  • A long slog across Cyprus!
    In this scenario, the new BFFs Thoros and Reynald must conquer the island of Cyprus from the Byzantines, defeating their navy along the way. There is a lot to this scenario, so be prepared for plenty of fighting on land and sea.

    I say taking the right side is while challenging more rewarding
    Blue will be destroyed by the Navy if they're on the right side but on the left side they will be able to deal with green and cyan all by themselves

    Having tried both, I have to say that picking the west base felt way easier than the east one on this map. Early naval attacks were much more of a pain to deal with on the east one

      So I picked west and focused on a navy, which turned out to be a mistake. Reynald died and though I destroyed a bunch of Byzantine docks, the land armies overwhelmed me. Next I picked east, focused on land, saw Reynald benefit/contribute from the easier start. Was fun!

    So a little advice coming from my own playthrough regarding next missions achievement.
    First i thought you only need to save the villager on the first part, however succesfully doing that and playing through the mission you do need to keep them safe throughout the whole missions which kinda sucks as i had to redo it.

    In my experience when i first picked west and Reynald east, Reynald was overrun by the byzantine fleet as he doe not seem to fend off the fleet very well. When i disrmbarked in the east, Reynald was a little more safe and could focus more on plundering and not having to worry about an overwhelming Byzantine fleet on his coast.

    I took the Western base and actually migrated over to the South West land of the map. It's isolated from Green and Teal, so it's easy to keep your eco from being ever touched and you can trade with Red to get lots of gold. Instead of having to beat the scenario with trash units, you'll have lots of gold units to play with.

    I disembarked on the east and even though I had difficulties fending off cyan, green and both landing parties and navy of purple, Reynald started killing green and cyan by himself, but if he goes east he dies for sure since he cannot deal with the navy at all.

    Ok, this one was difficult. I really struggle with scenarios in campaigns that involve both balancing fighting soldiers/carvery/siege engines and having to dedicate a proportion of your population towards a navy. I chose the right side and will try the left the next time as I was consistently attacked, especially with enemy transports embarking units, but eventually got there. Had my navy on the defensive while focusing on taking out Nicosia and Limmassol before I simply attacked with a full force of Navy to destroy the docks.

    If you're struggling with this mission, one way to make it 1000% easier is by picking the western base and then going even farther west lmao. I couldn't fend off purple's ships and the land attacks by green and light blue so I packed up my shit and left. If you make your new town center and production buildings on the edge, the enemy boats can't get you.
    Use Red's castle as a shield until you have a substantial force. Plus by working your way down and clearing out purple's shit, you can free the yellow captain who gives you free Spies. There's also a second relic.
    JUST make sure you buy all the castle upgrades before it gets destroyed, mainly the boat one to make your galleons beast. I also took 2 trebs in my transport ship to pick off the buildings. I'm guessing that's the pussy way to do it but.... it worked lmao. I rebuilt my whole fleet and had like 50 boats and dromons and wrecked their docks.

  • @erkocab

    Tried both sides and found success on the eastern side. I found that Reynaud not only survived but also helped out against the Cyprus cities (and two of the Byzantine docks near his base), allowing me to concentrate on a naval campaign against the five Byzantine docks nearby, whilst knocking off some of the locals to gain resources. Also it seemed that the placement of the castle on the eastern side actually protected the northern side of the base.

    This was a strange campaign, i picked the west. I really enjoyed the start, but after wiping out purple navy to the south and surviving the first attacks on land, this level became a boring slog. Not difficult, it just took time to defeat every enemy.

  • @618Delta
    @618Delta 8 месяцев назад +7

    I personally find this mission kind of clunky. It's supposed to be a mission where you raid on land, but the ultimate goal is to destroy the enemy's navy? For my part and for the sake of the achievement I picked the West half and did my best to basically ignore navy until I'd destroyed everything on Cyprus, then I deleted my army, built a navy and destroyed the Byzantine docks. It was really easy at that point and almost felt like an afterthought.

    • @KroM234
      @KroM234 8 месяцев назад +1

      Yeah, not fond of the design here. Personally I went for the opposite: settled east, and defended all game with fortifed churches, TCs and a couple of pikes+composites, it was enough to beat back any land attack. Meanwhile I rushed almost minute 1 the byzantine navy, rampaged all their docks in no time using the galleys, I didn't even noticed there was an achievement then, so I might actually replay it.
