I know they said that Squadron 42 is "Feature Complete," but a lot of those updates sounded like adding features. I could be wrong, but that how it sounded.
Definitely a lot of work for what amounts to polish. Though it makes sense, like the bit in the email about mocapping more idle animations for typing and such, where a bridge full of people working would definitely look a little jarring if everyone was doing the same 4 or 5 motions. At the same time though, that's actors suiting up, recording sesh, animators doing their pass, making sure each character rig plays nicely with the animation, that there's no clipping within the range of things they can interact with... Definitely a slippery slope of tweaking even just in this type of polish.

‘Feature complete’ and ‘in the polish phase’ were PR phrases dropped last CitizenCon to placate the fanbase and sound like they’re getting close. It was designed to enthuse and excite, while showing nothing but yet another pre-recorded video of in-game footage.
It’s the oldest trick in the book to make people believe a product is almost ready for release at the same time the company is running an event to raise capital. It’s no coincidence SC and SQ42 seem to have most of the announcements right before and during CitCon

nah they going to tell us how they doing the 5th stage of polishing and we will see a more complete version this time next year during the 121th stage polishing getting it ready for the next year once its been polished some more. dont forget we need a few years to then final polish and then the commercial polish. and then the polish testing phase and then the re-polish

It is really hard to find but over Twitter I saw a video from right after last CitCon where Mark talked about SQ42 at a FanFest Event (which took place right around CitCon last year but obviously completely unrelated) and he talked about how Chris called him up and told him they were finishing of his scenes and needed some re-shoots to align with the new flow of the game. So we know from that: Mark was with CIG quite recently finishing/rerecording a few scenes (it didn't seem very in-depth as I think he said it took a couple of days so it can't be much). He therefore does actually know again that SQ42 does still exist and probably even saw a few scenes they already did when he was there (I don't think anybody would give up the opportunity to show their work to him directly)
Maybe they'll have a mission at Citizencon similar to how they did the Pyro playground, and at the absolute most I could see a beta going out, but I can't see it going live. I'll be surprised if it comes out before Q2 next year at the earliest.
Why does it feel like they keep repeating them selfs with some of these updates. I'm getting concerned that the project is getting that old it might have dementia.
I’m happy they are taking the time with polishing. The last thing I want is the game come out too early and a lot of people get the wrong ideas and accuse it of being a trash game after 10 years of development. I much rather they keep quiet though, instead of an updated tease every month… I want the game… but I don’t want it too early where there are several glitches and bugs.

A few years ago I decided to put squadron 42 on the back burner until I heard some good news. I'm hoping the convention this year will bring me the news I want!
Whilst the PU is for me the ultimate goal, I am so looking forward to SQ42 and hope it delivers the most immersive single player space jockey game known to man.
We'll see when ... but yes I m very hyped for SQ42 , it was for SQ42 I pledged , back in the day , when PU was only a vague concept 'if and when CIG could get funded enough'.
I have this feeling that at citizencon they will announce the release date of Squadron 42😀 for this christmas 😃, I feel something like that, I have such great hope 😄
I'm cautiously optimistic about the S42 release coming soon. While I'm more interested in the PU, the single player campaign will give us something to do when we go through content droughts.
I hope we'll get a release date this CitCon. I've melted my initial starter pack (which included SQ42) after hitting concierge, but I'll definitely buy it again.
heh, watch, at the Bengal Carrier event, people are absolutely gonna figure out how to steal props and set decorations, because theres always a few bad apples that ruin it for everyone
They need to get Squadron 42 out of the door, but also should make sure it’s as bug free as possible, because if they want the IP to succeed, they cannot afford a Cyberpunk 2077 type state of release. That’s why I think they’ll make the launch Q3 next year, to give themselves a lot more time to really get this ready to go. Although as Starfield showed.. it arrived in a relatively bug free state, but was still not particularly good in all sorts of fundamental ways, so probably could have been released a year prior.
I think the work being done with AI in 42 will pave the way for implementing AI crew in the PU. It sounds like we will have this sooner than later. I wonder what date Zin would put on that going to the PU?

This has nothing to do with you but I have to ask, am I the only person who really doesn't care in the slightest about Squadron 42? I am only interested in the Persistent Universe side. I'll be perfectly honest and say that the package I bought does include Squadron 42 however, I don't really expect I will ever play it because I grew up playing single player games in the 90s and early 2000s and I really don't care to ever play another single player game again again. I don't mean this so as to s*** on anyone that is excited for it, I'm actually pretty happy that there are people that may be excited for it. I just wonder if I am alone and not being excited in the slightest for squadron.

Sq 42 has enough big name actors to be a digital interactive AAAA game if they get it right, which is why they are taking their time with it.
Any progress on SQ42 is good but until there is a release date announcement, I'm not devoting any time to thinking about it.

I’m super excited for Squadron! I think it will give us a good idea what to expect from CIG in terms of their idea of 1.0 release quality for SC.

I really expecting this to be one of the best experiences of my life. I've waited for almost half of my life for this game to come out.
