- In this episode, we visit the Historic Village of Herberton, an open-air museum in Herberton, Queensland. The Village is located on a 16-acre site and comprises over 50 historically restored period buildings dating back to the 1860s, set out like a tin mining town. It is the largest private collection of its type in Queensland, and we were captivated by its charm! You name it, there is a collection of it here - cars, machinery, radios, and even some terrifying old children’s toys! It was a fascinating place, and we quickly lost a day wandering around the grounds. It also makes for an excellent home-schooling activity, providing insights into the history of the region and broader 19th-century living. Enjoy!
So cool. Thanks for sharing. Everything was once invented, crafted, worked for, paid for and proudly owned by someone who lived before us. Each generation thinks they are more clever than the previous but not so, just building on the technology and skills of the past.
@Saarvl-sl5zz 100%! I love the phrase, "we are all standing on the shoulders of giants." So much is taken for granted these days. It is really good to stop and appreciate the hard work and sacrifice so many made before us. 😀😀
Between the morphine and the dolls, no doubt that generation of kids grew up completely well-adjusted functioning members of society 😂 I'd be a pretty rubbish engineer if I wasn't impressed by that collection! We often forget that each one of what we now see as a relic of another time, was once a proudly made and owned piece of the latest technology. You are spot on about not appreciating what they represent. Just wow, what an amazing place! It'll be the three-day pass for us for sure. On our bookshelf at home lives a 'Blakie's Famous Books' edition of The Coral Island, given to me when I was very young girl and re-read many times. Just the bookshelves alone would keep me occupied for hours. Herberton is on our must-see list now. Thanks for another great video.
Hopefully you've adjusted to the home climate a little by now. Off to F&C night by the bay for us. Stay warm and well.
@contributor7219 yup, there was so much more that I did not show on the video. We spent a good eight hours there, so much interesting stuff, absolutely a one of a kind in Australia and I'm sure you will really enjoy it! As for the cold, we are not adjusting at all!! It's windy and freezing! I think we need to harden up a little... 😀😀😀
Oh how times have changed…..not all for the better mind you. That looked like heaps of fun 😊
@lloydhenriksson it was, eight hours was not enough time, the place is so massive and there is just so much interesting history! 👍😀
Aghhh. The mesmerizing Herberton 🥰
Love this little lifestyle museum. It is a bit like a sovereign hill 🧐
That cut with the creepy dolls is an absolute classic! Love it😅
Thank you for showcasing the beauty of this town 🙏
Also!
Are you aware of the style of music you tend to lean to Marcus?
Do you have any musical training? I am curious 🧐
I’ve been searching for the formula 🧬
This is-I think, part of the magic in your vids.
The combination of spectacular videography and compound timing of the music makes for soul soothing entertainment 🫡 🎶 👌🏼💯🫶🏻🤗😉🦆
Thanks! Yes, the music plays a big part and has played a big part in my life since I was quite young. It's a good creative outlet, and as a bonus, we get to record our memories! 😀👍🍻
@@VetinaVan nice 😊
I’m lost without my music. Love that I can take it everywhere and entertain myself and others. Always brings a smile to a frown. 🥹😉🫶🏻🦆
On a BBC show, I can remember. But I think Edwardian farm. Going back in time show. The farmers on a side line would put corrugated tin in a pump outlet stream from a tin mine. The tim would collect on the corrugated tin sheet, and they scape it off and sell it.
@RustyCandyAdventures they had a video room where a 45-minute documentary was running about the history of the region, and the old miners were doing exactly that! 🍻👍
