The flashback to the Sophie conversation seems really strange, I can't think of another example in the whole series they used that exposition device.... Feels like it's from another show.

As another Yank I agree with you with the exception of the American office. Though very different from the original I thought it was excellent in its early seasons
the american office is the exception that proves the rule that American versions basically don't work. The Office [as I feel I am right in calling it vs "The British Office", again the exception that proves the rule] became it's own thing, much bigger and crazier than the original. Peep show never took off in america, because I think it's a much, much bigger deal to hear someone's internal dialog stated plainly and outloud in a culturally repressed and passive aggressive country like the UK. Not talking shit, BTW, I'm from the west coast, we know passive aggressive, that's why britcoms play so well over here.

personally i think its more to do with aging. there is not a plot about her looking aweful... so why would they put make-up on her etc. Although, i think the actress will feel aweful after reading these comments. over the 5 years, she's been looking 10 years older.
