- London-based director Yumna Al-Arashi’s poetic new film-which originally premiered at Tribeca Film Festival-sheds light on the mysticism and rituals that have been part of the Islamic tradition throughout the centuries. Here she explains why her film is not just about beauty, but about correcting the often negative portrayals of Islam:
“Piecing together the old and the new, I aimed to create dreamlike imagery that breathes fresh air into a subject rarely seen in a positive light. The importance of geometry, nature, spiritual connectivity, style, meditation and feminine power are components of Islam that the modern media have failed to depict. “My goal is to revive these historic themes in a beautiful manner, exploring Islam’s underlying meditative, universal, and spiritual values. It is time we see new imagery dedicated to truly understanding a religion filled with mysticism and beauty.”

What is the meaning behind the dates?
And I feel like the name( 99 names of god) has nothing to do with the content of the video
the mother and the kid are reading all the 99 names of god.

Well done film, but rather than convey an understanding of Islam as "a religion filled with mysticism and beauty" as Director Yumna Al-Arashi intended, the film displays the absurdity of RELIGION in general and all it's ridiculous rituals.
Tine Woodbe Just like your morning coffee rituals which serve no other purpose but to make you feel comfortable with your life.
I don't drink coffee.
How does the film displays that? If you don’t believe this shows the beauty of Islam then appreciate it for the aesthetic and don’t take it personal, don’t offend other people’s belief by saying it’s ridiculous.
Paula Reyes SAID: "...don’t offend other people’s belief by saying it’s ridiculous."
REPLY: That is of course unless their beliefs are in fact ridiculous as often is the case with RELIGION. e.g. kissing a wall, bowing and kneeling several times a day, wearing discs or cloth wraps on one's head, and on and on... all in the name of something unproven.
Political correctness has it's place, but when it is used to suppress opposing points of view or stifle people from calling unproven things "unproven" - then PC has gone too far.
Toughen up, not everything everyone says needs to fit your definition of acceptability : )
Tine Woodbe are you jealous ?.. do you wish to be like them .. cause you seem to think highly of yourself as if you’re smarter than them but jealous of their trust in their God..
