Black Flies A Paramedic Drama Premiered at Cannes

As Sean Penn stars in Black Flies, a grizzled veteran paramedic called "Rut" now on the nighttime beat along with his rookie partner Cross, played with conviction by Tye Sheridan, responds to calls in a run-down neighborhood in Brooklyn called Brownsville. The setting is classic Hollywood: an older man who has seen it all paired with an inexperienced newbie trying to survive on the mean streets of New York City, ground zero for those who find little hope in the U.S. healthcare system. This is the tough gang membership, the abused and beaten wives, the homeless camped in laundromats, the drug addicts, the ignored immigrants, and more that these guys see every day.
