Wow - amazing catch! I had one go into emergency in front of me, but nothing quite like that. It's amazing how quickly they really can bring that train to a stop though. Probably the only time I was a little nervous in case something jumped the tracks.
@@noahtomczakfilms183 that is the wonderful world of trains for you; my grandfather worked the railroad for GN which became BN later in his career and he was the head engineer at the time of his retirement.....man I never seen a train separate so quickly like that before but when I heard the air line hissing I knew what was going on and the train came to an abrupt stop 😐

Good video and camera work.... now for your test.... Did they replace the knuckle with an 'E' or 'F' knuckle...? cue the final Jeopardy theme music. It was an old break as the saying goes; just look at all that rust. LOL Did u buy a lottery ticket immediately after that break-in-two?
@@noahtomczakfilms183 IF I SEE THIS WHEN I GO RAILFANNING I WILL GO INSANE AND I SAY "OH MY GOSH WE'VE GOT AN A EMERGENCY HERE!!!!!! THE TRAIN JUST BUSTED THE COUPLER OPEN"
This is what happens sometimes when you run these 15k ton 14k feet trains. That coupled to wet rail, might have had a little wheel slip from the DP units or something. Old ass Conrail hopper cars. Theyll blame the crew, as always. These managers couldn't run a train around a God damn Christmas tree let alone these big hunks of garbage, manifest trains
@@noahtomczakfilms183 I'm kinda sad I missed something so rare and cool, but at the same time, this should not be happening as often as it does for 12R. I hope NS corporate HQ gets tired of getting busted knuckle reports from him and realize they can't pile 3 trains onto 1 lol
@@CosmicDonut They don't really care. It's been happening for months like this and little to nothing has been done aside from limiting tonnage on the DP trains on certain districts. This particular 12R was 15,100 tons and around 11000 ft. if I remember correctly. The trouble is when they cut off 158 and 36Q, they piled it all onto 12R. Everything that used to be 158 is on the rear to be set out at Montview Yard in Lynchburg and that block is very heavy. DP comm issues and bad weight distribution in front of and behind the DP play a role in these incidents.
@@mayormccheeze5951 I have no doubt they don't care. I was half joking. But the principle is the same as the several derailments they had at HSC. How long is it gonna take them to learn.
@@CosmicDonut lol I don't think they ever will learn. Last week 18T string lined 5 cars just coming off of a bridge north of Shenandoah, VA because of DP comm loss. These land barge 15000 ton freight trains ain't working on these rolling hills and mountains. Lol
нет, это могло быть из-за сломанного сустава, вызванного слишком грубым обращением и нагрузкой на штифт, удерживающий суставы на месте (translate in english) no it would have been because of a broken knuckle cause by to much rough handling and stress on the pin holding the knuckles in place
man, that has to be one of the best catches of this year. I still can't believe we saw that happen right in front of us, awesome video!
I know right!!
Must have been his first time.
I love how the dude next to him also has his video up lol
Terrific catches/meets/races! That's crazy! That happened once in Gaithersburg with a CSX train in 2015 or 2013.
Thanks! Wow!
“Oh my god oh my gosh!” 😆 their reactions 🤣
Hello
1:34 exact break moment
Is it a worry that you have watched so many of these vids, you know exactly what that sounds means?
@@VerilyVerbatim Oh My God!
super cool - right place, right time
The train wanted to follow 6 feet rules
Wow! Listen to those brakes scream!
Cause they were wet
great catch,,,,,,,,..........the definition of being in the right place at the right time..................
That was some good work I really enjoyed it just goes to show how dangerous trains are
Thanks. It was the size of the train that made the train this dangerous.
@@noahtomczakfilms183 : Hi a question: why are the trains so long in North America ?
@@blackyellowred2000 because management is stupid and they don't have to run them.
Great catch! Model railway couplers irl XD

Thanks! Yeah, it's amazing how fast they slow down and come to a stop.

In February before Groundhogs Day we can go Railfanning at the Pomona Yard
That train is cursed I think. He had mechanical issues in Thomasville today (12-8-19) and sat for about three or four hours...
Good Lord. I think it's all because of Precision Scheduled Railroading. 12R has had problems ever since.
Air hoses don’t hold the train together
I didn’t know they still used slip coaches
Dayumm, kinda scary !!
Those breaks squealing though.
at 2:48 who's that person wearing a yellow vest walking right there

1:46 Train Car: Ummmmmm What is That Sound???
*train Goes Into Emergency Stop*
All: OH NO
Forunately it was at a place where helpers could go easily.
I never forget that time NS12R broke a knuckle in front of us
Wowwww!!! En el momento indicado. Saludos desde la Ciudad de México.
Don't know why you kept showing the NS hopper car. Nothing changed between views.
4 knuckles in a day! Bad maintenance, who pays for the delays?
PSR Does!!
Hello, what does it take to work on the railroad? Do they ask me for a career or study to be a machinist or how can I work on trains?
Such drama ,what a way to carry on
OH MY GOD THAT IS INSANE

How many cars was it pulling???
Can't remember. All though this 12R was a giant train and it required 2 mid train DPUs.
