  • would this make a good zombie apocalypse knife? Maybe, but the aluminum caps on the end can't handle too much abuse.
    It's still a pretty tough blade and the rest of the handle done great.

    Thank you for doing this test. At nearly $200 this certainly isn’t a cheap knife, so giving it a really good beating like this is something most reviewers hesitate to do.
    I’ve been considering buying a 124 for a long time. Been carrying my 119 for many years, ever since I bought it when I was 16 years old. I know the limits of my 119, and it serves me well. Wasn’t sure what the 124 can take, but this video definitely shows it can take more than I expected. I’m extremely impressed with how well the tip held up under that sort of abuse.
    After seeing this test I went ahead and bought myself a Buck 124. Paid for the fastest shipping so hopefully it’ll be here tomorrow.

      It surprised me as well. It's actually pretty tough and the tip is definitely stronger than I anticipated.

    You hit the pommel with a hammer wich would deformed the aluminum against the Steel cross pin that's why it's loose, not the drop.

    ….every test in this video was a gross abuse test in my opinion you can’t ask for much more from a knife…knives are made for fine cutting…the idea you did this entire test without leather gloves blows my mind one hell of a knife test sir…good to know you did the tests so I don’t have to…my buck 124 and 121 will remain razor sharp for gutting/butchering and at the most maybe chopping or carving

  • @dennishein2812

    You used to be able to hammer a Buck knife through a bolt. It would chip the blade but not break it. Their logo used to be a knife cutting through a bolt I believe on an anvil. That is some serious knife abuse. Always have liked Bucks. If your knife can’t open a can of food throw it away. I never carried a can opener when I went camping. I just relied on my knives. It probably isn’t loose as much from dropping it as it is from pounding on it with a steel hammer.

I don’t know, I may buy another just in case I mess the first one up. Glad to see how well it held up. You certainly put it through its paces.

    Great video. About time I see someone that doesn't treat their pretty knife as a safe queen. It basically means you're mature enough to know it's just a tool. And tools are to be tested and used. Any lumps or bumps they get are simply character that tells a story. I've seen knives people had for 50 years. Nothing special. Just shiny. And they've never been used. I say if that's what you want to do with it. Buy jewelry or a painting or something that has no other use, than just to be looked at. If not, you're wasting a perfectly functional knife that someone else would have loved to have to use as a tool. Just my opinion.

      @@MrRottman43055 that just means those groups are only about form over function. Not the other way around. I’m a country boy. So I don’t give a damn how pretty a knife is. If it’s gonna break as soon as i try to use it. That’s why i like my buck knives. They are really nice to look at. But i use my knives. So they have their scars of use. But they didn’t break. So those scars of character look pretty darn nice to me. Because it proves the pretty bucks are also tough. Which is the only reason i own them. No safe queens at my house. They all earned their place in my home.

      They are fun. I guess you’d need to “test” a large number of knives with a control. Have someone repeat it. If I was rich, had the video cameras, editing software and the ability time and desire to do it I probably still wouldn’t. Ya they are really just fun. It’s good to dispel myths and let people know you can do things with the knives, they aren’t just works of art.

    • @johnhildenbrand2642
      @johnhildenbrand2642 Год назад +6

      @@MrJoshDoty I own the very knife in question, and it's definitely a user, but there is exactly zero reason I would ever need to abuse it this way. Knives are tools with a specific application, you can do some things outside of this like minor chopping, prying etc that it wasn't really meant for, but if you end up lost, or surviving a plane crash, or whatever wild "what if" situation you prefer, respect your tool, and use your head, you'll be glad you did.
