However most are jerky on coming to a full stop which is annoying, except for the Ioniq 5 and all Tesla cars which a perfectly smooth and refined. The Tesla one pedal system is the best in the industry and a joy to drive.
Colour choices very limited but I think I read that Alpine will introduce a new distinctive colour every year. The four being offered at launch are probably the continuing base palette colours. I like the grey but the practicality of keeping the matt finish looking good puts me off.
I had a keyring wallet for my fob when I had a Renault Kadjar and the fob was identical to the one fir this car so there are keyring wallets you can put them in.
7:08 The key is a rebranded standard Renault key, the same as for my Megane. There is a silicone cover with a key ring loop or a hard plastic shell cover with a key ring attach, ent if you want them. Otherwise, yes it is annoying that the fob is so large and has no loop/slot/way to attach it to something. My fob ends up living in my laptop bag.
the key is probs like any other renault key, so you might have to slide it up, so you can put in a little attachment like I've done with mine, so I don't think its a big issue.
If your saying it was either this or cup holders you have simply messed up your design. Really three buttons you could have as one anywhere and have a drinks holder. Just lazy as from the design team and it does look fantastic but that’s a bit thick if you as me on the drinks holders a lot of people use. We have had five MINI’s - two currently on the drive that we’re both ordered split new. The Clubman is getting replaced by a split new Range Rover early next year and My Hatch i’m waiting for something like this. The Cooper SE with sports pack is £43k and that’s just too much for a small car to make sense. Yes a nearly new SE can be had for £36k with the sports pack. I’d take this Alpine six months to a year old and taken its depreciation hit and under £30k 👍 Brilliant by Renault and I never thought Id want a Renault that’s for sure, nothing wrong with the brand just found the Cars a bit bland. But full marks for this pity it’s a limited run.
Can't imagine why you'd need a place to put a cup while you're driving. You're sipping from a drink while driving? What next, a fold-down picnic table on the steering wheel? A built in commode in the driver's seat in case you need a piss?
I can see this happening on the public roads (noone is going to a track) Drivers trying to pull >1G around roundabouts and sharp corners = accident waiting to happen.
Wonderful, great job by Renault, Renault is at the forefront of French and European automotive industry. I only have one problem with this one. It should be called Renault 5 RS. Or Renault 5 (by) Alaine. It is still a Renault, just properly tuned up by Alpine, unlike Alpine A110, which is not part of Renault line-up. That's all, really.
Why do Renault/Alpine have to spoil perfectly good looking cars with bits of child like add-ons? The car would look fine without the X's and the square bits at the front. It surely can't be an aerodynamic benefit and rally additional lights were round, not square. Style over substance. And why not just have a bonnet without a hole, instead of a hole that does nothing? As for the red lever, just why? However I do like the wheels, none of those horrible looking flat bits or gaudiness, like on the R5. I also like the upholstery and would prefer that on an R5 as that horrible grellow finish just isn't to my taste. Cupholders I can live without, I did so in the first dozen cars I ran and I do like the gear buttons. Yes they could've used a round disc like many others, but it's OK. Overall a good car, spoilt by (sorry to say this) 'gob-ons'.
I'd have gone with cup holders myself, maybe stuffed the wireless charging somewhere like the hole under the armrest. [edit: Maybe there'll be an aftermarket doodad that will slot into that space and give you a makeshift cup holder when you want it? I'd rather have somewhere to put my drink if I have to choose.]
Overtake button is devolutionary. Just give me that power with full throttle and if you cannot supply it for longer than 10 seconds, back it off starting at 7 seconds, gradually. The button just reminds you every time you sit in it that it can't sustain max power. Playstation generation designing cars, which isn't a positive.
A small hatch that weighs 1.5 tons? Crazy. Big wheels sap the range yet again. The red ov button looks like a bit of packaging that has been left behind. Lastly those X shaped lights look naff. Why leave the plastic lump on the bonnet when on a cheaper model it has a function?
Awesome "racing" EV, that has the looks. Can i say . . .finally? 1 little thing . . . . when someone parks a bit to close to the drivers door . . . how do you get into your seat, with that blocking middle concole?
Seems to be a great little sporty EV but what is the point of the red overtake button? Surely you just press the accelerator with your foot which is the most instinctive thing any driver will do. I can't imagine anyone or at least hardly anyone would use that button.
They will push that button and overtake 101km/h vs 100km/h… So… does not help. Best are those that drive 110km/h… start overtake… reduce speed to 101km/h and increase speed after overtake back to 110km/h… 😂
@@haukikannel I believe that button will make sure they'll "step on in", instead of gently pressing the throttle. Some people don't understand they need to speed up to overtake
@ That button does not push the pedal. t just allows more power… if you push the pedal! Otherwice it would be dangerous! I am in trafic light… ups… i did push that red button! ;) So ofcourse it does not increase speed automatically. You still need to push the pedal to get the speed.
Every manufacturer needs to swallow their pride and copy Hyundais N division and make BEVs FUN in aural and virtual gearboxes! How hard can it be??? It's not ALL about handling! Cheers 😊
Honestly, I love the look, I love the numbers, and love the design. But not having cupholders is just such a bonehead move that makes all the other practicality useless. Choosing to do three large buttons for the gear select at the expense of cupholders is the kind of design decision that you'd expect a 5 year year drawing a space ship to make: might look cool but it's impractical.
NO CUPHOLDERS! why? styling over substance & function is annoying! you've ditched a small but crucial day to day use element in the center console ,please find a piece of free real estate somewhere in the cabin and fix it, it shouldn't be that hard
@@DeadlyDizzle-yn1vz And...no ! The problem is that you are supposed to be able to react in case in emergency ; how can you if your hand is not free ? I don't know where you live but due to increase in accidents, regulation have been made and it's become "illegal" to eat or drink while drinving so you can be fined. And that's normal, a car is not a toy. I hate cupholder in a car.
@ you are not always driving when consuming a drink, you may be stopped, may have a passenger, may want to store a drink for consuming later at work/home etc. In the UK, eating and drinking is not illegal and a tea or coffee while driving is common practice so a cup holder is an essential.
Why would you put that key in your back pocket? Who even puts keys in their back pocket? If you sit down thats not comfy at all and any key can bend and break. That key fits in your front pocket, jacket or bag like all keys. Weird remark
The comment was the key is slim and without a keyring, maybe designed for a back pocket in mind. I genuinely don't understand why that's an issue for you.
The exterior styling is cool but I don’t think the interior looks premium. Perhaps they’re going for minimalism but aside from the wheel looks a bit basic to me. Particularly in front of the passenger, cheap office furniture vibes.
Great-looking car but disappointing bhp...only 219. If you're gonna pay $10k more (at least) for the Alpine badge on a Renault 5, you want, at least, 250bhp...but more like 300bhp so it can be an EV competitor to the Gen2 GR Yaris.
I am stunned by the amount of comments directed to the lack of cuo holders. Are you all so addicted to take away cups? But a bottle with a lid & stick in the door pockets. Problem solved & planet saved

I'm gonna move out soon, there's absolutely no way I put my feet in a suburban place, thank you. I want my local bakery, associations, restaurants, friends and places to hang out close to me. Most touristic resorts are reachable by public transit btw in the country. Not all though are well connected to trains, but when you go in family holidays, than you take the car. And it's the copilot who deals with water and all XD. The cupholder is basically used for keys and as a bin sometimes and that's it.
@ where will the co pilot store the water? You also forget people may sit in the car when it is charging at a service station and want to have a drink. There is no place for the bottle unless on the floor or the rear of the car. Enjoy your new scenery wherever you live 👍
So Renault joined the club and soiled the Alpine name. Have the designers run completely out of ideas nowadays? Could we also agree not to call it a gear selector. An EV doesn’t have gears. It is rightfully a direction selector.
The Renault 5EV should be available as a 5, 5 Turbo and the full spice 5 Alpine, similar to the Ioniq 5N. This is just a Lukewarm Hatch not a proper Hot Hatch.
Problem is an Alpine as straight line powerful as a ioniq 5N seems like out of character overkill. But these are very disspoingly underpowered and wrong wheel drive. At best they should make the Alpine version 320hp with LSD about the max FWD can handle. These are not like VW ID.3 and Cupra Born which are rear motor RWD. In the electric era Hatches should be RWD as there is no major cost problem.

They will push that button and overtake 101km/h vs 100km/h…
So… does not help. Best are those that drive 110km/h… start overtake… reduce speed to 101km/h and increase speed after overtake back to 110km/h…
😂
@@haukikannel I believe that button will make sure they'll "step on in", instead of gently pressing the throttle.
Some people don't understand they need to speed up to overtake
@ That button does not push the pedal. t just allows more power… if you push the pedal! Otherwice it would be dangerous! I am in trafic light… ups… i did push that red button!
;)
So ofcourse it does not increase speed automatically. You still need to push the pedal to get the speed.
@@haukikannel what I've seen on other reviews, it's like pressing the throttle, for a few seconds... Unless they were making fun of it
@ As I said… That would be dangerous and in most countries illegal so… I really doupt! It is just small time increase to awailable top power.
1:08 „I haven’t even driven it… I found it like that in a hedge.” 😅
"We`re really not here to talk about the interior or the exterior, are we?" She says while doing it for 10m. :)
There is ALWAYS something to nag about... This time, it´s the cup holders... Oh well... What is it going to be next time around I wonder?
It IS a car review, right?
I know theres recycling, but re using the key from a Renault craptur. For nearly £38k I'd expect something a bit more gucci than primarni
Finally the Alpine A290, is it worthy replacement for Hyundai i20N my pocket rocket 😍😍
Damn, now want one, but if comes to Australia it will probably be overpriced. Like Cupra Born 😢
It won't come to Australia. Renault is represented in Oz by a inept importer.
Every manufacturer needs to swallow their pride and copy Hyundais N division and make BEVs FUN in aural and virtual gearboxes! How hard can it be??? It's not ALL about handling! Cheers 😊
100% they do not need to do this…….
@ world wide praise on the epic ioniq N you’re in the 100% denial 😂😂😂
PS HOW CAN YOU GET SO EXCITED ABOUT IT?
Honestly, I love the look, I love the numbers, and love the design. But not having cupholders is just such a bonehead move that makes all the other practicality useless. Choosing to do three large buttons for the gear select at the expense of cupholders is the kind of design decision that you'd expect a 5 year year drawing a space ship to make: might look cool but it's impractical.
the link coordination is not really shield s thing is it
NO CUPHOLDERS! why? styling over substance & function is annoying! you've ditched a small but crucial day to day use element in the center console ,please find a piece of free
real estate somewhere in the cabin and fix it, it shouldn't be that hard
you shouldn't be drinking coffee while driving. I daresay there is space for a water bottle in the doors
@@Autotrawler1it’s not just coffee people can drink while driving that is held in cups.
Cupholders so last year!!! 😉. Its a drivers car not a Chelsea tractor.
Gorgeous car.
Why would you put that key in your back pocket? Who even puts keys in their back pocket? If you sit down thats not comfy at all and any key can bend and break. That key fits in your front pocket, jacket or bag like all keys. Weird remark
Why do I get the feeling this woman is not really into cars?
@Luke-PlanesTrainsDogsnCars she is into cars and has a CV that matches and backs it up, but her remark about the keys is just weird
@@Luke-PlanesTrainsDogsnCars not into cars, do you even know who Nicki Shields is and what she does for a living... honestly!
@@crjeanes I expect more than a cutesy presentation.
The comment was the key is slim and without a keyring, maybe designed for a back pocket in mind. I genuinely don't understand why that's an issue for you.
Even though every other company fits cupholders, we can't do it. - Alpine
No baguette holder either 😂
@@apb3251 Not even a vase on the dash...smh
Car brands put cupholders in a car to be able to sell those cars in the US.
The exterior styling is cool but I don’t think the interior looks premium. Perhaps they’re going for minimalism but aside from the wheel looks a bit basic to me. Particularly in front of the passenger, cheap office furniture vibes.
Looks great
It’s as gorgeous as you Nicki
No thanks. Fugly af X-shaped headlights utterly ruins the car.
You don't like impractical poser design features? 😊
Top trim A290 has less hp and slower than a base Volvo EX30. Alpine really stays true to their F1 heritage isn't it: underpowered
Thee Ex30 base model weighs 1830kg, this weighs 1470kg. Their 0-60 is almost identical, but this will handle way better.
Great-looking car but disappointing bhp...only 219. If you're gonna pay $10k more (at least) for the Alpine badge on a Renault 5, you want, at least, 250bhp...but more like 300bhp so it can be an EV competitor to the Gen2 GR Yaris.
Nice car. The more variety in EVs the better.
I am stunned by the amount of comments directed to the lack of cuo holders. Are you all so addicted to take away cups?
But a bottle with a lid & stick in the door pockets. Problem solved & planet saved
Have you noticed thr trend for folk to walk around holding a cup of coffee. Don't know if there's any coffee in the cup😂😂🎉
Bottle of coffee? Yeah cos that’s a thing….
@@willlodge5386 Take reusable thermal insulated bottle .. pour coffee in ...voila. Do you not understand?

@@SamSzulman a solution to a problem that didn't need to exist 👍
Wind noise over 60mph is disappointing.
Only modern car that looks good
I have never ever used a cup holder in a car. Then again, I'm not a w⚓ who turns up at work with a coffee in my hand.
So you’ve never done a long drive and need a water, can of coke or coffee to hydrate you on the journey? 😮
@@apb3251french here and hum... tbf, no, and neither did my parents. If you do long travels, it's in family. If you're alone, trains are more often than not less expensive where I am.
@@marcbuisson2463 trains do not take you to the house you live in or hotel/house you visit. Most people all around the world even those that use trains drink water in their cars
@apb3251 Actually they do take me home where I live :>. And to school. And to work. And to most destinations we have to go alone (aka in a professional context).
Yep standard Renault key, it's been that way for what feels like 100 years 😂
tbh i just hate the X's on the front
Uh, the video got translated by AI from original language to german. How can I see the original? This version is fun-sapping
Nooo! Although also quite funny? I’ve always wanted to speak another language… apparently now I can? Weird!
@ no Nicki, believe me: you don‘t want to speak that kind of german…. Btw: I managed to hear your original pleasant voice 😀
not enough power imo... they should have given the GTS atleast 100hp more and 4.xs 0-100 time... 170 top speed? GL on the track...
The R5 Turbo version would the 180BHP version of the Alpine A290.
Too sports focused with a lack of practicality. I’d take a Renault 5 (in funkier colours of yellow or green).
Great looking car but too much piano black plastic on the interior and more importantly exterior.
She wanted to like it, because Electrifying needs this to be a thing. However, the more experienced road testers who are not exclusively committed with elecric cars, claim it is still not a driving pleasure tool, and I think that's quite evident.
