Ever thought of putting a border on the eagle tower so the nest wouldn’t fall , and maybe start the basic skeleton of a nest 🪹 let the eagles finish it off
as a Licensed raptor breeder who breeds hawks and falcons in captivity, this is an EXCELLENT idea. the skeleton of the nest would really inspire them that the tower is a good place for a family, and the eagles will add to the whatever skeleton nest is set up.
Just completed binge watching the whole pond build series It's simply "wowsome" I have no idea about fishing what so ever but looking at pure the excitement when someone catches a fish is awesome
Grab a pole and go find a pond. Start with a hook, Sinker, worm and bobber. You'll catch every kind of fish on a worm. Enjoy! It's definitely one of life's joys
The type of lichen on the tree is fruticose. As someone else mentioned it's a great indicator of air pollution being low. It doesn't harm the tree however and you'll find the deer will make quick work of it in winter - it's a great snack for grazing animals.
I'd like to add that lichen on a MIGHT be an indicator of slow growth, as the trunk growth is slower than the lichens ability to fasten(as most trees grow, it shreds the outer layer of bark, like dead skin, so lichen and other organisms have a harder time fastening). Of course there are many factors, and you can't conclude that a tree is slowly growing only because of that. I know when valiuating the cost of tree damage compensation, lichen growth lowers the compensation cost(it might only be aesthetic). I haven't ever heard that it's straight up damaging. It seems like you are kind of a nutrient nerd, and if you want a faster tree growth, you could consider doing a soil analysis, and see if the trees have all the nutrients it needs for optimal growth. This is just what I have been taught in school as a future forrest manager. I loooove your videos, please keep up the good work. Kind regards from Denmark.
these are so much more than updates about the pond. it’s the whole ecosystem and that’s really want keeps bringing me back. so jealous of this little paradise you’ve made!
No "lip" for the Eagle's platform? You asked a couple of weeks ago. Something to keep twigs and potential nesting material from blowing off. A 2x6" lip would help. Something for sure!
Very common in commercial electrical work. Suck a string tied to whatever first and then use it to help pull fish tape through and then the fish tape pulls the conductors through the conduit
Im an industrial programmer. Watching this gices me so many ideas! To solve the first issue that you mentioned, referencing the tag number with the name of the fish, you could set up a simple SQl database. You could then FIND the name from a "names" database to update the name in your "live" database. I think the issue that you will run into is user experience. Entering new names, organizing the data, and Most importantly, the interface. My idea is you could have a map of your pond with live data, showing where the fish are at any given time. I work a lot with a software called Ignition. A software like ignition can manage your databases, show live and historical data, and allow you to enter new fish names/weights/etc. there are a lot of really cool things you could do with this, and it would be relatively simple! Can't wait to see what you decide!
On another note related to the Rainbow Trout, if you want them to reproduce I was thinking you could make a creek/stream system that loops out and back into the main pond. It could have features dotted and connected throughout the creek system such as gravel beds, waterfalls, rapids, mini ponds, marshes, bridges, sandy beaches etc... heck, it could even be connected to the Aquascape pond too, but I'm not sure about that. It might also be a cool project for the Aquascape guys to come work on. It would also be interesting to see how the other fish react and move about the creek like trout trying to jump over a waterfall or trout spawning in a gravel bed for example (and take it from me who lives in Alaska, watching Salmonids spawn is a sight to behold). Edit: One thing I didn't factor in was the water temperature and how far south Alabama was. However, I still think the creek idea would be really cool to add to the pond even if it's not possible to keep the rainbow trout alive. I'm also wondering if there are alternative fish species that uses flowing water to spawn and can survive Alabama's summer temperatures? I've researched that White bass go upriver to spawn, maybe they or something similar could work?
The slow mo of the fish jumping is awesome footage - been keeping up with the pond build since the start. Love the channel and the quality you put out.
I love how you're slowly becoming the NSA for bass lmfao. Seriously though this is awesome, can't wait for you to expand the system. The data could really be invaluable to other fishkeepers if you choose to share it at some point, showing where the fast growers hang out and what conditions they like
Try wiring on some 3 to 4 inch branches accross the eagle platform, for roosting spots and to help hold a nest in place. Also some form of shade or protection from the elements above the platform might be good as well
I'm happy for the four people that had their bass names chosen. It will make episode watching much more interesting for them, waiting for their bass to be caught and logged. 😊

I think this pond has more technology in and around it then what the US has sent into space! The bag/ vacuum trick has to be one of the coolest things I’ve ever learned. I don’t even fish and live in urban New Jersey, but still watch this channel religiously. ❤
The bald eagles have really made a come back in the southeastern US. I am in the floirda panhandle and never saw them growing up, but we have a nesting pair in the neighborhood with a nest right next to the lake. I saw a juvenile flying with one of the adults for the first time the other day. They stick around all year, unlike the ospreys.
I live way north, in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. There was a news story just the other day about how for the first time, a pair of bald eagles have made a nest in the city! We see eagles every once in a while here, but its the first actual nest that's been recorded. The location is being kept pretty hush hush so people don't disturb it, but it looks like they're starting to expand their habitat all the way into Canada's biggest city!
@Steve-ev6vx It surely is. Toronto is a waterfront city with an active fresh water port. We have a really dense, lush river valley cutting through the entire city from north to south called the Don Valley. It's a beautiful place that you could literally spend an entire day hiking through. You'd totally forget you're in the 4th largest city in North America. Fairly sure it's somewhere in there along the river. That or it's on the Toronto islands or at the Leslie Spit, which is a massive reclaimed wetland in the harbour (Lake Ontario) where you can literally see deer, beavers, foxes, coyotes, turtles etc., yet you're surrounded by skyscrapers. If Toronto does one thing really well, it's integrating dense nature and wildlife into a metro of around 8 million people
Growing up we would see one on a rare occasion. These days in Nebraska its a rare occurrence I don't see one on a drive over an hour long. I've come close to hitting several with my truck while they scavenge road kill. Their numbers are drastically improving in the midwest. There is one section along the river where they congregate during the winter months. I counted 13 within a half mile stretch, that was wild!
