Liveman was originally supposed to be a three-member team through to the end, until the producers realized it was the tenth Super Sentai show since the franchise's revival with Battle Fever J and they wanted to do something special. Thus, Black Bison and Green Sai were added to the team mid-series.
The actress that played Megumi was also the star of another program I think called Stepsisters, which I think she had done three years prior to joining the cast of Liveman.
Fun Fact, Flashman and Liveman became the FIRST super sentai shows to come out in South America, even before PR, (Flashman in 1986, and Liveman in 1991) Liveman had a spanish dub made in Venezuela, that was surprisinly faithful to the original script for the episodes i watched. Here's a link of a clip, if anyone is curious: watch?v=wIgzWFkcQFI

@@TokuAndAnimationNewsNetwork Before I downloaded all of the fan subs on shoutfactorytv I watcehd ZyuuRanger, DaiRanger, MegaRanger. OhRanger I own the dvd boxsets for Hurricanger, KakuRanger, TimeRanger, Jetman, GoGoFIve, CarRanger, GaoRanger, and the only one I haven't watched is Gaoranger. Then of course in Liveman we have the bad guys betraying their friends/rivals and fellow students so they take it upon themselves to go after their friends. Might not have as good character development than other series but the stakes are personal. Right now I would say it's probably a tie between Flashman and Maskman, but Liveman is really growing on me.
Watching Liveman now and Live Robo looks like Voltron. Hell, he even feels like Voltron in live-action formation than Daizyujin/Dino Megazord did. Daltanious was originally going to be Voltron but you know the whole deal. Live Robo does the whole Blazing Sword thing better than DM imo.
Just finished watching Liveman. My first 80s and Showa Era Sentai. I agree with many of your points, but I wouldn't say Liveman was average. It had strong pros, but some really crazy cons too. I can see why you gave it three stars. I'd have given it three and a half, maybe four. Good: Core Team: They were all great. Red was a leader I'd put my faith in, Yellow is that tough guy friend I'd like to have, and Blue? She was my favorite. Megumi: Excellent character. She saw the good and potential in others, great in a fight, and I liked her attitude (and not just her attitude). She's my new favorite Blue Ranger in all Sentai Villains: Liveman had some great villains. Especially Bias (I wish we knew more about his past), Mazenda, and for the few parts he had, Gash would have made the terminator proud. I loved how he was hunting Mazenda at the end. Story: I liked the plot and it kept me entertained. Dark Origins: Liveman really didn't mess around. Definitely the darkest sentai I watched so far. Opening Song: It was catchy. Next to Timeranger's (Especially the English Version) Liveman had my favorite opening. Bad: Episode 31: Holy Hell, I think you could do an entire episode discussing how bad this one was. I think this one scarred me. On one side, as a father of a 2 year old, if my little boy was killed like that, that'd have been it. I wouldn't stop until all the villains were dead. But at the same time, this episode was so badly written. Guy gets pregnant from an alien, but the aliens were actually robots...so how does this even...? That's only the tip of the iceberg. No contest, the worst episode I ever watched in Sentai. Your advice is definitely worth following...SKIP THIS EPISODE! Black and Green Rangers: Two words to describe both of them: Useless and Annoying. I never liked the Brat Rangers (Bouken Black, Lupin Red, etc) like Black was and Green reminded me of the whiny younger brother that you wanted get away from. I thought the show's quality actually dropped when these two were added. Heaviest Plot Armor: These guys were invincible. Stabbed, shot, blown up, burned by flame throwers...and they weren't even morphed as rangers Pacing: Literally one scene they're about to get finished off by a bad guy and the next they're back at the base analyzing the fight. Melodrama: Lots of it and way over the top. A giant butterfly dies and the entire team cried like it was the worst thing to happen.
It is an older review, but Saban had claimed a ton of my Sentai reviews so I've had to edit a thing out of them and reuploaded them. I've still got to reupload Kakuranger.
Love this series. Loved how this series had at its heart showcasing the positives and negatives of science and technology depending on how its applied and by whom. I loved the character of Colon, she was so sweet and devoted to helping the team and served as a great polar opposite to Dr. Mezda or whatever her name was. Dr. Bias was definitely a very fiendish villain the way he used people. I wasnt crazy about the way things ended because it seemed like the bad guys did themselves in and Liveman had absolutely nothing to do with the downfall of Volt. The thing with Bias becoming a kid was just pointless. I loved the central conflict was very personalized because its one thing to fight against an enemy but quite another to fight against your friends. I loved how Megumi is so far the only female blue ranger in Sentai history to wear dark blue for her outfit, whereas every other female blue ranger to come afterwards wore teal.
Volt's downfall being brought upon by themselves was to showcase the tragic irony of how geniuses abusing their intellect for evil is foolish and self-destructive. The Livemen in the end were heroes who only foiled their every scheme, and even tried to reach out to their former friends turned villains. What adds to the ironic tragedy is that the Livemen even tried to talk them (including Bias) into turning away from evil, but almost every one of them kept refusing until it was too late.
Oliver Hurt that's all well and good, but it's not terribly interesting for your main heroes to just stand there with shocked expressions as the villains implode and not at least try to do.... ANYTHING!!
I did not know that the Blue liveman Rangers name was the same as her actress Megumi Mori/Megumi Misaki but the pink ranger in season 2 or 3 of Power Rangers was cat short for Catherine Sutherland and Andy Griffin was his real name just like the character I guess when people run out of names people just slap the real name on their character name
Just finished rewatching Liveman a few days ago, after only seeing it once YEARS go. I would most certainly give it 4/5 Stars for the villains alone, and because every episode (yes, even bloody Vega Baby) focuses precisely on what the show aims to do, right down to their name: Show the value and the beauty of life. Every episode was entertaining and taught its lesson beautifully, imo. The only 2 things that stop Liveman from being a masterpiece, imo, are: 1) Junichi and Tetsuya. They were an unnecessary addition to the perfect chemistry of the original 3 and only took away more potential development from them. Heck, I even loved Guildos and Butchy thanks to their heart-wrenching twist. That certainly could've used more build-up to make it much more impactful. 2) We never really learn who Bias really is. The final arc does all it can to be outstanding, but the mystery that surrounds his identity and which goes with him as he dies comes off as frustrating. The only thing thay I can maybe think is that they wanted him to be a vessel to say that any genius can go astray and lose his faith in humanity or have his ego grow so big he wants to become God if he has the chance, but even that wasn't really how it came across. Anyhow, sorry for the darn long comment. This is the first of your Sentai reviews I watch and I will most certainly look at them to see what I should watch next!
Green and Black seem to be disliked across the board so I'm glad I'm not alone in that regard. I'm glad you enjoyed my review and I hope you enjoy the others whether you agree with them or not.
@@TokuAndAnimationNewsNetwork Kemp because he’s the most developed with Mazenda a close second, but that’s mainly because her full costume reminds me of Kujaku from Dairanger.
Best foot soldiers indeed. Havent seen any that are as strong as they are . To the point they could attack you even with a cut head and arms. Cool look also
Prior to Liveman, both Daisuke Shima (Yusuke Amamiya/ Red Falcon) and Megumi Mori (Megumi Misaki/ Blue Dolphin) were already established celebrities. Daisuke Shima was a member from rock band (dunno the group's name, 😞) and famous to his song Otoko no Kunshou (Badge of Manliness) that was synonymous or a national anthem to delinquent high school boys with a pomade hairdo during late 1970s to 1980s. Megumi Mori was a singer and a actress prior to in having in Liveman as stated from a reply I read in the comments. There was a video of her singing, the title has the Tokyo on it. Let me look for it.
I agree Liveman is with Bioman & Jetman for me the 3 best sentai series ever. The new ones after the 90's really don't do anything for me. They try too hard to do epic battles but they're all about fighting and violence. Plus the vilains strike and strike and strike the heroes so quick you can't see anything. I like to see a show where I don't end up being epileptic at the end.
@@TokuAndAnimationNewsNetwork Not really, overall I liked every single bit of the show, but I do remember that episode where a dinosaur bites the ass of someone and the next day at school talking and laughing about it with one of my friends. Good times.
Now that I think about it the Morpher in Liveman is like the zeonizer they cross their arms when they transform with the toys but then again Turboranger And Jetman changers are similar to press the buttons on the left and right side of the arms if that makes sense
Speaking of Predacons, both Green Rhino and Black Bison may as well be Ranger ver. of both Headstrong and Tantrum considering the 2 like to butt heads with each other but Black Bison is a lot more hot-headed. Hehehe. I wonder how Yusuke is able to keep this team together by the time ep 30 came around. What a wild team. Hehehe.
Well it's been a while but I have finally have finished watching Chouju Sentai Liveman for my Super Sentai marathon. And I honestly really don't get it because this to me was simply a fantastic season especially when compared to all previous 11 season prior to it as It's now my new favorite from the showa era. I really enjoyed the Hero team and I really like how a lot of them are tied into the villains with Colon possibly becoming one of my new favorites. And Prof. Bias may just be my favorite main villain of Super Sentai so far as the actor gives an incredible performance and I like how he isn't as mad or angry like the previous main villains and I rather like how twisted he is towards his fallowers such a how he was willing to make up 2 robots to be aliens just so that the others could get better at there grades and all so he could gain a new 1000 point brain. I don't know why but I just really like it for how out there it is. Not only that but this season was also a lot like Bioman in how it's a very dark season but it still has some of the same lighthearted humor you would expect from a sentai season. And I especially like how nearly every episode delves into aspects of life so much so that I found nearly every episode to be memorable, even the episode in where Junichi gets perennated isn't my first, second or even the 3rd time in where I see a male character in this situation and I though it was handled a lot better here when compared to the previous ones that I've seen. I and I honestly can't believe that this season came out the same time as Emperor Hirohito’s death as it just seem to be a major coincidence for a season related about life came out as that event happened. Now don't get me wrong I wouldn't say that the season isn't completely great or perfect, nor would I say it's my absolute favorite, as I still don't like how short and repetitive the mech battles are, the main characters still remain mostly the same as they are at the beginning, and there are some ideas or things that don't make a lot of sense but that really isn't anything new as these issues have been present for almost every previous season so I'm not really too bothered by it. But what I am really surprised with especially when view in all 12 in chronological order was how outside of a few exceptions the show has managed to improved in small but in various different ways such as the action, to the designs, effects, introducing new concepts that would become staples in future seasons, and finding ways to deepen the story and characters all while tying into the seasons central themes. so much so that it's only made me appreciate the changes more in hindsight. And I'm really glad that I'll finally get start the era when I was born the Heisei era starting with Turbo Ranger. Thanks for continuing to review these shows!
@@TokuAndAnimationNewsNetwork That's a real toughie as there where a lot of episodes that liked. But I would say my most favorite was the 3 parter that Introduced Tetsuya, Junichi and Live Boxer since I really like how there reason for fighting is to avenge there death of there older siblings and them realizing that they have the same goal as the Livemen and they would join them as the new memebrs which I already like why more then any previous new members who just kinda show up outa no where. I also really like it for the action since it easily has the best mecha battles in this season and how it was also the first to introduce 2 mecha forming into one with Super Live Robo.
I personally found more enjoyment and was more invested watching Dynaman, Changeman, Flashman and Maskman. Flashman is literally my 5th favorite sentai season. I definitely don’t hate Liveman but after they introduced Green and Black along with the 2 alien villains, it really lost me as I just thought they added nothing to the show. At least when Sentai added villains in those previous seasons they felt like they added to the show. Another thing i noticed when I watched Liveman after seeing Dynaman through Maskman prior was that it didn’t really have any episodes that wowed me really. The best episodes were when they focused on them at the academy but since they blew up the academy in episode 1, they could really only show it in flashbacks which is unfortunate cause it could have really add to the show and make it feel more unique then your typical Sentai series
Kaiju no Kami Ah tgat makes sense I just thought they where trying to do it cause you know the whole land sky water based rangers also apparently it was like low ratings or something that's why they added the two new rangers
This was the first Sentai that I've watched online, Choujuu Sentai Liveman. It's fantastic. It's just like Ninpuu Sentai Hurricaneger. I would love to see Shout! Factory to released Choujuu Sentai Liveman: The Complete Series on DVD. That would be awesome.
I could not get into Go-Onger at all when it first aired. I've been meaning to give it another shot, but I think I might just wait until Shout! eventually gets to it before I do so.
Well that opening was.............something. That's like a throw away joke or even an actual joke that would be on The Simpsons. But I found what you put on the end funny because I act the same way with my stuff. Well I look forward to the up dated version with the Shout Factory DVD's.
@@TokuAndAnimationNewsNetwork You know there's something you forgot to mention in this. One forgot to say that Liveman was the last of the Showa era series of Sentai.
12:00 At least you have the Weird Al "Jeopardy" remark. Oh and you should know that Nick's Double Dare is back. Their is an element of Japan styled Game Shows on that one...BABY!!!
This sentai was amazing I wish it would’ve been adapted into Power Rangers. If I could pick any sentai from the 80s to be adapted into Power Rangers it’s liveman I could see it working very well with American audience
Liveman would definitely had worked as a PR adaptation, though, they would have had to be really creative with the fight footage considering how many times they fight the Doctors in human form.
Initially I wasn't impressed with Liveman but I continued to watch I found myself enjoying it more. The Land / Sea / Air motif felt like it was borrowing too heavily from Sun Vulcan and not doing much to stand apart, until I noticed the changing villain roster, even incorporating a random guy who hates smart people joining Bias alongside the two "aliens". And Buchy's design is magnificently humorous - it reminds me of many of the designs from the Gorenger era. Colon feels like a definite upgrade over previous robot mentors such as Peebo and Mag, who were OK when it came to support, but Colon often dives headlong into battle to bring in weapons or pilot a Mecha. The escalation towards the end of the season was a welcome piece of writing. It felt like Bias had a plan all along, above and beyond the expectations of his unwitting victims / generals. The visual effects also showed some evolution, from the basic wireframe outlines used initially to the seamless looking ranger transformations later on, where the rangers seem to appear from the superimposed visual effects without making the surrounding action pause or stutter. Pretty decent for the mid to late 1980's. I particularly like the wireframe on the Biomotion Buster. It's no Flash Cannon but I still really like it. The final episode was interesting - Gush, missing an arm, takes Bias back to the Brain Base and tries to start the main engine. As the place starts to explode, Bias asks what's going on. Gush tells him it's fireworks and people cheering for him, which Bias believes in his delirium. At this point Gush knows Bias has lost and just tells him what he wants to hear, wanting to keep him happy even if he can't give him a real victory. And for all his idling on the Brain Base, Bias manages to achieve his goal of ruling the Earth, even if it's only for a few minutes. The music is a standout masterpiece. I liked Denziman's opening theme for how 80's it was, but Liveman's music was 80's through and through even if the synth had evolved quite a lot in the intervening years. I'm looking forward to watching Turboranger soon. I've missed Masashi Ishibashi. AHAA!
Till this day i still do not understand the point of Black Bison and Green Sai, Tatsuya and Junichi were completely pointless characters (Green Sai tried to have his moments but Black is such a nothing character with Zero crap to be deemed memorable). At least Hant and Gunpei had personality in Go-Onger despite Gunpei toning down into someone sillier (Still loved Gunpei though but Bison, Hell no).
I honestly didn’t mind Black Bison and Green Sai when watching this season. They’re weren’t great, but at the same time they’re weren’t offensively bad. They were just your bland and boring additions to the team. If you want infuriating or pointless green Sentai, look at Hammie (Chameleon Green). She had little to no focus on her character. Just relegated to being annoying.
I don't think they're offensively bad, I just feel they didn't bring anything to the table to warrant their existences necessary. Totally agree on all of the characters from Kyuranger being useless though.
I just finished watching Liveman a second time. I barely paid much attention to it the second time around but still some good stuff but lots of repetition with the zord fights. My favorite episodes were probably the first episode (it got pretty dark quickly when the bad 3 shot the two and killed them) and the episode with Butchy and the karaoke brain monster. That song that girl played has such a great melody to me. Love the ending theme song. Fighting! Fighting! Go go liveman! Jumping! Jumping! We are liveman! I’ll concur with you 3 out of 5. First time was a solid 4 but since it barely had my attention this time around it’s 3 out of 5. One of the better Sentai in the 80s because some were real boring to me to watch through.
That's kind of the experience I had. Liveman was my first 80s Sentai so I was completely enamored by it when I first saw it. However, watching it again for this review, it wasn't as special.
@@TokuAndAnimationNewsNetwork I’ve seen quite a few of your reviews after I finish sentai series (I’ll be doing Turboranger next month). I always enjoy your reviews!
I still think that even with some of this show’s less than desirable moments that Liveman is an absolutely fantastic show with well written heroes, villains, plot, and themes. Just ignore green, black, some absolutely awful filler episodes, and the finale and you’re in for an absolutely fantastic show. 4.5/5 G.U.I.S for me. Favorite episodes being 23, 32, 35, and 37 all of which are episodes that focus on Yusuke and Kemp’s development.
almost every episode had a new monster their were a couple of episodes without a new monster it was interesting they had so many human villains tho it is kind of annoying they always have most of them change their ways tho the leader stays the course the rangers are interesting tho they still leave much to be desired
Me: opens a kaiju no kami sentai review Opening: a aha its time to get weird up in here Me: ah shit here we go again. (No this is not a insult its jus a joke just incase
This piece from Gustav Holst's magnum opus The Planets inspired The Volt's theme music 18:12. It actually also inspired The Imperial March for Star Wars which also got a parody of sorts in a future Sentai which I will not name here but the Kami knows since that his all time favorite one. ruclips.net/video/AGGlL1wexQk/видео.html
6:54 I didn't mind this use of Bias, since hightlighs how much of abusive monster he truly is and how he manipulates Kemp and the others. This is also why the whole score makes no sense. It's just a tool for Bias to take advantage of his followers insecurites and push to create new creatures and experiments. This also helps to make Kemp and the other students into more tragic villains, since it shows how, despite their talk about "we gave up our humanity to become genius" they are still just kids, trying to impress their mentor figure, unlike Liveman, who all grow up and become scientists.
@@TokuAndAnimationNewsNetwork Had to throw in a Liveman reference. The opening statement in the title sequence. Kenji Tsukigata/Doctor Kemp, Rui Senda/Doctor Mazenda, Goh Omura/Doctor Oblar all chose to go with Great Professor Bias...who proved to be a devil of sorts. Turned on Kenji so he would be young. Oh and I have two words for you. GIGA PHANTOM!!!
I do agree with how you feel about the pregnant with an alien bit. That is so gross and I think it's the only Super Sentai episode/moment that makes me feel so grossed out.
Deadly Grim Reaper Gash... Guardnoid Gash is my favorite villain despite the vastly wasted potential usually making monsters grow also Gash could have been in a final battle with the livemen besides going one on one wish Yusuke instead of the dumb Electric Brain Beast. The Darth Vader of Super Sentai Also where Gash busted through two walls like the purple emmi in Metroid Dread. GIGA PHANTOM!
Later female blues would be cyan colored (before Kyoryuger gave us the first canon cyan) except for Saizo from Kakuranger due to his meek/feminine personality. Japanese cultural differences you know.
@@williamhowe1 I was born in 82, so I did live the decade, but it's the poor writing of the Sentai shows that make it hard for me to get into them. It's probably because a lot of the shows I watched first were from the 90s and early 2000s, so I expect to have my rangers and villains fleshed out along with not having a mech battle be placed in every episode.

They just did and then when I explained in the dispute that this series was never released as Power Rangers Saban rejected it saying they still own the footage.
Liveman and hurricanger is the same thing Because they have 3 rangers And the robot is a bird lion and a dolphin and they add 2 new characters and robots and the villains get new characters
It really depends. Sometimes I do if there is no way around it, as was the case with Bullblack and the female Shinken Red, but I sually don't feel the need to do so.

This show could have been excellent if Soda wasn’t playing mad ‘genius’. There are some seriously great plots that are detailed with love for robots or stag beetles… and the show will take a full 5 minutes to push the point. Damn… shame because it’s great otherwise. Highly recommended.
I liked episode 31 what’s wrong with it for its time the plot was dumb yes but interesting I don’t really like live green but I looked it at as werid and disturbing how the child just got killed and not wanted to be aborted I still liked it tho
@@TokuAndAnimationNewsNetwork No Ideal, NO IDEAL!!!!???? BECAUSE GASH AND THE GIGA PHANTOM ARE REALLY BAD @$$'$!!! Make those punks duck as they grow their brain monster and bring down the fear among those stupid multicolored clowns. And in the finale Gash was angry that his master was defeated and dying, so that was his best GIGA PHANTOM!!! Out of all the techniques to grow monsters on both Sentai and Power Rangers, Gash and the Giga Phantom are the best.
For me the episode where Junichi is pregnant is hardly the worst. The worst to me is the double-episode where a kid befriends a baby dinosaur. Oh God. I hate and always skips those two ! For me not only it is the stupidest Liveman episode but it's also the stupidest sentai or metal hero episode I've ever seen as a whole. :(

@@TokuAndAnimationNewsNetwork You review is spot on. Though the mid 80's - mid 90's of the Sentai franchise is my favorite era because of nostalgia and its grittiness, they're usually episodic in nature and it seems that at those times they were not putting much effort in giving their series proper, epic endings.

I like liveman I think its overrated people keep saying it the best sentai in the 80s but it has problems which makes it second to flashman black and green suck the villans only do one day each and are poorly written and the mech battles are boring but the theme song slaps a listend to an English cover of it and it was good

Right now I would say it's probably a tie between Flashman and Maskman, but Liveman is really growing on me.
Unlike Sun Vulcan this is not a sausage fest.
Heh heh heh...
ironic since the villains in that show was mostly female
Watching Liveman now and Live Robo looks like Voltron. Hell, he even feels like Voltron in live-action formation than Daizyujin/Dino Megazord did.
Daltanious was originally going to be Voltron but you know the whole deal. Live Robo does the whole Blazing Sword thing better than DM imo.
I can kind of see it.
Dispite about what you said of Gildos and Buchy you were probably surprised about the tragic sendoff the show gave them.
Yeah, it was interesting.
Just finished watching Liveman. My first 80s and Showa Era Sentai. I agree with many of your points, but I wouldn't say Liveman was average. It had strong pros, but some really crazy cons too. I can see why you gave it three stars. I'd have given it three and a half, maybe four.
Good:
Core Team: They were all great. Red was a leader I'd put my faith in, Yellow is that tough guy friend I'd like to have, and Blue? She was my favorite.
Megumi: Excellent character. She saw the good and potential in others, great in a fight, and I liked her attitude (and not just her attitude). She's my new favorite Blue Ranger in all Sentai
Villains: Liveman had some great villains.
Bad:
Episode 31: Holy Hell, I think you could do an entire episode discussing how bad this one was.
Stabbed, shot, blown up, burned by flame throwers...and they weren't even morphed as rangers
Pacing: Literally one scene they're about to get finished off by a bad guy and the next they're back at the base analyzing the fight.
Melodrama: Lots of it and way over the top. A giant butterfly dies and the entire team cried like it was the worst thing to happen.
Liveman was my first Showa Sentai series too. I loved it a lot more at the time than I did after having seen other Showa era series.
congrats to you on 200 Videos 😀 Am Very Happy for you 😀 Great Video
lol
Damn I thought this review was old but it’s super recent lol I love liveman and This review😭 new sub
It is an older review, but Saban had claimed a ton of my Sentai reviews so I've had to edit a thing out of them and reuploaded them. I've still got to reupload Kakuranger.
Kaiju no Kami oh ok well nun the less I still enjoyed this review can’t wait to see what’s to come 😊
Sounds good, glad you enjoyed it. I'm currently working on Timeranger. Plan to film the review on Monday.
Kaiju no Kami nice :) I can’t wait 😊
I can't help but agree with the whole thing revolving around Bias.
ANYTHING!!
@@bobbyshaddoe3004 suit yourself.
I did not know that the Blue liveman Rangers name was the same as her actress Megumi Mori/Megumi Misaki but the pink ranger in season 2 or 3 of Power Rangers was cat short for Catherine Sutherland and Andy Griffin was his real name just like the character I guess when people run out of names people just slap the real name on their character name
lol Or it just happened that way.
The only 2 things that stop Liveman from being a masterpiece, imo, are:
1) Junichi and Tetsuya.
One of my favorite shows for costume design (Ranger & Villain plus the robot).
Who was your favorite villain?
@@TokuAndAnimationNewsNetwork Kemp because he’s the most developed with Mazenda a close second, but that’s mainly because her full costume reminds me of Kujaku from Dairanger.
Best foot soldiers indeed. Havent seen any that are as strong as they are . To the point they could attack you even with a cut head and arms. Cool look also
Yeah, that was one of the best aspects about them. Plus, I do like the mohawks.
0:07- Oh dear lord! XD
I did not know about those. That's pretty cool. Thanks for the info.
I love the ending theme of Liveman, cause the melody strung my feels.
Makes sense.
Don't agree with you. This is an amazing show, a bit dark but on pair with Jetman.
Nothing wrong with that. Sadly, I liked the show a lot more the first time I watched it than I did when I watched it for this review.
I prefer it over Jetman.
It was really popular in Spain. I loved it, it brings me back so many good memories
Did you have a favorite episode?
@@TokuAndAnimationNewsNetwork Not really, overall I liked every single bit of the show, but I do remember that episode where a dinosaur bites the ass of someone and the next day at school talking and laughing about it with one of my friends. Good times.
lol
Juichi’s alien kid dying was the one time I cried for its character as a child 🤦🏾♂️🤦🏾♂️🤦🏾♂️😂🤣😂🤣
:-)
Kaiju no Kami 😂🤣
Now that I think about it the Morpher in Liveman is like the zeonizer they cross their arms when they transform with the toys but then again Turboranger And Jetman changers are similar to press the buttons on the left and right side of the arms if that makes sense
Live man is one of my favourite seasons from the 80’s
Nice. Who was your favorite ranger?
Just heard of the liveman 2 volume dvd release date for Dec but not sure if it's an official American release like the previous shout factory releases
I'll have to look into what you are referring to. Thanks.
@@TokuAndAnimationNewsNetwork I saw it in my Google updates from tokesatsu (sp) network I think
my favorite 80's show, by far
What's your favorite episode?
@@TokuAndAnimationNewsNetwork Well, none in particular, I always look at series as a whole.
Surprised that RUclips didn't age restricted this yet, especially what was shown at the start of the video.
That's because my account is set for not being for kids. Plus, it's not like it was a real penis.
I do find it interesting that Land Lion's design just screams Predacon Razorclaw. And in a way that's pretty damn badass.
Wow, you're right, it does resemble Razorclaw. lol
Hehehe.
Takuji and Mari are special heroes known as Unalivedmen.
Huh?
@@TokuAndAnimationNewsNetwork Because they're no longer alive.
I'm glad you enjoyed it quite a lot. Which episode would you saw was your favorite?
Question why did they try to do the sun vulcan thing
You mean with 3 rangers? No idea. Probably just to keep the cast numbers down, especially since they had 5 ranger teams for the last few years.
I would just love for Shout! to release more Sentai in general.
I haven't seen Liveman. However, I rented 'Engine Sentai Go-onger'. I like it a lot.
I could not get into Go-Onger at all when it first aired. I've been meaning to give it another shot, but I think I might just wait until Shout! eventually gets to it before I do so.
Kaiju no Kami I do love 'Geki Ranger'.
love that shows intro song
When will you do Turboranger?
This was my first super Sentai
It was my first 80 series. What's your favorite episode?
11:31 I agree he could have done more, but I love it when the monsters GROW!!!

@@TokuAndAnimationNewsNetwork I love GIGA PHANTOM!!!
NOW CRUSH LIVEMAN!!!
Love both themes of Liveman. Megaranger (the first close and not the summer close theme), Timeranger and Abaranger.
Cool cool. Have a great new year's.
Well that opening was.............something. That's like a throw away joke or even an actual joke that would be on The Simpsons. But I found what you put on the end funny because I act the same way with my stuff. Well I look forward to the up dated version with the Shout Factory DVD's.
lol
I wouldn't really do an updated review with a Shout! Factory DVD release, but I would do a quick DVD review like I'm going to do with Jetman.
Well I'm talking about when this gets flagged and then you have to make changes and then you can put in the Shout DVD review.
lol
@@TokuAndAnimationNewsNetwork You know there's something you forgot to mention in this. One forgot to say that Liveman was the last of the Showa era series of Sentai.
I just never thought about it at the time of recording.
AHAA!
The music is definitely a highlight for Liveman.

It also helps that Gunpei and Hant were planned from the start, Tatsuya and Junichi were not.
Totally agree on all of the characters from Kyuranger being useless though.
i Heard this sentai came out in latin america and it was a success
Yeah, I think a few people in the comments mentioned that.
Nice! Well thanks for watching. I'm glad you've been enjoying them.
Yeah, it's not a bad series overall.

the rangers are interesting tho they still leave much to be desired

Super Sentai is available on Tubi. I can watch the episodes there. However, Liveman isn't available on Tubi.

Yes, but they became rivals.
Makes you wonder was Arnold watching Liveman and came up with the idea for Junior.

This piece from Gustav Holst's magnum opus The Planets inspired The Volt's theme music 18:12. It actually also inspired The Imperial March for Star Wars which also got a parody of sorts in a future Sentai which I will not name here but the Kami knows since that his all time favorite one.

I think if i had reviewed this today as opposed to when I did, I would have more to say about Bias.

okay how did saban claim copyright on this?
They just did and then when I explained in the dispute that this series was never released as Power Rangers Saban rejected it saying they still own the footage.
Kaiju no Kami they only used one of the suits from what I recall for Super Megaforce
i dont think they had them on it, doubt they even showed the keys, and if it was in the legendary battle then who could tell?

Exactly. It just goes to show how anyone can abuse the RUclips copyright claim system.
Hasbro could adapt it though
That still doesn't give Saban the right to abuse the copyright claim system. Plus, this is a review and is covered under fair use.
I'm currently watching kamen rider kuuga up to episode 13
What are you thinking of it so far?
@@TokuAndAnimationNewsNetwork love kuuga so far
You could have a spoiler section for characters like the great professor villain that requires spoilers to talk about the character
It really depends. Sometimes I do if there is no way around it, as was the case with Bullblack and the female Shinken Red, but I sually don't feel the need to do so.
i agree green rino and black bison didnt add anything to the story. they only ruined the three's chemistry. shouldve stuck with the original instead.
Yeah. A shame too.
The predecessors of Hurricanger
lol
a few episodes did not have a new monster
Were there?
@@TokuAndAnimationNewsNetwork the dinosaur one was a 2 parter so no new one in part 2 also the first monster appeared in episode 2 so no new one in episode 1
New name for episode 31 super Sentai got woak.
lol
Well despite the fact you weren’t a fan of those two villains I bet you were surprised by the tragic send off the show gave those two.
This show could have been excellent if Soda wasn’t playing mad ‘genius’. There are some seriously great plots that are detailed with love for robots or stag beetles… and the show will take a full 5 minutes to push the point. Damn… shame because it’s great otherwise. Highly recommended.
I do agree with that.
I liked episode 31 what’s wrong with it for its time the plot was dumb yes but interesting I don’t really like live green but I looked it at as werid and disturbing how the child just got killed and not wanted to be aborted I still liked it tho
Fair enough. :-)
it could have been worse, remember Junior? Arnolds Seed?
Andrew Viewtieful Tachibana yea that was horrible
11:07 No Kami, the Giga Phantom is bad ass, and why does Gash always fire in the way of the Liveman?
No idea.
@@donmccullen1973" NO IDEAL" 🤡
For me the episode where Junichi is pregnant is hardly the worst. The worst to me is the double-episode where a kid befriends a baby dinosaur. Oh God. I hate and always skips those two ! For me not only it is the stupidest Liveman episode but it's also the stupidest sentai or metal hero episode I've ever seen as a whole. :(
I can totally see why you would hate that one more.
I think you're being too harsh on Tetsuya and Junichi. I believe the series tried to give them character development. They are okay imo. One of the best sentai series that I've watched.
You might be right in me being a bit too harsh. I think I might have been too harsh on some of my earlier Showa Sentai reviews.
Liveman Was A Amazing Show In My Opinion Why You Say In Your Liveman Review A 3 Stars Of Five Because Maybe Green And Black of course maybe because volt I guess
Green and Black definitely knock the show down a bit.
Green and Black along with the 2 alien Villains that were added as they didn’t really add anything to the show
I remember watching this series but it got so boring that I dropped it, even before the Black and Green Rangers showed up. Sounds like I didn't miss much...
Yeah, that episode where Colon falls in love with that Jammer was kinda creepy...and weird
Gash was an asshole : he does the same thing over and over and over again....zzzz. He looked so cool...what a waste. Compare him to Gray from Jetman
I also feel like Gray was Toei's apology for Gash.
@@TokuAndAnimationNewsNetwork Gash and Grey were played by Hideaki Kusaka.
Power rangers is stupid, stupid, stupid, stupid
Episode 31 is dumb at first, but it turns out to be a dark Wild E. Coyote plot I say...if you know what I mean. Hey since our woke culture says men can give birth...OK I play along...at least here.
More power to you if you can find someway to like the episode. For me, it's one of the worst episodes in all of Sentai.
@@TokuAndAnimationNewsNetwork Maybe So.
Guess you can say Alucard is a really biased villain.
lol
I like liveman I think its overrated people keep saying it the best sentai in the 80s but it has problems which makes it second to flashman black and green suck the villans only do one day each and are poorly written and the mech battles are boring but the theme song slaps a listend to an English cover of it and it was good
I enjoy Liveman a lot, but compared to the others of its time, I definitely pick Flashman over it. The villains are great nonetheless.
