@@francescogendrinable Hi, he attended The Armed Forces Technical School, Halmstad, Sweden. I don't know how it works elsewhere, but in Czech Republic you have to join the military to be able to get this type of training.
Multi-million dollar machines, state-of-the-art equipment, massive facilities, and a piece of cardboard with holes punched in it to make sure everything goes back together correctly.
You have to put tape so it doesn't get wet when you give it a wash what happens when you're flying through rain and thunder you're going to give him an umbrella😂
"sadly I wasn't able to become a pilot myself as my hearing and sight weren't good enough that's why I became a mechanic" I remember that day I visited some army officiers at a orientation meeting when I was 18. I explained to them that I'm deaf, I can talk and read on lips. And they told me I can't work in the army at all even as a mechanic. I dreamed to be a fighter pilot. I'm glad I can watch these guys accomplishing their dreams at least.
Those Czechs are good eggs. They don't take short cuts! A weapons platform like this, which is a solid weapons system...is only good as the pilot at the controls. But... the pilot is only as good as the flight crew keeping these incredibly complicated and high tech machines operating at the its absolute highest possibility capabilities. Every time those pilots positions and holds in the runway..their lives are literally in the hands of that crew and their efforts for nearly two months. It really is amazing how so many people can come together working on machines with thousands of parts where...if just one tiny part fails... a pilot and $35 million buck become an extremely expensive lawn dart! A dart that explodes in a fireball! Good on ya, Czech Republic. Glad you're on our side!
Excellent documentary; congrats to the Czech team doing that great work. Hats off to SAAB and the Swedes for designing this beautiful machine. Unfortunately because of such low numbers produced its very expensive to acquire though operating costs are the best in the world!

50 days of work for numerous mechanics and the jet is now ready for another 200 hours of flying! Egads! That’s a harsh ratio of ground hours to flight hours!
The gripen is one of the least demanding of service intervalls of all the fighters in the world. So just imagine how often a F-35 have to do there service
Swedish aircraft, perfect plane and superb reliability. It is not one of the most modern ones, but still one of the greatest fighter jets ever buildt. It would have been fun to see my fellow swedes servicing these models instead. Not because these guys are not skilled enough, they sure are. I just think it would be more fun to see and maybe more interesting too, as the aircraft was engineered and buildt in Sweden.
I think saab allowed this documentary to happen so potential buyers would see about the ease of maintenance of the Gripens by showing a foreign user of gripen doing maintenance.

I'm amazed how clean the engine is going back in ,engines usually have alot more auxiliaries strapped to them ,they must be already in the fuselage waiting to be connected, for quick exchanges 😮
The landing strip at 1:12 is actually Highwayy 44, just 15 km south of the town Lidköping, Sweden. There are four of those runways in line, all built in 1990 and refurbihed last year.
The F-16 is way better, more reliable, last longer and cheaper to maintain than the Gripen any day. Phillipines was a former US colony so i doubt they will go for the Gripen.
The Ukrainian Air Force should consider the Gripen. It is designed to operate in the field, from very basic runways, with quick Fueling, Ammo and maintenance turn-around between sorties

@ No that's definitely not correct. This type of engine has to turn at about 3000 rpm minimum to even get into a state of self sustaining combustion. So it will never run at 1200 rpm on idle.

As a commercial pilot of 44 years, I have to ask if any of the communication equipment is tested ? For us this equipment is as important as all the rest of the aircrafts equipment ? j
I'm an avionics tech on fighters in the USAF. I imagine it is similar to what we do (although their safety practices are sub par). Every ISO/Phase inspection nearly every system is ops checked at the final engine run for acceptance. All radios, INS/GPS, electronic warfare etc.
How cool to see how the new combat aircraft in Brazil is maintained. The difference is that this Gripen E engine is 80.40 kN and the Gripen NG version of Brazil is a 98 kN engine.

Well I love to hear the story that they want to share it's a serious job that only highly motivated people who have high skills and intelligence and I respect them for being able to get the job done and the trust they have for each other is staggering cause they have honor and that's why they are so successful in what they do they are brother in arms
Definitely made for television haha no engine mechanic is paying attention to the sand knick on that compressor blade lol and yes I am a jet engine mechanic. Worked on the F404, lm2500 and the 9k50.
The part they missed about the hydraulic fluid and engine oil at the start of the job is that it has nothing to do with the time to change the fluids. It's about getting samples so you can analyze the contaminants in them to tell if there are any internal failures.
In the section at 12:00, Roman is scootching himself into the left intake to the engine. His protective suit makes scratching, scraping, squeaking sounds as he slides against the inside of the plane's intake. At 13:00, the narrator says, "Roman has to keep an eye out for every tiny dent. Most of which are caused by stones...or birds, hitting the plane". at that moment, I could SWEAR I hear a duck quack. So it goes, "stones or birds hitting the plane (quack!)". Listen for yourself, the duck's quack is right at 13:06. Was that Roman's protective suit? Or was it the voice of a duck who made it to the afterlife the hard way? You decide! And that's my humor for the day. 😅
I always wanted to know how to disassemble my 27mm barrel based revolver cannon machine gun, but people always laughed at me when I asked. So that's good. However, I'm a bit disappointed that they didn't include a shot of a worker saying "it's my dream job" then zooming out to show his superior officer standing right behind him. That would have been quite funny.
I had imagined we were spared hyperbole and redundancy in documentaries. Nice to see it's alive and well. What is it with American narrators they have to emotionalise a friggin' doco? "They have to remove the volatile explosive." Well, . . duuhhh. . . . that's what makes explosives explode. "If he doesn't (abc) then it's possible . . . " "If he makes one mistake . ." Uuhhh, yeah, obviously. That's why the military hire professionals for this job. Note to narrators, it ain't reality TV. Simply tell us what's going on. It's not a difficult ask. We don't appreciate being treated like 5 year-olds.

Our Philippine Air Force is choosing between this Gripen and the F-16. I'm hoping we stick with the Gripen.

Well I love to hear the story that they want to share it's a serious job that only highly motivated people who have high skills and intelligence and I respect them for being able to get the job done and the trust they have for each other is staggering cause they have honor and that's why they are so successful in what they do they are brother in arms

Definitely made for television haha no engine mechanic is paying attention to the sand knick on that compressor blade lol and yes I am a jet engine mechanic. Worked on the F404, lm2500 and the 9k50.
The part they missed about the hydraulic fluid and engine oil at the start of the job is that it has nothing to do with the time to change the fluids. It's about getting samples so you can analyze the contaminants in them to tell if there are any internal failures.

In the section at 12:00, Roman is scootching himself into the left intake to the engine. His protective suit makes scratching, scraping, squeaking sounds as he slides against the inside of the plane's intake. At 13:00, the narrator says, "Roman has to keep an eye out for every tiny dent. Most of which are caused by stones...or birds, hitting the plane". at that moment, I could SWEAR I hear a duck quack. So it goes, "stones or birds hitting the plane (quack!)". Listen for yourself, the duck's quack is right at 13:06. Was that Roman's protective suit? Or was it the voice of a duck who made it to the afterlife the hard way? You decide! And that's my humor for the day. 😅
Going inside the jet is the toughest part of job I guess. Only bravest of the brave can do it.

I always wanted to know how to disassemble my 27mm barrel based revolver cannon machine gun, but people always laughed at me when I asked. So that's good.
However, I'm a bit disappointed that they didn't include a shot of a worker saying "it's my dream job" then zooming out to show his superior officer standing right behind him. That would have been quite funny.
At the time of test flight when jet was in the air safely I was feeling proud like I am the part of this maintenance team..Great job guys👍
