Becky from Acre Homestead here on RUclips says that in the USA eggs need to be refrigerated because they are washed and European/British eggs are not washed. Apparently washing removes a protective coating on the egg. Really enjoying this channel. Love a supermarket video! Thank you for this one!

She is correct. Mother hens deposit protective bacteria on the egg, when it is washed off, bad bacteria from the environment can flourish.

I’m in the US and store bought eggs have to be refrigerated. When we get farm eggs, we don’t need to refrigerate and they last. They’re also prettier in an egg basket with shades of white, beige and blue.

They vaccinate their hens to prevent the transmission of salmonella. They then rely on a thin, naturally occurring coating called the cuticle, to prevent any contamination from the outside of the shell penetrating to the egg. In the U.S., this cuticle is removed during washing which is what we do to prevent salmonella rather than vaccinating the laying hens,
      thus requiring refrigeration.

Hi Sophie - As someone with food sensitivities (all the big ones - gluten, dairy, corn, soy, etc) I had to learn at a fairly young age how to eat very differently from most people. It was painful to do so (nearly impossible)... the world has come a long way in a decade. I am also all about food quality which is difficult given the state of the food supply in the US, which is where I am. Seeing you and David pick out your groceries and hearing what you eat made me feel like the two of you are my kindred spirits. I also eat lots of high quality meat and tons of veggies and fruits (berries every day), sweet potatoes, little processed food, no bread, and have a bit of dark chocolate as my only sweet. I also check the ingredients on any packaged foods (and vegetable oils are a big ☠). Thank you for making me feel less alone in my quest for healthy foods! Besides, I just came back from LA and if you ever go, you absolutely have to check out Erewhon, an upscale grocery store that is only in the LA area. It is pricey but literally everything in the store is organic and/or the highest quality that you can find. I stumbled upon it when I was shopping in the Golden Triangle of Beverly Hills... walking down Rodeo Drive... there's Gucci, Celine, Loewe, EREWHON... l did a double take... a grocery store seems misplaced?! 😂 Even the deli food is fantastic... being free of gluten and dairy, I was able to get rotisserie chicken with a kale salad and sweet potatoes and all of these items typically I would expect to be super bland, but in fact the way they were prepared, they were delicious. From what I hear this is the grocery store of choice for Hollywood celebrities, just a little tidbit 😂 Given all of your recent videos on grocery shopping, thought you might find this interesting. Thanks for this brilliant video!

We say receipt not sales slip. A sales slip for us is something that is hand written and was used more often in clothing stores and such about 100 years ago lol. The cargo pants are cute! There is a chain called Fred Meyer’s, has clothes and a grocery store. Targets and Walmarts often include groceries as well but they didn’t always depending on where they are located.

From LA here and I love M&S. I guess the closest is Target for variety of merchandise or Trader Joe’s/Wholefoods for grocery items but definitely not Ralph’s (food there is terrible lol). Keep us posted on your US trip…if you’re visiting Southern California, Premium Outlets and vintage stores are a must for your channel, Sophie! 💕

Oh, I LOVED this! I'm a sucker for vlogs of grocery stores and drug stores. Wondering if you could do a walkthrough of Boots or Superdrug and what kind of skin care, body washes, shampoos, cosmetics you have over in the UK. Might be kind of mundane or down market, but I find all of that fascinating. Thank you, Sophie, as always for bringing us along. Loving the new channel! Be well!

I do really like M&S for everyday clothes but I think they go through phases where it's more interesting. I was buying a lot from them about 6 or 7 years ago but more recently I've not loved the ranges. I need to look again. I like the Collection range they do.
I do like their food to but we don't have a big food hall. One is being built to open in the summer so will be nice to see what they stock. A friend really likes their gluten free range as she has coeliac.
The eggs thing is because in the US eggs are washed which removes the protective layer and makes them porous so bacteria can get on. We don't wash them in the UK so they are shelf stable for a while.

Sophie if u dont want to try pants on at the store, take the waisf of the pants and put it around ur neck. The circumfrance on ur neck and ur waist are somehow the same. So if the pant's waist can wrap around ur neck, the pants will fit. I do this all the time.

Would love to see vlogs that show your approach to accomplishing something/problem solving. For example, dinner party for friends and a vlog where you show your approach to the menu and house and hosting and what you do and David does. Or a travel oriented vlog where you decide what to pack and style the outfits based upon what you will be doing. Or how you prepare for a work presentation similar professional meetings. And of course home decorating etc.

Ralph's only sells food stuffs and odd holiday themed sandals or sometimes a granddad t shirt in the holiday cards and candles aisle (a really small section), Walmart and Target is what is most similar in terms having both pretty good quality clothes as well as normal food in there, although of course Target doesn't have a full deli in, but they will have about 30-40% of what a full-on grocery store will have and cover all the basics you need nowadays with their offerings in store, good for students who often have one nearby in their college towns and can't store a lot inshared spaces.

This was really good. I toured Britain with my family in a camper van back in the 70s and Marks and Spencer’s was an absolute Aladdin’s cave for food. We don’t have anything like it in Australia since the David Jones food hall closed down, about which I was not happy.
I am sitting here having brunch and watching this wearing my Autograph knitted pyjamas. It’s winter here. I have had 3 pairs for over five years and they are so warm and snuggly that when I started wearing them I was able to turn the heating down 4C. They were expensive but they paid for themselves in reduced heating costs in the first year. You can buy Autograph through Millers in Australia.
We don’t have any M&S stores here but we do have a website. They only have clothes though.

I used to get the rotisserie chicken and the Greek salad and it was amazing. I still go to M&S every week though haha. Would love a Waitrose video!
Supermarkets in the US are regional, sometimes state-only (with the exceptions of Aldi, Lidl and Trader Joes - my hometown didn't have any of those until 2019 and the first Lidl in 2023!) so it's hard to compare.

Both of those are just grocery though, no clothing or home goods, etc. It looks as though it's strictly an online thing in the US with just clothing, but I would love to see one of their grocery stores here! Food always brings people together, then I saw you pan across something called " NY dinky dunkers",and lmaoooo, what's a NY dinky dunkers?? I bet even New Yorkers don't know, I'm from way out west in the Rockies,we have lots of grocery stores and options galore,no M&S which seemed like a target to me, but honestly I shop mostly Walmart,it's best bang for the buck and there's lots of organic options tbh,and they have many clothes that have gotten better over years-Sofia Vergara has a decent range, and I have lots of "generic" lounge pants that look like Lululemon &hold up just as well,if not better-- if there's some bougie organics or meats I do go to whole foods or Sprouts... I'm excited to hear you're going to visit USA...xx beautiful Sophie

I mix and match my food shopping between M&S and Sainsburys. Would love to see you do an Aldi or Lidl shop and show everyone the crazy middle aisle 😂

I’m British living in the states, we don’t have a marks and Spencer, is it only one store and where is it?

Grocery stores in the US are kind of crazy... there are two major parent companies that own about 40(?) different brands/chains that are very specific to certain regions or states. So, the grocery stores in California are completely different than the ones in Florida. For me in Illinois, I'd say M&S grocery is most similar to Mariano's. We don't have M&S stores in the US, but Target has been teaming up with them for the holidays to offer special treats, such as shortbread, chocolates and I think some Percy Pig candies! My favorite M&S thing is a Wensleydale cheddar and carrot chutney sandwich... it is so unbelievably tasty. Sorry for the long comment! It was fun to go along on your grocery shopping trip!

The US is actually so huge that most grocery stores (if any) don't exist from coast to coast. That being said I have no idea what either Marks & Spencers or Ralph's is like 😆 but that's okay I'm just imagining your average "grocery store" or maybe a Target since you mentioned clothes and food. Also 'sales slips' are called receipts where I'm from.

M&S has amazing ready made food. They made the only boxed sandwiches I like.

It would be a step up from average. It would remind of those local US chains you get sometimes that are bit higher quality than main nationwide stores but not quite Wholefoods level expensive

I don't know about Ralph's (I'm on the Eastern Seaboard). I've been to M&S in the UK...and the US doesn't have the M&S food/clothes combo.

Father’s Day in Portugal and Spain is on the 19th of March, St Joseph’s Day, since we are traditionally Catholic countries.

I like Rockit apples due to the small size. Unfortunately, my U.S. grocery store also stopped stocking Rockit apples. 🤷‍♀️ U.S. Fathers Day is June 16 this year.
