      This mod reminds me of command and conquer generals : zero our. In that game there were 3 main races but with the zero hour dlc they added 3 variations to each of the races, making 12 total armies to choose from and each played quite differently. Always made it more interesting when even though 2 players were playing the same race, they still had a few differences in their upgrades and units

    People don't remember this but the last patch before the Brood War expansion came out was a balance patch that nerfed Scouts and Wraiths ground attack rate. Air units were so imbalanced in original Starcraft 1 that you could just go Wraiths or Scouts and win with hit-and-run tactics. There was a guy named Blacklizard who would use Scouts and shield batteries and just run back and forth killing the opposing player's economy. He played against another pro player who knew what he was going ahead of time and built nothing but I think Goliaths and the developers watched their matches over and over again and nerfed the ground attack of both Wraiths and Scouts before BW launched. That nerf, plus the fact that Corsairs, Valkyries, and Devourers were put into the game, basically made Scout and Wraiths bad.

    • @Akumasama
      @Akumasama Месяц назад +2

      Wraiths are still useful, because they're fairly cheap, fast, and they're good vs air. Scouts, though....

    • @IcariumGaming
      @IcariumGaming Месяц назад

      @@AkumasamaScouts unfortunately due to the nerf for ground damage, and the introduction of a proper air superiority fighter, made them obsolete.

      @@IcariumGaming they are just incredibly expensive, its not that they are not a good unit, but if a unit is 275/125 and requires fleetbeacon for speed upgrades, ain't going to cut it.

    Mass Queen in BW is the reason why no one plays mech terran vs zerg nowadays, even tho mech transition was the meta for decade.

  • @mobiust708
    @mobiust708 Месяц назад +4

    "Corsairs have tiny splash damage"
    No, they have large splash damage lol. The reason corsairs are good was because of the bisu build. Until that build, zerg had a massive win rate against protoss. Then a pro player by the name of bisu started a build running dark templars and corsairs. Corsairs were fast enough to chase down all zerg air units, were bulky enough to survive 1 scourge hit, and dealt aoe damage in a significant area which ate up mutas. So what bisu would do is use corsairs to kill or chase away as many overlords as possible because they were detectors and would supply block his enemy. Then he would send in DTs into any area not watched by overlords.
    Corsairs aren't the best at all, but rather they filled an oddly specific niche against zerg. They are sometimes built against mech terran because a single disruption web hitting 2-3 tanks could turn the tide of a small engagement, then they could go off and try to run down a science vessel.
    EDIT: Hold up... did you say dragoons sucked in BW? Tell us you never played BW without saying it XD. Dragoons were quite literally the primary unit of nearly every protoss build in BW and have had some obscenely amazing results. There was a pro player who held off a marine rush with mostly a single dragoon and a shield gen. That dragoon got 20+ kills! Dragoons were also able to outrange bunkers. So early game, you could start applying constant steady pressure and force the terran to rush into a tank instead of expanding. If dragoons had better AI in BW, they would probably be considered the single best all around unit in the game.

    Maelstrom doesn't affect burrowed units. And Corsairs do deal splash damage, though low, its attack is significantly faster than Mutalisks. Disruption Web is a great anti-static defense spell, giving Corsair a neat ground utility. DWeb also stops all ground units from attacking while under it. Just like Psionic Storm deals damage to ALL units.
    The Dark Archon has really long range for its spells. Mind Control alone has a reach of like over a screen's worth, provided there's vision.
    SC1 High Templars don't have an attack command, so while MC may F2 his whole army, High Templars will get up front with Ultras every time.
    As a fun fact, the Defiler's Dark Swarm completely negates all range damage to units inside. You read me right, ALL range damage to units, not buildings, is mitigated down to zero under Dark Swarm. The Infestor's spell that is intended to do the same pales in comparison. Microbial Shroud is no where NEAR as good or strong as Dark Swarm, simply because it cuts by half the damage received from air attacks only. Defiler is the most ridiculously broken spellcaster in both SC1 & SC2 combined, even when SC2 Infested Terran was still in the game.
    Basically, what I'm saying is that SC1 spell casters are actual support units, rather than central to any end game army that's worth anything. Like, you'll never see 200 supply worth of Science Vessels, or whatever. It just doesn't work.

    • @matth1005

    Dragoons would be the de facto counter to anything armored. 20 damage per shot and 2 of them cost as much as an immortal. Which is 40 damage instead of 50, but you do get longer range and anti-air with it.

    • @conelord1984
      @conelord1984 Месяц назад

      And they have a lot more range. The only thing is that you need some big meatwall, like archons, to deal with sc2 ultra splash.

      I am a bit confused... Just the comment is written like there is another unit vs armoured that protoss could use?

    If you think SC1 pathfinding was bad, try playing WarCraft 1, you send your army across an empty field with one tree and somehow tewo units will get stuck on it. Also, you could only select 4 units at a time. Anyway, to me SC1 looked space age, in terms of how many units you could select at once and how good the pathfinding was 😂

    The one saving grace for sc1 shield batteries are that they can multitarget shield restore and that they restore much more shields per second. The only downsides are no auto-restore and very fast energy drain. Also no overcharge and you can right click batteries with units to restore shields.

    • @Leonhart_93
      @Leonhart_93 Месяц назад

      Shield batteries are always useful on some level. Even if the SC1 ones are far less convenient, they still provide a way to quickly regen units between battles.

    I think an easy counter to reaver drops is static defense... If two reavers can kill 500-1200 minerals in a few seconds... I think it is worth a few to prevent the constant drops.
    Seeing reavers get dropped on the same bases repeatedly and thebplayers don't do anything different, using the same tactics as they would a widow mine drop...

    • @machaiping
      @machaiping 29 дней назад

      Actually, for SC1 Zerg you just park a few Scourges around the base. They can two-shot Shuttle with their kamikaze attack. Granted you have to replace the Scourges afterward, but they almost guarantee that the enemy don't even get a chance to drop Reaver at all before their Shuttle get kaboomed, unlike static defense that usually doesn't have enough dps to kill Shuttle before it dropped Reaver.
      But at least said static defense can draw Reaver's fires giving workers a chance to evacuate if the other player's micro isn't perfect and quickly tell Reaver to hit the workers.
      Also, Scourge is a good counter to teleporting Battlecruiser that SC2 Terran use too. Because the huge alpha strike the Scourges cause making them unable to teleport away before getting shot down. And SC2 Terran Battlecruiser also traded huge alpha strike one-shot attack of SC1 Battlecruiser for a sustain laser barrage which makes them unable to stop the Scourges from crashing into them too.

    • @mwperk02
      @mwperk02 Месяц назад +2

      @@chrislangton4662it's not because they are massive units. Mind control works on every single unit in the game besides the mother ship because it's heroic and sc2 ultralisks because of the frenzy passive which renders them immune to all stuns, slows, roots, and mind control abilities. This includes maelstrom and stasis from arbiters meaning sc1 protoss have zero tools to deal with ultralisks as dragoons still hit like a wet paper bag against them and get destroyed by the ultralisks splash and every other zerg ground and air unit besides corrupters. They lack the necessary bulk of immortals leaving archons as the only unit capable of tanking any damage for the protoss army. For the same price dragoons also deal way less DPS than an immortal.
