  • Ezarcher Linux Build Templates - Make Your Own Custom Arch ISO
    This is a quick video showing how easy it can be to create your own customized Ezarcher build with one of my templates and a little experimentation. I show how to transfer the desktop theme, icon choice, panel settings, and wallpaper selection from your desktop into the Ezarcher build. The ISO will have the same settings as your Mate desktop if you follow this guide. I also cover how to rebrand the Calamares installer with your own logo, slide show, and wallpaper choices. I also add the Trizen AUR helper into the build. I forgot to demo that working at the end of the video, but it does work.
    My Ezarcher templates make it relatively easy to create your very own customized Arch based respin distribution ISO. You can create an ISO for your own backup and system maintenance purposes. Or, you can put your creation up on the web for others to download and use. Just have fun. :-)

    Man O' Man, done downloaded the video, sharpened my pen & will soon give this another look at. You know, I said way back that I believed that the EZArcher way will take over as the consummate way to install Arch Linux and a desktop of your choice. I still believe that! Great work & thank you again for all you have done for Linux in general & making Arch easy to install and easier to understand. :D

    Amazing video. Thank you alot for such amazing content and providing your support to the community. I personally do not like mate because I think it's old and eats alot of memory. I did the same with cinnamon with your cinnamon template but the panels aren't available as I customized, it's just blanked. You said in this video that for mate you only need mate and dconf folder, can you please tell us what folders do we need to export to etc/skel in template for cinnamon, xfce and gnome respectively ?

      It is going to be a matter of trial and error. Both Cinnamon and Xfce have dot folders. What specific files are going to be different depending on the settings you want to transfer. You will have to experiment and figure it out.

    i dont understand why one would need to create custom ISO when there is nothing but just pre-selected/pre-installed apps? It takes less time to install arch manually + apps you need (not to mention, latest packages), than create your own iso, add stuff, install, and depending on how old the iso was, update if necessary since this is a rolling distro. imho. Hope to see some presets at least rather than just vanilla packages.

    Wow, great tutorial, awesome job and thank you. One question though, at aprox 18:20 you open a text file "calamares-dependencies.txt" and I am not seeming to find it in any of the templates. Not sure if I am supposed to create that and if so is there differences between the DE's? Or did it possibly get overlooked in the latest update? Thanks in advance for any help.

      In the ezarcher isos, it is in the home folder in ezarcher/ExtraPkgs/calamares/ and in the calamares-20211222.tar file from Sourceforge.

      The video explains what you are asking. I use the archiso releng profile and customize it with the steps.sh script before running the mkarchiso command. All the files in my build template are copied into the profile folder, in my case, called ezreleng, and then the build proceeds.

    • @eznix
      @eznix  3 года назад

      The level of detail you are providing is not sufficient to tell why calamares is not running. What files did you change and how, exactly? What programs, exactly, did you remove? Did you try running calamares from the command line in the live system? Open a terminal and use sudo calamares -d to run calamares in debug mode and see what the output tells you.
      The more you change, the more risk you take of breaking something, unless you are very precise and consistent. I cannot help you be more precise and consistent. Make little changes, test, and reevaluate. There are no shortcuts. This is on you to figure out what you have broken and then fix it.
