Must've been so many. Luckily the cast became fantastic friends and have been working together ever since; Yonderland, the Shakespearean farce film Bill, Ghosts on BBC One... they still work together and are best friends (even more like family) even after 15 years and I love it.
I'm now 17 years old, doing my A-Level in History. Sometimes something will crop up in my lessons that makes me remember this show and I'll think "I remember that from Horrible Histories, they were right". This show was my childhoooddddd
whilst entertaining this show is anything but historically acurate, especially those rat fact thingies, usually the context is completely wrong just so history seems worse than it was the songs were entertaining and all but should you pursue a carreer in history, be advised it is nowhere near accurate, not to make an authority argument but still, you wil find that people hundreds and even thousands of years back were not necesarily dumber than us either, a couple hundred years back they translated arabic to latin and then back to any other language to get access to greek scripts that had since been lost in the west (mostly because there was a short period in which the byzantine empire didn't like anything pagan and well....) but that is just an example, it is all very logical though, when you think about it based on what they "knew" to be true, people also did not really think the world was flat, neither did the church, there must have always been a few but greek philosophers had allready deviced that the world was round and thus the church and the entire west accepted it as fact, since the ancients were clearly always right.
3 years after this comment, I’m 17 and midway through my history A-level, with plans to study it at Uni. I have Horrible Histories to thank for my love of the subject.
I mean, Monty Python, and Black Adder, for that matter, were inspirations for this series. I liked it as a kid because unlike other kids shows that were airing, it didn’t patronise kids. They didn’t tone stuff down solely because we were kids and it wasn’t done in a way that would make me feel like they were underestimating the intelligence of kids (which, as previously stated, is fairly common). Now pretty most kids shows airing on Australian free to air TV is for preschoolers under the assumption that children are stupid and undeserving of quality.
It’s not done that’s only series 5 they’d change actors but there not as good as the ogs like Ben willbound , Mathew Bayton , Jim Howick ,Simon farnaby and Laurence Richard . ( I’m not one hundred percente sure but I think )
Aaaaand there goes half of my childhood... Wow, this feels like one of my close friends just died. Horrible Histories will always remain my favourite comedy sketch show.
I am sad now. There was so much good about this show. There are so much shows that I would prefer to get cancelled before horrible history but, all good things must come to a end:( But it is best to be happy it was a thing to begin with. This kinda of show would have never happen here in the U.S.
I remember when Horrible Histories first came out. Ever since the first episode I was hooked. I watch all the episodes in every series. Horrible Histories influenced me so much that I chose History for GCSE many years later. But to see it finish in front of my eyes in a final song just makes me cry.
I love Horrible Histories its part of the reason why I love history so much, it introduced it to me at such a young age. I am not crying, I just miss it.

At the age of 13, I can say that the majority of my childhood was spent excitedly waiting on new episodes of this show each week. I cannot genuinely believe that it's over. So many amazing memories from this over the years. I am not ashamed to say that I cried a little watching this video. Truly and absolutely amazing. R.I.P. Horrible Histories.
just watching all H H songs at 3 am on a Thursday. I thought it was an end to the series. the only reason I'm in top set for history is because of this lovely show. RIP horrible histories 😭

BEST TV Show EVER! Intended for children, but OMG we adults enjoy every bit of it! Sad it has to come to an end, but it is understandable, as the AMAZING cast (Mat, Martha, Simon, Jim, Ben & Larry) are working in Yonderland. This song and video gives me the chills every time! I don’t want HH to end!! The only thing missing here was … Death and the Rat!! I know it would be kind of difficult to put them here and maybe don’t belong within the concept of the video, but they are so KEY in HH and so funny!! Thanks HH for helping me practice my English, (Sing along songs are FANTASTIC) while I learn a lot about British Monarchs, and become a more educated person, NO other show accomplish so much, YOU ARE UNIQUE … I LOVE HH!!!
I still remember more from Horrible Histories than I ever learnt in actual history lessons... I loved every episode, you learnt without realising it and enjoyed it. This cast and crew were amazing
A total gift of a series. Pure entertainment. Educational, poignant, funny, sad and above all thought provoking. Simply marvellous. Thank you to ALL involved.
The cast of Horrible Histories penned an original feature film called Bill (2015) which you can buy on RUclips. It’s a comedic, and slightly exaggerated take on the origins of William Shakespeare, who is played by Mathew Baynton himself. If you miss the show I highly recommend you go support them and watch their movie, it’s really funny and it brings back so much nostalgia from the original series.
1066 saw Harold in a fix, as William conquered all, what was the betting a arrow in his retina would lead to his down fall" i still recite it till this day
Is it weird that I found this sound quite emotional?! I've never actually watched an episode of Horrible Histories but I am forever using clips and trying to find songs they have done to use with my students - they love them (as do I).
It’s the day before my A Level English Language Paper 2 exam. I still go back to ‘Literally’ the Vikings song to know what year the Vikings invaded England. I’ll be sitting at my desk going 🎶 was the summer of 793, when we sailed across the great north sea 🎶

I understand why they didn't. Satirizing stuff like the Vietnam War, Korean War, the various de-imperialization and instability after etc. in the manner that we love might not sit well with people involved in those conflicts. And you get the occasional 20th century thing in the show here and there. They did a Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin bit a while back.
timlamiam I think it was in living memory. In an interview matt said its hard to make jokes about WW2 because people's families are still connected to it. With the cold war, it'll be hard to make jokes without offending to much people
Thomas Widnall yup exactly. Like imagine if they did the Vietnam War. It would probably be making fun of how American veterans or Vietcong fighters died like they did for other wars, and if they did that, Vietnamese and/or Americans would go ballistic.

Horrible Histories defines part of my life. I cried so hard after watching this. Absolutely beautiful. They seriously couldn't have wrapped up the series more impeccably. I'll miss the living heck out of this show, especially the cast... but I think it was wise of them to quit while they were ahead. I'll cherish the existing episodes forever. T__T
Thank you, Horrible Histories, for making me cry over a montage of people dressed as cavemen and Egyptians. But also for teaching me more than any of my history teachers ever did, and giving me a good laugh at the same time :')
