  • Speaker: Nandan Nilekani
    Discussant: Professor Danny Quah
    Chair: Professor Lord Desai
This event was recorded on 22 April 2009 in Old Theatre, Old Building
Infosys co-founder Nandan Nilekani, who has been a key player in India's growth story, argues that the country's future rests on more than simply economic growth. Only a safety net of ideas - from genuinely inclusive democracy to social security, from public health to sustainable energy - will enable the country to continue to grow and support the young people who have become one of its greatest assets.

I thank all the speakers for this amazing talk!
The ideas for a rising India are so thought-provoking. With huge availability of all resources required, from technology, manpower & good education system, I am sure my nation will achieve the heights very soon!

Thank You Nandan for such a wonderful, insightful rendering of your ( our) book .We got a ringside view about Indias progress, its achievements and challenges for the next 20-25 years.
We have such a wonderful opportunity to show our self-belief and courage to circumvent these challenges and move our country forward...
    Thanks once again

Don’t agree that Indians didn’t speak to each other before they learnt English and they didn’t know about liberty. Rest is pretty interesting.

How many incorrect predictions made by him. We are 15 years into the future from the year this video was recorded and in these 15 years the so-called demographic dividend of India could not be utilised. China and India GDP gap grew from two times to six times and India has become even more like it was before 1991 economic liberalisation and no Tatas and every other India conglomerate are fearful of international competition.

This speech in 2009 has too less relevance with the state of life in 2013. Nothing of what Nandan has said in 2009 is present in India.
