflage in this game. And this is pretty impressive before smartphones become mainstream in the 2010's
Right?! I wish there was some sort of N-Gage collection of any kind...
I in fact played it, and I played it on the phone that should not have supported it - it was Nokia 5700. There were ways to jailbreak your Nokia Symbian smartphone to support N-Gage 2.0 and install custom games. The game was not one of the better ones for the platform, but it was still pretty impressive.
The only way to find people who actually played this, is to write "you did NOT play it" in the thumbnail lol
@@LucianTheWorldGamer yeah, hah. I get the hassle :)
I would love to play this game either remade for a touch screen phone or remake for consoles
100% agree, this deserves to be played by every fan!
I had this on my LG "Voyager". It was crap to control, but super impressive to just look at.
I agree, if you emulate it, it should feel much better!
@LucianTheWorldGamer I never even thought to look for a way to emulate old brew games. Do you have a emulator name I should search for?
@@ReasonBeing25sure, you can look for eka2l1
i had this on my old phone when i lived in havasu . been trying to figure out some way i could aquire this game as a emulation to play it again
You can use the emulator eka2l1 to relive those memories!
@@LucianTheWorldGamer lol I looked into it after your video. I been trying to get it to operate on my phone now for hours now . I know I'll get it setup on pc ez but I have now n-gaged into a endless battle of getting it to work mobile wise and I won't stop till I do hahaha
If you don't mind me asking, how did you do the recording for this? I thought emulation was out of the question as N-Gage 2.0 games were encrypted in a weird way that hadn't been cracked yet.
Hi, I'm glad to report that thanks to eka2l1 emulation for 2.0 is now a thing, and this is fully playable!
I always wanted that phone. Literally just for that game
You can play it through the emulator eka2l1!
Definitely had this mobile game on my Samsung and the MGS4 for iPhone.
But this in my opinion is much better than MGS4 on iPhone!
@@LucianTheWorldGamer oh yes without a doubt
This is unreal. I know i did play metal gear mobile but for some reason it's so different from what i remember. What i played was entirely mission based all taking place in only one room and no codec calls. Perhaps there are two versions of this game
Wow, that would be interesting! Is it also called Metal Gear Solid Mobile??
@@LucianTheWorldGamer Yes. It even has the exact same title screen. It was on Java or J2me i dont really remember that much😅
I remember playing this for like 20 minutes while waiting for a movie to start. Looking back, it was pretty impressive what a pre-smart phone game could do, especially since most mobile games these days are garbage.
100% agreed, this showed much more ambition than anything released today
I remember this game but I hate I couldn’t get it bc I didn’t have a phone at the time
Now you can!
I actually had this game! I had this one, the Kingdom Hearts mobile, and the Dirge of Cerberus Lost Episode. I wanted the Musashi Mobile Samurai but I found out the hard way of how these old games used mobile data, back when that shit was expensive, and so my dad banned me from getting it
Wow, pretty awesome stuff you got to play!!
Funnily enough, I actually did. I briefly played it on my dad's phone (he worked for Nokia at the time)
I'm glad you did, this was an awesome game
This is some serious @StopSkeletonsFromFighting type content.
Man that's some serious compliment, honestly. thanks a million!
I remember playing this on my Nokia but it was only a demo😢
Well, at least you could experience part of it when it came out!
N-Gage...most ppl have never heard of such things from my elaborate childhood
N-gage was way ahead of its time for certain things!
I remember taking a picture of my cat for a camo pattern
That's pretty smart. Some cats really have camos...
I completely forgot about the N-Gage. I never knew anyone that had one.
Me too, but I spotted it sometimes on some local gaming stores. That was weird stuff
Joke's on you. Had it and played it. I may still have my N-Gage in my old cell phone drawer with it on there too. Played it while waiting for the midnight release of MGS4... I also picked up DBZ Burst Limit that night. Back when Gamestop was still doing that stuff, and midnight physical release events were still a thing. Arguing in the camp-out line about how we knew there was no way they were going to kill Snake off, and since nanomachines do literally everything in that universe, like make Vamp neigh on immortal, nanomachines would be used to reverse the aging thing..
Now, had you said Metal Gear Solid Touch, you would have had me.
Except MGS Touch is much more well known. MGS Mobile not really! You were one of the few who actually played it
