    Combo amplifier. Great versatile clean channel. Great lead channel. Awesome reverb. Built in attenuator with clean channel bypass. Channels are footswitchable. This might be the perfect amp.

    I’m fashionably late to the party… but just got the Cornell Romany 12 and am totally blown away how awesome a smaller tube combo amp really can sound… leaves my other amps to collect dust… so I’ve been looking at a good reasonably sized combo amp to pair with it and sort of recently been looking at this amp and it has really caught my interest… and if I may say so… this video has one of the finest intro melodies I’ve heard. Thank you for this 🙏🏻

    Very clean and teasteful.
    Always luv’d every Tonk King, that I’ve had the opportunity of playing through.
    Very responsive, warm, I could go on...
    If I didn’t have some amazing Fenders & an AC 30 for “cleans” and my Marshall 1987 & 2204 for my
    crunch / lead sounds, I’d have this amp! It really is awesome!
    It’s such a tasteful amp that does a lot correctly. I may have to part with the AC30 to justify owning one, but then last nite their manufacturing and warehouse (Soladano, Friedman, Wampler, Egnater, and others were affected too) had burned to the ground :-( No one was injured (thankfully), but it may be a while until we see some of our favorite amps... Or, the ones available are going to be “super” priced, beyond most of out reach?
    Wish these guys all the best and hope we see them recover quickly!!!

    @Shawn Tubbs I just bought one and was wondering what your opinion is on the rhythm channel's treble control. Mine doesn't seem to do much (not nearly as wide ranging as my 1966 Deluxe Reverb). Is that just the way the amp is designed or is my treble control faulty?

    • @ShawnTubbs
      @ShawnTubbs  2 года назад +1

      The treble control on the TK has a softer upper mid in comparison to a 66 D so it may seem that it's less "apparent" in nature when you sweep from off to full. If your TK treble control isn't doing what the treble control did on the amp I used in this demo, there could be an issue that needs to be looked after. Here's the marker. 3:46

    • @ShawnTubbs
      @ShawnTubbs  6 лет назад +1

      Wow not a simple question my friend. ;) It depends on what you want. The Redplate is louder and runs 6L6 tubes and it's huge sounding with big bold Fender tones. The Tone King runs on 6V6 tubes and sounds really sweet and silky and isn't so loud and on to or that it has a built-in attenuator. They're both killer!

    The idle hum seems to be very high

      The "idle hum" you're hearing is actually based on the fact that I'm sitting right next to the amplifier with my guitar. That "idle hum" is actually coming from the pickups in my guitar and not the amplifier itself.

      Cool. I bought one. The last in germany. It sounds awesome. Best money ive ever spend. The reverb is far from fenderland but is is ok. The tone is very special when turned up. Needs a little volume. At least at 4 . Then it sounds awesome.

    I’d like to see and hear a average, commonly used instrument, like an American Fender, or a Mexican Fender guitar to hear what the pick-ups sound like..because most folks can’t afford a PRS like this, and I can’t help but feel like a lot of the tone came from the pick-ups used here….most folks won’t be able to afford both a high end guitar and a high end amp….so a fair pick-up comparison would be better….With different guitar models commonly used….

    HI.. Shawn,, I have got my Imperial in Germany .. I played one gig in a Club and I was really dissapointed. I use to use vibrolux reissue...I sounded more open and took AT plus or Box of Rock better than Tone King.. Can you tell your oppinion ? Thanks

      It's hard for me to give an opinion. I think you should do some more shows with it in different rooms.

    It's a good demo, but nobody ever explains the mid bite control properly. It's not a midrange control. Think of it this way - mid bite all the way off gives a squishy, Fendery, tweed Bassman type of distortion. It's "bluesy" and sloppy, in a pleasant vintage way. Mid bite all the way up gives a tighter low end, almost no squish, more pick attack, and more gain. Like a JTM 45. You do NOT get more midrange in either direction. If anything, the low midrange is "warmer" in the all the way off position. The mid bite control is misnamed, really. It should probably be called simply "bite." Also worth noting, the premp tubes cannot be driven into distortion, even in the lead channel. All the distortion comes from the power tubes. That's why there's no effects loop. Disclaimer: I own a 20th Anniversary Imperial.

      The "mid-bite" all the way up will give a perceived "tighter low end" because there is less low end and a pronounced upper midrange peak. "More pick attack" is perceived because it is brighter in the upper mids. "Almost no squish?" I'll agree to disagree on that point but yes you are correct and as I stated, "there is more gain." Any low wattage 2 6V6 tube-driven amp that relies on power amp distortion will have a noticeable amount of compression or "squish" especially when you crank it up. This amp doesn't have a gain and master volume control so I think you and I are on the same page. Yes, you are correct. An FX loop in an amp that relies on power tube distortion is useless. No disclaimer necessary Mister Shredd. Thanks for your comments.

    Combo only? That's a dealbreaker for me... I have no interest in combos from any brands! Sorry Tone King...
