Can We Get our $1000 CNC Plasma Table To Work?

  • Today we work on sorting out our latest purchase for the shop. A new(to me) CNC Plasma Table!
    Recently we found what I think was a great deal on a Langmuir Crossfire Pro CNC Plasma Table, it was listed on Facebook Marketplace for just $1500. But better than that we we able to score it for $1000. It looked the part of a $1000 plasma table, so today we disassemble, clean, refinish and get this thing hopefully working like new.
    This will be a tremendous help in our custom aluminum dashboard build on the LS3 swapped Land Rover Defender.

    Excited to see you get this thing running. Interesting that you mentioned Bulltear. One of the guys running it was/is an AMC enthusiast and had a side business of cranking out unique components for those motors. Which, if you own an AMC, especially a Jeep SJ, you are well versed in the factory's choice of materials to wrap their wire splices. Duct tape. Yes. Duct tape. Factory..... Apparently, blue masking tape wasn't available then.

      Yes, that is the guy. We actually had our table custom spec’d and we went up and spent a day with Matt getting trained and checking out the machine shop. He was a pretty neat guy and it was a fun day up there.
      That’s funny with the duct tape, I guess it is acceptable then haha.

      I 100% agree. It is usually just timing on things like that. And the guy was a real stand up gentleman and didn’t sell it to someone else after striking a deal and giving me time to make the 3.5 hour trip.

    Well there you go, Now I do agree on getting a deal and saving some cash with just some time invested. Try to do it when ever I can. Just make me a set of transmission lines to the D2 trans cooler that don't leak or break 😪

      Does the water table bolt down or just sit there?

    • @LostCauseRanch
      @LostCauseRanch  7 месяцев назад +1

      I actually built my little space under the mezzanine around one of these, so super happy to have one pop up for a decent deal. But I can let you know how it is to use, curious how it compares to the plasmacam as they are kind of in a similar range. It won’t be as good as our bulltear was but I won’t be running near the amount of steel through it. We would cut a pile of 3/4 and 1” with that one.
      I just have the water table sitting there. If it ends up moving with the vibrations I’ll make some clamps up for it underneath. The factory Langmuir water table uses self tapping screws through the bottom.

    Nice find and restoration! Suggest you “ground” to your workpiece directly so you can get the best cut quality and to prevent misfires as the slats don’t always conduct reliably.

    • @LostCauseRanch
      @LostCauseRanch  7 месяцев назад

      I'll see how happy it ends up being. On the last two plasmas we had with bolted the ground directly to the table and never had an issue with it not being able to ground correctly through the slats. But you never know as those were much heavier duty tables so I will definitely keep an eye on it, thanks for the heads up!
