I love these little guys, they're like a super pissed off version of a turkey lol! I've got to imagine they don't taste very good or maybe there's not very many of them, because this would be the easiest bird ever to hunt!
Their numbers have been declining rapidly over the past century due to habitat loss, mainly. But people do like them as hunting trophies because they have such beautiful plumage. There are efforts to restore the forest that they live in and to reduce the amount they can be hunted so their populations can grow again.
On the contrary, not easy to hunt. And depends on age and season, what they'll taste like. Early fall and their diet is mainly berries, and they taste good. Winter when they change to pine needles it takes some more time to get the taste right and the pine resin taste out of it.
These little guys are much cuter than they want to be. I like their defiance despite that they stand no chance. It's charming. They remind me of Jack Russell Terriers, who are convinced they're at least 10 times bigger than they are. :)
Met one of these crazy rosters as a child, i was not as confident as you! This bird stopped dead as you left his turf. The rest of the year they return to live like a shadow in the pineforest, shy and hard to spot.
When those birds do their " Dance " They are " Weird " ! With the Shape of that " Beck " which is Similar to a Parrot's, it makes me wonder How Bad of a Bite, They can Inflict !
We have them up in Scottish highlands, yes, they are aggressive for a small grouse damn things are fearless haha and will not hesitate to charge you also they are seriously endangered you can not hunt them I dunno about other countries but here in Scotland I believe there is only around 2,000 of them in the pine Forrest

Oh my, I know we are all in agreement that Hozier is a forgotten forest deity but this video proves he definitely isn't the only one. What a lovely man/guardian of ancient forests, I hope he's doing well!
a magnificent and incredibly brave bird I had never seen until now it would be nice to have a breeding program because this wonder of nature needs to be protected
I'm very interested in this bird, it's just amazing, the colours and style.... keep watching videos of it, I like the males better.... make me smile 😃 😊

@@Shinzon23 Well, that makes sense. I had a stupid deer attack my car once. Its the same with them. Either they didn't mention that it was only during mating season or I didn't pay enough attention.
I can’t imagine they taste very well, or hunting them is illegal given their rarity. That’s probably why no one hunts them much. By chance, do you live in America? I know it’s random to ask, but that would probably explain a lot.

The bird makes a noise that sounds like an empty plastic tube.
The clicking noise is oddly enjoyable.
Lifes better when you love your job. This man clearly loves his job
Yeah. 😑
Very true!
I love how you just nabbed him, like "Ok come here!" and when you released him, he was like "You son of a b-" and came at you. Very cool!

@@slebbeog or just don’t eat them
they are endangered and are like 100 percent muscle so would taste like shit. font put the idea in peoples heads. also turkeys act like this too
It's a grouse so I imagine it's like a tougher pheasant. Definitely want to brine it and serve with gravy.

Despite how aggressive the males are, the colors on those feathers are easy to get lost in.
Males are always prettier 😏

Bird: square up old man
I think I just watched all the way from Australia the meeting of two old friends. your dedication is noted. NATURE THANKS YOU SIR
They remind me of turkeys a lot.
Beautiful birds. I’m obsessed
And like turkeys, they are delicious. Hahaha
At about 4 minutes thats balls of steel
What an incredible and angry bird! Thank you for sharing!

was waiting for a black van to pull up when he was putting the textile over the birds head lol
I just love these birds. So incredibly fierce! Good work catching him too, can't imagine that's too easy to pull off without getting beaten.
This is about Capercaillie dude yeah.
these birds are always ready to square up
Capercaillies are the largest of the Grouse family I think and not often seen, until now Eh! 😮
They are common in most of the coniferous forests in Norway, but you have to be out there to see them (!).
Is it weird that I wish this guy was my grandfather?
Not at all. He'd be fun to hang with, and he'd show you all kinds of secrets of the forest.
awesome bird

In Asturias (North of Spain) there are around 300 capercailles, here are called "urogallos", they eat "illex aquifolium".
Capercaillies are basically the bird version of honeybadgers.
Thank You for the video.

AN AMAZING BIRD!

Wow, this man is a pro!! 🔥
An Attenborough vibe for sure.. Need to check him out more!
Totally emasculated him and he was not so easily discouraged. As long as he thinks he won the fight in the end that's all that matters.
Så kult det er!
poking it with a stick lmao
So jealous, I would love to meet one
I made one of those in classic World of Warcraft. It's a battle chicken ! Red eyes , chasing people around like crazy , yep thats a battle chicken.

Can anyone Explains why these bird also turkey do this ??
Do jeito que procuram brigas atacando qquer um não sei como ainda a espécie não se extinguiu. Deve ser pela falta de predadores na região.

By only being this aggressive during mating season and being very shy and timid the rest of the year
