👍Nice old Ford! Looks great! My Dad had a dark blue 1981 Thunderbird similar. Many options. For Dads Christmas gift (approx 1988) I drove it to the muffler shop as it had some issues. Louder than he liked it. I had a new exhaust installed then to tire shop for 4 new skins. Dad was difficult to buy for :-) He couldn’t believe I did it. Hugs & thanked me like crazy. Great feeling for both of us! FORD had a terrible (Carter I think) carb on those 302’s! Even the new ones were horrible. Many welsh plugs to remove in attempt to tune. Vacuum lines everywhere. Problematic but he loved its easy steering (new rack and pinion too) the nice paint and it was pretty comfortable to drive. *Thanks for the video as it brought back good memories w/ my Dad!
    (RIP DAD, miss u terribly🙏)

It was rare because no one wanted it.

My parents had this car. I loved how smooth it rode. I was so mad when they traded it in for a truck.

When these cars came out they weren't too well received, but today when you see such a well preserved example they do have a Wow factor. First year of the big downsizing being 1980 with the 302 as an option and AOD transmission. These cars also had the tilt steering wheel, remote mirror adjustment ajthough manually, upper tier dash with various lighted door ajar warning, low fuel warning etc. along with the digital dash and clock. Very high tech back then.Along with the power windows and door locks they also had the power trunk release and probably as an option both driver and passenger lighted vanity mirrors on the Towne Landown in 1980.Did you also know that some of these cars were custom ordered and built especially for that customer and their name was engraved on a plague that was attached to the dash? A lot of cool and interesting things about these models most people have no idea about. Just thought you'd like to know.

Damn that's one clean tbird. those were pretty much disposable cars after 10 about years, very impressive to see one in that condition.

When the Thunderbird was downsized on the Fox Platform for 1980, styling cues from the very successful 1977-79 models didn't translate well to the smaller size. Those rims, as the gentleman correctly stated, are 390 mm rim size. They aren't 14 inch or 15 inch, and don't ask me how I know that. Believe it or not, Michelin STILL manufactures those TRX radials and were about the only replacement option. (I think Goodyear did manufacture a tire called the "Arriva" at the time that had a 390 mm rim size.) The V-8 came standard with the Heritage Edition Thunderbird, however for 1982 the only V-8 available was the 4.2 liter (255 c.i.d.) V-8; I had one and it was a real STORMER! 1980 was the first year for keyless entry (Officially called Securi-Code by Ford.) That car was on a 108-inch wheelbase that was downsized to 105.5 in 1983. That hood ornament is actually clear acrylic and is different from the other Thunderbirds of the time. I didn't think any of these poorly-built cars still existed. GREAT VIDEO!

1981 was the first year that had the keyless entry. My dad bought one brand new in 1981 Heritage edition.302, leather interior, and factory moonroof. My first car in 1988. What size engine? Brings back memories. Still available? How much?

I had an '80 base model. VERY comfortable seats, and a nice boulevard ride. I loved it but get it's unpopularity. (Rear seat passengers had little air circulation.)

Ahhhhhh memory lane! I had a 1981 Heritage edition - same colour. Not much different form that other than the odd trim piece. That car was the most dangerously comfortable thing I ever had.

The 1983 made the 1978 through 1982 look atrocious.

I wanted a bronco, my dad came home with that. I called it the box! I wanted him to donate to big foot to drive over! Hated that car.

My dad has one, it was completely in red, he sent it to a guy to get the colour repainted and there was a electrical fault with a compressor... Later that night the compressor caused a massive spark & the thunderbird went into complete flames. It's barely a car now. Sad.
