i really appreciate the passion that Nandan Nilekan has for India. He took the challenge of working closely with the government, instead of a easy corporate life. India really need's more of such people.
we need more good and passionate people in the government and politics. India is a gem of a country and it will keep growing and growing because of passionate and hard working people like Mr Nandan Nilekani.
    Thankyou Sir.

words of Nandan Nilenkani are quite effective. His concept of the ideas and the way he has linked it to the fundamental growth of the country is outstanding.
his vision of the changing ideas and changing state is marvelous. I prefer this video to be shown in every educational institution to multiplicate its effectiveness.
certainly it would help to bring consent among the natives and help us to manifold
    our productivity.

When he said 'we' he meant the Indian mindset... He probably means that Indian policy makers thought of a high population as a liability which needs to be taken care of.... but now, as he pointed out, since India now has (and will have for a few decades) a young population in an aging world, if they are properly trained and given opportunities, they aren't a liability anymore and can tremendously contribute to technological and economic growth.

India has a massive workforce. Instead of using them for menial jobs, agriculture & hard labour (like China is doin) if they could be gainfully & productively employed (each making $8-12K/year at least). Also in the rural sectors there is unlimited scope & potential. It is easy to increase income of people frm $80 pm to $160 pm even with basic jobs. And if tht happens, the growth rate will be much higher than 8% & also tht will be truly balanced development.

cities are the power engines of growth.because its here most of our economic activity is concentrated especially manufacturing and the service sector.and these power houses are grossly inadequate of the infrastructure both civic and physical. And that is the reason nilekani calls them as ideas in progress. that does not mean neglect rural areas...it is rural areas that run these power hoses thru the required raw materials...starting the chain from the most basic material FOOD.

IDEATION, is to move your first step forward towards success for the organization and the country in large. People are assets ....a capital should be cherished..be it human or financial capital...Youth is the next BATON which would lead to success for all the countries in the world. Cooperation is what all countries should feel about.

Mathew Tomas was mistaken when he thought India was like European nations, like, France, Germany, Sweden, Italy etc, have no chance, . Even these European countries would have done better if they adopted English. In India, which Language? No kidding. Please accept that today lots of our young people have jobs because they learn t English. Others are left out in the Cold. The likes of MT will demotivate youngsters from going up for partisan reasons.

the term human capital makes perfect sense. A nation can have everything, but if its citizens don't have knowledge to use the resources, that country will be the poorest. WE live in knowledge economy, and human capital is one of the country's biggest asset. That is y americans give good salaries to indians.... as indians immigrate, America strengthens their human capital.
Simple funda of immigration....acquire human capital from knowledge based countries.

@jadhavkapil its not about who is dependent on whom. If we have an opportunity we grab it. It goes either way. All I'm trying to say is India has long way to go. I'm not denying the fact that we have brains but just cautioning that they do have brains. When we have thousands of problems to fix like abject poverty, illiteracy, unemployment how much smart it is compare against a country which already solved most of these problems better than us.

Mathew Thomas Well Mr. Nilekani may be correct or he may be wrong, but I am more than over sure that India won't become a France or a Germany or a Sweden or an Italy by using Hindi/Sanskrit in next 100 years. At best it would return into its forgotten identity of snake charmer, land of black magics and god man! Besides, your south folks won't take hindi/sanskrit as a language. Your comments are better placed in a RSS or BJP forum.

In our constitution there is freedom of speech. One places ones comments where one wishes. The west is not something to emulate. Many Indians would do well to read some the nation's history. The brown sahib remains brown and 2nd class in white man's country, with or with $ to flaunt in village home, as Rajat learned to his cost.

commodity means an item that is traded or is involved in business (pretty much any product you see for sale is a commodity). Same thing goes with labor. People sell themselves for money (whether it be their skills, abilities or in some cases, their bodies) for money. Nothing wrong with commodity until people are treated the same way (which is unethical) .

Mr. Nilakeni provided a lot of insights on India. Most of them are true. His Aadhar initiative is really appreciated.
I have a different opinion on
    the Population issue. Disagree
with the rate of growing population would be seen as only ASSET.
Even China Communist Party hated the crowds and has implemented regulating mechanism long back. Our population is going to cross Chinese in few years from now. The population of this size can't handle any surprises like epidemics, Global financial Crisis. Manufacturing centric China is not treating population as only asset. How can India handle in future?. Chinese are also good at conveying English. Business leaders like you should rethink and suggest the best alternatives.
As per you, the derived idea from China doesn't encourage our alarming rate of growth of population.

you're not going to solve the problem of poverty by adopting a western model. adopting the western model is good for business marketeers like the speaker. at some point these kind of solutions grafted onto different cultures will leave them with rusting hulks, polluted and out of touch with their own past, their own sense of balance which will then have to be restored.
