And now Lebby just got clobbered by Toledo. He's definitely not coaching MSU next season. Hell, he might not last to the end of THIS one. Who thought he was a good hire again?
I’m usually in agreement with your takes in this series, but this take is just ridiculous…. 1) After 1st down, the play clock is only 25 secs, not 40. 2) They scored in 1 play on their LAST DRIVE. 3) Saving the T.O, allows for 6 secs, yes, but it also allows you to CHOOSE when the 25 second clock runoff happens, either 2nd, or 3rd down. Save the T.O on 3rd down and guarantee more time on the clock before the punt. Lebby didn’t screw up over 6 seconds here. If it was 20+ seconds, I’d agree because that’s almost a full down worth of clock runoff, but 6 seconds? It’s not that consequential if you call it before, or after the 2minute TO. (All this coming from an ASU fan, so no bias)
Not to mention that no team is lining up and snapping it in less than 6 seconds if the roles were reversed, especially on 1st down. Save the T.O for after 1st or 2nd (or even 3rd) down, and give your guys an option to sub out, and an extra breather to gear up to stop an obvious run… what happens the on this immediate 1st down? They ice the game anyway, so holding a TO looks worse than it was, purely because you didn’t get the stop in the first place.
Just looked at MSU's schedule and they face Texas and Georgia back to back ad close against the Vols, Mizzou and Ole Miss. Lebby might not be around next season regardless.
If you were going to bring back JG7, you’d have a great dumb decisions video from tonight’s Cubs-Dodgers game. Counsell called for a double steak down 2 and one out in the ninth and a pitcher struggling to throw strikes. It did not end well
Man, wonder if Miss St should've went with a coach with HC experience such as a Jamey Chadwell who's currently at Liberty and is a winner at Coastal Carolina or GJ Kinne who's doing well at Texas St.
This is gonna keep on happening this season, especially to head coaches with no pro football coaching experience. It's not like pro head coaches, especially longtime vets such as Sean Payton, making this same mistake when they should know better.
What is it with coaches and bad clock management? Did they smoke crack before the game? Edit: As for historical College Football dumb decisions, how's about a coaching hire (which I mentioned in a stream): Gerry Faust hired at Notre Dame. As for historical In Defense Of: Going for two and the win instead of settling for a tie (Nebraska against Miami in the 84 Orange Bowl; Miami against Notre Dame in the 88 Cathloics/Convicts game).
I guarantee you Jeff Lebby was not doing the math in his head required to figure out that he could get the ball back with 5 more seconds to work with. And even if he did it would've taken him 5 seconds to make that calculation anyway. Instead of all that math, just realize it's better to call timeout before the 2 minute warning instead of after. Then again, college coaches in general don't seem to be grasping that simple common sense concept yet.
I'm a firm believer of having a time management specialist on the coaching staff and it's someone who plays nothing but Madden or EA CFB.
It wouldn't surprise me if that was what's happening with the clock mismanagement.
My first thought of this is college coaches dont know the 2min warning exists now snd automatically assume game is practically over under old rules?
Love the vids
UNLV-Kansas end of the first half is even worse clock management.
A lot of college coaches just don't understand making the best use of the two-minute warning. A lot of them will figure it out eventually.
JG9, I'm convinced you paid the coaches to do this for free content. ;)
The coaches should be paying HIM to be a clock management consultant TBH.

When ASU got the first down the game was over anyway. The 2min warning management is going to happen in college two its seems like.
I feel like most of the guys who play Madden or NCAA could teach some of these coaches fr
Did you see Wisconsin’s dumb decision with kicking a field goal against Alabama?

As a State fan, this game was hard to watch
