- 10.23.2021 | 5:15 AM | SAN DIEGO - The male victim was home watching TV when his brother came to the residence and was either intoxicated or under the influence of a narcotic.
The suspect went into the kitchen, grabbed a knife, and attempted to slash his brother.
The victim was able to avoid the slash and was able to take the knife away from the suspect.
The suspect went back into the kitchen and grabbed a large 8″ chef’s knife and again went after the brother.
The victim fled and called the Police.
The Police found the brother outside and would not comply by dropping the knife.
The officer spent 20 minutes negotiating and asking the male to surrender.
At the end, the male started to take off his shirt and was getting ready to fight when an officer shot 2 beanbags at the suspect and he went down. (8:54).
Officers took the suspect into custody and he was taken to a local hospital for any injuries he may have suffered.

Thank G-D the officers did not release the K-9. Assault of or the murder of a K-9 officer should carry the same penalties as a regular officer, in my opinion. Because of my opinion, the life of a K-9 should not be exposed to injury or death any quicker than a regular officer's life. The use of non-lethal certainly is warranted in this particular situation.

Given that he had repeatedly slashed his brother, and his unrestricted proximity to the Officers, he was treated very well, much bettet than may have been expected, given his increasingly aggressive behaviour.
Those bean bag rounds certainly took the fight out of him - thankfully - allowing him to be taken into custody to face action for his knife attacks on his brother.

Yes. it was used properly this time. Most departments shoot a round and even though there was no real effect, they dick around with another 20 minutes of negotiation before they fire another often ineffective bean bag. I believe it would be very effective if they were fired as close as consecutively as possible with little recovery and reconsideration time. Think of all the times where the dicking around ended up in ki ll ing of the perp.

Some people really just got some unrealistic expectations for cops. If they were in the situations that cops sometimes get into they’d be shooting the first second the suspect gets anywhere close to them. It’s easy to critique every move the cop does cuz they ain’t in the situation the cops are in. No matter how cops handle these situations now a days, someone has to complain, whether they were “pussying out”, or if they “used their police brutality” on them, it’s never enough for them. Just like court sessions. No matter what the judge does, people aren’t satisfied. It’s either they underpunished him for something that was given the perfect amount of time on, or they were too harsh on them because the people feel bad for them for some reason. There’s too much pity for unknown criminals now a days, but too much lighting towards the ones who are on news channels 24/7 and have stories about every little thing about them every day. Honestly if the cops and court system just handled the situation, and not the entire media too, then these situations would be much better handled.
Rubber bullets should be deployed more in situations like this unless a real gun is exposed perfect outcome ...

Police dogs are considered the police. If you harm their dog its assault on a police officer.

I’ve seen situations where police release a K-9 on a suspect with a knife and the suspect begins to stab the dog and police will not and can not shoot a suspect based solely on that. Only way they would be able to use lethal force is if the officers or any person is in immediate threat of death or serious/great bodily injury. To many reading this it might seem absurd because I myself consider my dog as part of the family but the law doesn’t.
