I’m binge watching your old videos from Seattle, where we have similar weather. I continue to be impressed with your work ethic and knowledge of construction!
It sure it taking shape. Ive been binge watching your channel since I discovered it a few days ago. Its almost like art work what you are creating for a living structure.
awsome seeing the progression, im in s.wales and we have had 2 days of sun this year so far, rain rain rain, good job you done a good job on your roof mate, cant wait to see it finished.
+J DeWitt DIY we can't wait to. we want to move. we are back in our little flat near Heathrow airport and missing the quiet already. but we are going back soon for a week to get some more work done :)
Your channel was recommended to me by one of your subs. I showed it to my husband and we started watching this build from the beginning, it's wonderful! My ancestors have been traced all the way back to Wales. Beautiful land!
First, I'd like to say that I'm glad to see your girlfriend (sorry, but I didn't catch her name) is doing much better. Welcome back and thanks for the upload. All of your hard work is paying off and it's looking great. Nice job with the roof and stone work. You're making great progress.
glad i stumbled your way Kris, just sub'd.. i was looking for some ideas before i start a my own little shelter proj, for the first time.. or at least start sketching ideas out. i have some raw materials, and a little bit of land to work with. though, the land is laid out a little awkwardly, with a big hillside being prominent. still, i figure there must be some sort of design benefit that can be utilized. sry, i'm getting passionate thinking about it all now. thanks for sharing, i'll be back to absorb more
I like the Lake. Some people would call it a pond. In the UK that's Lake sized. With all those Tadpoles maybe you could start farming Toads as a food source and export them to France for an income, lol.
Hey mate good to see you back :D I'm from Australia and not sure what the freshwater fish are like there but It would be awesome if you add some fish to the lake that would be good for fishing like maybe a trout or something
+Jahmai Namok once i have the levels of the water sorted and the banks the right hight. i will introduce lots more weed and once it has had a bit of time to mature i will be putting in some trout from a local fish farm.
So how many acres did you actual purchase and at what price per acre in that part of the country? Ive been looking to do the same thing but woodland seems really expensive. Any info would be great, Thanks
we have 18 acres, 11 of pasture and about 7 of woodland, we paid £122,000 for it and there were two other people trying to buy it at that price as well, but because we had cash and didn't need a mortgage we managed to get it, £122,000 is a huge amount of money, but land in wales is some of the most expensive in the uk. i have no idea why this is but it is. you can expect to pay anywhere from 4000-10,000 an acre depending on the land. i think what we payed works out about 6000 per acres. basically every penny i had in the world went on this bit of land. the only reason we had to spend so much was because in wales there are planning policys for building like this. its unfair land should be available to all people but that isn't the world we live in. i hope that helps.
I may have missed it...just stumbled upon your channel. It’s awesome. Love the house! Question-why didn’t you do a more traditional log home type of stacked wood? Was it just the shape you were going for or is this shorter stack better?
What is the lowest temp you get to there? Wondering how insulated the home is. I know a couple that just bought three acres here in Utah, USA and want to build an alternative type home. But we do get some cold winters, maybe down to 10 f sometimes.
Kris do you have a drone if so it would be fantastic to take a look at the above view of where every unit is cause everything at moment seems far apart. Eg your cabin seems far from your shower n composs toleit n I'm sure it will not be as if your busting for a poo poo!! You don't want to travel half a mile to get to bog!
welcome back Kris... I think were due few good weeks of weather now, so fingers crossed you can get some further progress on your round house. Whats your first impression on the Splitting maul. I have a Hultafors splitting maul which I love. Bit modification to the sharpened edge and shes razor shap now. I couldnt justified paying the extra money for the Gransfor, there great axes.... but over priced. Lastly. whats that growing of the end your face haha
+Padraig Mc carthy i read loads of revues about what maul to get. from what i read the gb maul was the way to go. so i just bit the bullet i got one. the quality of it is really nice, it even has a grooves in the handle at the bottom for grip. i have not done a large amount of splitting so i can't really compare it to anything. but i can see a well made tool when i hold one and this is a very well made tool. HAHA That would be my poor attempt at growing some manly facial hair. (girlfriends request) it only grows on my chin the rest is just bum fluff.
OK Chris I get the sawdust insulation idea but if water gets in it won't be good. I've just noticed also that your wood cob is planted beyond the post perimeter line ???? Another departure from the usual roundhouse design. You've increased the circumference of the roundhouse but increased the need for more cob wood too. 18 inches of cob wood is very insulating Chris. That's the whole point. But if you felt the need for more then grass straw bale would have been brilliant and easier to fix for water penetration than your sawdust idea.
ugly siding and shit insulation on an existing house. The idea. Go right over top of what is already there with a vapor barrier. on the exterior of the old wall, tack down some 1/2" sheets of styrofoam. throw down two courses of 80-lb bags of concrete. Right off the top of the bags, start cord-wooding it all the way up. tack in some masonry achors as the wall goes up. I'm wanting to mod and older home by using cordwood and exulation. So um. will it work?
I watched designated survivor day and 🌃. As when I was a nurse at time couldn't make time for anything. Awaiting ops at min..........thanks Covid 2020..💗💜💛
dude, I've been binge watching your older videos while I waited for new ones... is there anything you can't do? you're a regular jimmy diresta ain't ya... well done and thanks

Thanks God, you did it! That was very close on the foundation. You did very well!
Glad to see you both back! I just broke three toes a few days ago so I can certainly empathize!
awsome seeing the progression, im in s.wales and we have had 2 days of sun this year so far, rain rain rain, good job you done a good job on your roof mate, cant wait to see it finished.
+Jamie Phillips i think we got the only two days sun this year, so we got lucky, glad you liked the vid.

+Weston of Mass Destruction thank you very much we appreciate it.
I have that same brace!!!
Did you create that lake from scratch ? What a fantastic project!! so good for wildlife
We would call that a dam in Aus. Love your work.
Time to start stocking that lake with some fish. Another way to healthily feed the family.

What kind of Mortor Mix / Concrete did you use?
Unique design, and very nice.
Evidently he don't want to share

I found it interesting that you did the cord wood walls on the outside of the framework. Is that normal?
That looks nice
Do you treat the wood with anything to keep termites from destroying it?
How do you lan to "mow the roof" grass? goats, a lawn mower?
Lookin good
I didn't get if you're using dried cordwood or freshly felled trees.I suppose you can use green wood like bodgers do.
Hey there,
Just curious, how long will the wood in the walls last? Is it treated in any way or just natural?
not treated but we used durable wood. house have been standing for 100 years plus with walls like this.
So how many acres did you actual purchase and at what price per acre in that part of the country? Ive been looking to do the same thing but woodland seems really expensive. Any info would be great, Thanks

What is the mortar please
That is the most labor intensive house i have ever seen built.
You haven't seen a cob house then!
Nice build, do you have to let your logs dry before you use them or can you use them for your build immediately after debarking
Kris do you have a drone if so it would be fantastic to take a look at the above view of where every unit is cause everything at moment seems far apart. Your cottage/Yurt/cabin is starting to really shape up!😀
Your property is very beautiful!Goose for Thanksgiving/Christmas?
What's the mixture that holds the logs together? recipe?
did you create the lake?
travis jones yeah he created the lake after the trees and the animals.
I'm thinking about doing this but I'm scared of termites, any thoughts?
How in the world did she do that? I hope that she feels better very soon.
welcome back Kris... I think were due few good weeks of weather now, so fingers crossed you can get some further progress on your round house.

How did you make your clay?
so whats the deal with the lake? he's created it from nothing?
OK Chris I get the sawdust insulation idea but if water gets in it won't be good. I've just noticed also that your wood cob is planted beyond the post perimeter line ???? Another departure from the usual roundhouse design.
