    Type 1 diabetes is an autoimmune condition that requires careful management of blood sugar levels. Most of us have explored different types of diets to lower our carbohydrate intake, but what if there was a way to improve insulin sensitivity and overall health without relying on strict carbohydrate restriction? A groundbreaking new study suggests that a low-fat, plant-based diet may hold the answer. The randomized clinical trial compared the effects of a vegan diet to a conventional diabetes diet, yielding some surprising results. Could this plant-based approach revolutionize the way we think about type 1 diabetes management? Discover the key findings and the science behind this innovative study.

    I am T1D. But intitally (~2019 when I was diagnosed, I was diagnosed as T2D, just based on doctor's clinical examination and no tests were done to verify) and in an attempt to reverse my diabetes (thinking it was T2D), I personally been on STRICT Whole Food plat based diet for ~6 months+ and then slowly came of it. Back then I could eat any tree on the street :), thats how far I went. Evenn my skin color changed then. I am still plant based mostly with a few exceptions, but not whole food any more. Maintaining a healthy Hba1c of 5.7 for more than a couple of years now.

    I have been type 1 diabetic over 17 years, my HB1AC has always been awful and control overall bad. I have been vegan for 3 years and my HB1AC is now amazing, i need less insulin with food, as soon as i went vegan i noticed the insulin sensitivity within days. My results have been so good my diabetic nurses have said what i am doing is almost miraculous. (Ofcourse due to stress and hormones i do get those occasional spikes that are hard to bring down) And the omnipod and Libre have helped so much too. What i need to work on is really cutting down on fats and only eating more 'good' fats and more wholefoods all together so i can really see amazing results.

    Hi Cyrus, is the 30g fat intake also limit for someone who does bodybuilding and eats 3500+ calories? My total fat intake was previously 40g, but after watching your video I lowered it to about 30g level, but could 30g be too low for someone who needs way more calories than the average person?

      She is right. He recommends 15% of your intake be from fat, so 3500x.15= 525 calories. 525/9= 58.333 grams of fat. You can eat almost 60 grams of fat. Being a bodybuilder, you will have more trouble eating too much protein for this low fat, moderate protein diet.

    There’s one problem with the study and this video - when you restrict a percentage of your fat calories by definition you are tracking calories. It’s very tricky to calculate this type of diet. I wish they’d just provide a fat gram allowance. And people need to be told over and over not to restrict their calories.

    • @adim00lah
      @adim00lah 8 дней назад +3

      It's because animal protein itself has a high insulin index. Yes, meat has a very low glycemic index but it does have a very high insulin index.
      Look up this video: Paleo diet may negate benefits of exercise
      So regardless if the meat is lean meat like fish, it still have a fairly high insulin index. Lean meat is better than fatty meat though.
      When the meat is high in saturated fat, it adds a second problem of lipotoxicity which can raise blood sugar as well, for information on this look up the video: Lipotoxicity how saturated fat raises blood sugar.

      @@suzyn9119 Perhaps. But for many of my clients that adore steaks and burgers it would be a diet lacking in joy too...and I put the health benefits of joy at the very top. Partially plant based many can do, totally plant based would take away the will to live for many I know. Hence- I'd like to see more studies that show the health benefits of an overall balanced diet that is lower in fat and protein and processed junk, higher in plant based but not vegan. Some of the unhealthiest clients I've worked with were vegans- some can thrive on it, others are a hot mess.

    First of all, insulin sensitivity is the opposite of insulin resistance. We have a standardized test for measuring insulin resistance, hence we have a standardized method for determining insulin sensitivity. What you were measuring in this study has very little to do with insulin sensitivity, at best it can be considered a proxy. What was measured instead of insulin resistance was the insulin to carb ratio.
    Then you kind of admit that low carb diets could have similar results, but claim that it's a dangerous diet, referring to a couple of studies, without going into the details. Those studies are about lipid/heparin infused free fatty acids, not about ingested fats.
    As you state, by far most of the reduction in insulin dose is achieved by weight loss.
    There are a couple of reasons why the insulin to carb ratio is not directly related to insulin sensitivity. A first reason is that a whole food plant-based diet is hard to digest. You might eat a lot of carbs, but your body won't absorb all the carbs and nutrients. Then there is the little fact that protein and fat also require insulin to be processed. By using carbs only for your ratio, a more carb-rich diet cannot be compared to a less carb-rich diet. If I ate a low carb diet of only 10 g of carbs a day, needing 30 units of insulin, my insulin to carb ratio goes through the roof compared to someone eating 200 g of carbs a diet and using the same amount of insulin. The whole ratio is just useless.
    The study states that the portion-controlled group lost 4.3 kg of weight with a p value of

    weird i eat carbs sugar goes up I eat meat only sugar goes down. carnivore works and I do not even have to count calories I am not hungry anymore even something as simple as carrots make me crave more food. Vegan is fine if you want to do it. But using a high carb diet to fix carb intolerance just seems oxymoronic to me. maybe in some people it works I know for me it sure does not.

    • @spiderqueen601
      @spiderqueen601 8 дней назад +12

      Fat causes carbohydrate intolerance. When you eat carb-free you’re not “fixing” carb intolerance you’re just avoiding the problem. By reducing fat you correct the source of the carbohydrate intolerance.

      @spiderqueen601 8 дней назад +8
