    “The reason that the rich were so rich, Vimes reasoned, was because they managed to spend less money."
    "Take boots, for example. He earned $38 a month plus allowances. A really good pair of leather boots cost $50. But an affordable pair of boots, which were sort of OK for a season or two and then leaked like hell when the cardboard gave out, cost about $10.
    "Those were the kind of boots Vimes always bought, and wore until the soles were so thin that he could tell where he was in Ankh-Morpork on a foggy night by the feel of the cobbles.
    "But the thing was that good boots lasted for years and years. A man who could afford $50 had a pair of boots that'd still be keeping his feet dry in 10 years' time, while the poor man who could only afford cheap boots would have spent a hundred dollars on boots in the same time and would still have wet feet."
    This was Capt. Samuel Vimes' boots theory of socioeconomic unfairness.

      You’ve come to the right place for 1 single pair of good boots. I also think people buy cheap boots because they WANT to get a new pair each year to satisfy new colors, trends , taste. Fewer people can commit to anything for multiple years, even something as basic as a pair of boots. Thanks for watching.

    Many people like to brush them from time to time to wake up the nap that has become compressed over time, and looks shiny.
    If you live in an area prone to winter snow, then you definitely want to winterize your boots. Mink oil will darken them. Wolverine 1000 Mile leather conditioner grease will not.
    After you brush and oil them, allow at least 24 hours for the oil to absorb. Then, use a water-proofing spray to finish them.
    Be sure to always clean off any accumulated salt. The top choice is a wire brush, which is good, but can be harsh on stitching.
    I prefer to use a hog hair bristle brush because it doesn’t damage stitching. Make sure to keep the welt stitching clean of salt.

    I love these IR with the rough out leather. I have a pair also & treated mine with a homemade balm thats mostly tallow, a bit of lard & a bit of bees wax along with a few drops of tea tree oil as an antibacterial. I applied on the “inside” & then heated them up with a hairdryer to soak it in. It ddint change the colour much at all. Theyre still going strong many years later.

    These boots are not real winter boots. More 3 season. When real winter comes with lots of snow and minus 20 degrees centigrade you need extra wool insole and double thick socks so you really need space there and when all that gear is out during summer they would be loose.

    Saphire renovator comes in a aerosol spray can. It's meant to put oils back into suede and rough out leathers without gumming up the nap with waxes. I'd spray that on the outside. For the inside to keep the footbed hydrated I would get some cobblers choice shoe oil. All natural oils and made in America. For the waterproofer use anything you want. I use cobbler's choice on all of my leather shoes for the inside, Even my dress shoes.

    Love the channel and my Iron Rangers. I’ve seen recommendations for shoe trees and whether you need them or not. Shoe trees no, BOOT TREES YES, the boot trees have a 6” ankle as well that will help with shaping and extracting the sweat and odor from the leather. Cedar boot/shoe trees are primarily needed to extract out the sweat that has been absorbed by the leather as you’ve worn them. The sweat salt really breaks down the leather so getting boot trees in for the night after you’ve worn your boots is very important. For IR boots, they also help with not having the toes curl up to look like clown boots. I get my boot trees from Woodlore, pricy, yes, but they’ll last forever and triple the life of your boots. Also, if you want to expand your Redwing collection, I’d check out Sierra, I’ve bought 3 pair of IRs from there for $249 each, yep, they’re factory seconds but I’ve yet to find the defect in any of them. I recently got the Muleskinners and they’re being shipped now. Anyway, you really need boot trees, ESPECIALLY if you wear them frequently. Again, love the channel and updates.

    • @ParsonBrown78
      @ParsonBrown78 2 года назад +1

      @@hell0all I would definitely recommend shoe trees. The cedar helps absorb the moisture your feet leaves behind in the boot. The salesman at the Redwing store I got mine from said that a boot dryer is ok, but only sparingly since it can dry the leather out.

    My suggestion is wearing as much as possible like a daily thing only boot you should wear on a shoe you should wear. Nobody wants to see or hear somebody that wears them casually. I wear my boots everyday rain shine heat cold doesn't matter. That's what they're made for to wear not the store. You ever heard of leather rot

    The toebox definitely changes over time. My 9014's toebox has slowly flattened over time, as the boots have broken in.
    Roughout care oh boy (I love my roughouts)! Here we go:
    Before winter I recommend that you prep your boots, with a thorough brushing and cleaning. Now for cleaning Roughout leathers, I recommend that you use Saphir Medaille D’or Omni’Nettoyant Cleaner Neutral, then after they have dried follow up with Saphir's Renovateur Suede Spray in neutral for conditioning and lastly finish with a leather protector.
    Saphir makes a great leather protector for suede and roughout leathers, it is called "Super Invulner". Now be careful, when buying the conditioning spray and the leather protector, because Saphir makes them in a neutral version, and in versions with colour pigment added - for Hawthorne Muleskinner, you got to go with the neutral version.

    Have you been using shoe trees in them? Just curious. It kind of looks like the answer is no.
    Also, I personally own two pairs of boots that I rotate days, helps the boots to rest and dry out.

    • @hell0all
      @hell0all  Год назад

      I use boot trees when a few days go between wears, which is seldom at this point. I see your logic in two pairs but i think i’ll just wear these into the ground as honestly as possible. Thanks for watching!
