I'm loving this new channel, Sophie! I'm 48, and I've gone from "when are you having kids?" to "you should've had kids" when I'm entirely comfortable with my life choices. Funny how it seems to still be fair game to ask, though. Maybe I really wanted kids and tried for years, but it didn't happen? Imagine being in that position, and having someone berate you for being child-free. Have a great weekend! x

I'm childfree also, I'm 31. I've been fortunate that I've never been pressured to have children, my uncle asked me if I'd likely have children and I said no probably not and my family all accept it. There was a short period of time i was thinking about adoption and i realised it was because my cousin was pregnant with her first which isnt the best reason to have a child
I don't think anyone expects me to have children.

It's so bizarre that people question other's decision not have kids. It's such a big thing to take on, no one should be doing it who doesn't whole heartedly want to do it. I think so many of us had bad child hoods because our parents followed the idea that they should have kids rather than questioning whether they actually wanted them.

Love your new channel so much! I have a different take on the having children question. I think for some women who have children- when they find out that someone doesn’t (some, not all) …. and they see that person traveling or going out to nice dinners or having a more care free life- there is an element of envy. Who knows- maybe they accidentally became pregnant ? are struggling financially with one or more kids? maybe they are not in a good relationship with their partner or are single parents? Then someone without all of the heavy responsibility of parenthood is someone to be envious of. Maybe they didn’t realize they didn’t HAVE to have kids- they just did what they assumed had to be done without much forethought?

E COLI: Update as of 4 hours ago.
Food manufacturers are recalling at least 56 types of pre-packed sandwiches, wraps and salads sold in major supermarkets because of possible contamination with E. coli.
    E. coli bacteria have not been detected in the products, but they are being recalled as a precaution. It is understood these are items containing salad leaves.

Ive learnt over the years never to assume what you consider to be common knowledge actually is common knowledge for everyone because we all grow up and experience different things. I
remember Lidl had a phase where I live in Norway too, but no one liked the store so it went away quickly again and was replaced by some other equally affordable store instead that people loved. It was never about the price, it was the layout, the products we love that weren’t there, the parking lot and the everything.

The reality is that most of the supermarkets including the budget and high end ones will share a lot of suppliers, especially for the non premium, everyday products. Sometimes it's obvious and sometimes you can tell from the recalls. I've also known people working in factories producing food and they're often making much the same product for all the different supermarkets and it'll just be packaged differently.

Hi Sophie. Wondering about a brand you've never heard of and saying that out loud is pretty authentic, if you ask me. And I have never known you to be anything else.
Concerning Aldi, it opened in Germany when I was a kid and it was a total game changer to low and middle class families who suddenly could afford to eat healthier than before without having a garden. Aldi and Lidl are a staple in a lot of German households nowadays and I am missing them dearly since having emigrated.

I'm going to comment on the e coli. I took Serve Safe several times here in the States and it's pretty much an industry standard for food handling. E coli can be on the surface of a steak and the process of cooking (the heat) will kill it. If you take that same steak and ground it up and make burgers cooking won't kill the e coli as easily. It's been ground into your meat. This is why I always order hamburgers very well done.
    Hope that helps someone!

A lot of people here prefer shop elsewhere as Aldi does not have a wide range of products. So they prefer go to other supermarkets which hold a wider selection of products. Each to their own. I use to judge Aldi and Ladl (in US)at fist glance bc it’s very casual looking with products displayed from the box which actually helps with the employees not having to empty the product for display. It’s very smart marketing in the end. When you try the products and experience the good quality you come back for more. We now shop there all the time. Do you have Ross in the UK. It’s like TKmaxx but lower prices and brands not always known but good quality. I usually get my intimate wear there bc the prices are so much cheaper but same brands. You just have to search.

I too, live very near a semi costly grocery store, I have been to an Aldi, I like Aldi, but the convenience of the higher end local shop, saves me money in the long run. There is no snobbery involved in my choice of grocers. And I actually love to hit Aldi when I’m near one.

Loving your new channel. On the subject of having kids----it's a personal decision. I chose never to have them myself, even before I found out I couldn't have them anyway. And I did this fairly early on in my life---around the age of 11 or 12. I saw what other women dealt with on a daily basis, and decided it wasn't for me. Of course, I was told that I'd change my mind when I got older, met the right guy, etc. I got on birth control at age 16; my mom didn't even know til a few years later, and I stayed with it. I knew I would have made a lousy parent. I wouldn't have been able to deal with the loss of freedom, sacrifices for things you want, being able to go out or on holiday when you wanted, etc. I have no regrets whatsoever. Now that my last husband has passed, I'm used to and enjoy living alone. I can do what I want when I want, and only have myself to worry about. And I never had to worry about a 16 year old offspring wrecking my car. (Jan Griffiths).

I have never heard of Lidl before. But we have Aldi in California. I can't do a full shop there either. Nor can I do a full shop at Trader Joe's or Costco. So while I love these stores, sometimes you just have to go to the regular grocery store. The store I pick any given day, is going to be the one where I can knock the most off my list! ❤🛒✏️🗒

I think shop where you want to shop! If you want to shop at Waitrose, that’s up to you … it doesn’t make you a snob to not have shopped at more economical places. I only shop at M&S because it’s close, I don’t cook, and I want the best I can find for my personal situation. I wouldn’t shop at Lidl and Aldi, have been to our local Aldi near my work building and we had a Lidl over the road from my 6th form where we all used to go for 25p pizza at lunch. But now, not for me. 🤷‍♂️

My husband and I made the choice not to have children before we got married. We weren’t really pressured, but once my sister-in-law started asking me when we were going to have a baby. I told her that she should have another. And we never had that conversation again. Even though we are older now, it was the right decision for us.

I used to get the pressure to have kids too but in the last few years, I've gotten a lot less questions about having kids and less pressure about our decision to be child-free.
US Polo Association is a legitimate company but they do copy RL. Decades ago ( I think in the 80s) the courts told them they must make sure their logo doesn't cause confusion for the customer (mistaking it for Polo RL) but otherwise they can sell their designs. USPA was around before RL but they started as a sport association (hence the name) and when RL filed copyrights for its logo and designs, they should have challenged RL but didn't.
The main issue is that USPA does indeed cause confusion, as you also experienced. A lot of people think its' related to Polo RL, so they're not doing a great job of not causing confusion. Also, some designs really are copies of Polo RL but there's not really a legal ground for RL to sue b/c you can't patent polo shirts or clothing in general. I have known people that have worked in corporate for both companies and it's interesting to hear each company's perspective.

What you have to know about Aldi and Lidl is that the concept has changed. They used to not sell any known brands. So their food or drinks would we quite weird sometimes. Like “fake” coke and stuff. And yes it was cheaper but not the same. People didn’t do a full shop because some products you really want the brand and not the “knockoff”. The quality of the meat really wasn’t great and the vegetables so so. After a long while they started to add brands to their stores and they changed the layout and look of their stores. They upped the quality of the meat and vegetables as well. So my guess is you had the old comments and the new store and you couldn’t quite match the two :) The people you spoke to weren’t completely wrong 😊

Its people who return fakes after buying the item in store I believe. The next buyer gets stuck with the fake.
ALSO very important to keep in mind that TK Maxx sells licensed stuff of less quality. Works the same as a Peimark using Disney or Marvel. It’s only produced for them. The tag contains the code 1 in the end if I’m not mistaken.
Its really the nr 2 you want. That’s the real stuff being sold at stores first. Which I usually pick and google. Sometimes they’re still on the website of the store like a 500 euro cardigan trompe-l’oeil Ralph Lauren for 100 in TK Maxx I bought recently. Its very real.
Then you have the nr 7 on the labels. That’s deadstock and stuff that’s being held back a few seasons from the bigger brands

Dear Sophie, please don't ever feel the need to have to explain why you didn't patronize certain stores (e.g. Lidl) or apologize for making any honest comment about a brand. I and many others love you for being real and not fake. You don't come off as a snob at all. And US Polo Assn does seem like a copy of Polo even to us in the U.S. In fact, that brand is typically sold in Walmart. Moving on, one of my favorite places in London back in the early 2000s was Covent Garden. I really wonder what it's like there these days. If you ever are up to it, will you take us on a "tour" of the shops/cafes there? Is it safe there? Thanks for another great video! 🎉

It is strange why people can’t mind their own business in regards to if you are a parent or not. I’m a parent and my best friend has no children. However he is the best uncle in the world. He takes his nieces and nephews on holidays so his bother and sister in law can have a break. He gets asks the same question all the time. Are these your kids? Why don’t you have kids. He chose not to have his own kids, he is happy to the uncle that can spoil these kids rotten, as his brother is not as financially secure as he is. It is good that you and David are on the same page. A few people I know got divorced over not wanting kids and their parent wanting to have kids.

I hate the connotations that come with stating you dont want children, almost like its as if youre not enough as a woman if you dont have children, or having children is what completes you as a woman. We never as a woman why she wants to have kids, so why are we asking women why they don't want kids. Oh, you want kids? Great! Oh, you don't want kids? Great! Its a personal decision involving nobody but yourself and your partner. As a single 30 ywar old woman, im constantly getting the watch tapping from family as they just can't comprehend that a young woman could possibly be hapoy single and childless. Its just a bug bear of mine. Love you and David, and the channel!
