  • India is on a trajectory to become the world’s third largest economy by 2027 thanks in no small part to its rapid digitalization, which is transforming financial services, commerce, healthcare and education. Nandan Nilekani, who is chairman and co-founder of leading technology company Infosys is one of the visionaries driving India’s digital transformation.
In the latest episode of Exceptional Leaders / Exceptional Ideas, Ridham Desai, Morgan Stanley’s Chief Equity Strategist in India, meets with Mr. Nilekani in Bangalore to discuss how digital identification and infrastructure are driving social and economic development in India.

Nandan Nilekani was one of great tech minds of India! But it is unfair to credit as if he is the visionary behind Aadhar. He is the head of the project and he should be credited for making the Aadhar generation framework and management system behind it. The proposal was on the table well before at the end of Kargil war and hence then many govt officers/offices were involved. So it is their vision and Nandan made a huge contribution to get this implemented! May be we can say he is the man behind the software and processes( to some extent.) Pls don’t misunderstand I am not against Nandan but at the same we cannot falsely give him sole credit! There are more visionaries in current gov who made sure it is well utilised & so we are here! Don’t forget the system was put on the table with no great use and was taking shape in snails pace in UPA times! Thanks to all including Nandan!

His Book Imagining India set stage for Aadhaar! Read it and we see his Vision. The team including Pramod Varma played major roles. Btw it is true, UPA was ovecautious while NDA let these free. Also to notice Nandan and team stayed more neutral due to which NDA also took it up. This is important to note! More power to you with DPI.

Now to grow our economy I think our government has to reduce taxes which is more than 12%.
In India indirect taxes range upto 28%. This make people to turn back from buying things and constructing things. For example tax for cement in India is 28%. This make construction of house miserable and there by people will construct no/small houses and there reduced purchases and reduced employ too.
