Quick update since a few folks have commented it: There is in fact an option to select which items you can have hotkeyed in the consumable d-pad item list. I'm not sure if I just totally spaced past one of the game's many pop-up hints, or if maybe it just didn't show up for me - but after playing more with that setting, it's a _little_ bit better at least! It's still on the needlessly clunky side, I feel that something like a secondary weapon wheel toggle could've probably done the trick better, but I wanted to note it at least! Original comment below:
    More like Horizon Forbidden...Zest.
    i'll be here all week

    • @rdfears

IIRC, there's no pop-up hint telling you how to rearrange the consumables. Instead, there's a pop-up telling you that you can hold down on the d-pad to pull up a crafting menu for those items. Then there's a controls indicator showing that the square button allows you to "change" the item. If you want to remove a particular item, you have to "change" it and then select the same item again.
      "Needlessly clunky" indeed.

    • @apictureoffunction
      @apictureoffunction 2 года назад +1

Honestly I don't understand why they made the item menu so tedious to scroll through. They should just implement a radial menu (like how the weapon wheel works) that opens up by holding left or right on the d-pad. That would significantly reduce the amount of time it takes to select a specific item, which can be super imperative when you're in the middle of a huge fight and don't wanna spend 10-15 seconds fumbling through all the items to get to the right one

  • @gaminggladiator06

More reviews should be like this one, talking as much of the negatives as much as the positives. A lot of corperate reviewers always praddle on about a game without mentioning it’s shortcomings, and even if they do, they gingerly step around it in favor of more admiration. Corperations, both creator and influencer, should understand that consumers want the full details, not just one side of it all. They want to know what they’re in for, and expect what to go for and what to try to avoid, even if it deters some people off. No game is perfect, one can’t simply cater to everyone’s individual wants and needs, so why should the people that talk of it have to make it sound as such? And besides, if you still find interest in something, even after hearing it’s downs, than maybe you’re just the kinda person this game caters to.
Keep up the good work, my shiny, yellow friend.

I didn't play Zero Dawn until it was on sale in the game of the year edition or whatever. About an hour in and I was absolutely in love. I still have yet to get Forbidden West - I'm not in a rush. I want to play this game at it's absolute best. Hoping the team can fix some of these visual issues and stuff. Its cool to hear about this game. I had the choice between this game and Elden Ring and I chose the latter (ER is absolutely phenomenal btw) so I did wonder how this one ended up. From the sounds of it definitely seems as if an upgrade to Zero Dawn, but as it shares its bones (its baseline game design I mean) I probably won't be touching this game.
Still its cool that people are liking it.
Though if I can address the comments here. I can understand if you all like Forbidden West, but you can express praise for a title without being reductive towards other games. I get that FromSoft fans are harshly vocal, but that doesn't make your derision is any more acceptable.
There's a lot of weird talks and comments about what game deserves game of the year or deserves more success, but such conversations don't help anything. Instead I would advise to be happy for the success each title achieves based on their own merits.

Tbh I think it's mainly the elden ring fans that are aggressive about which game is better. I go on to guerillas twitter and I ALWAYS see some person taking advantage of a glitch in the game (like the "shimmering" in performance mode that I cant even see, and dont care about since I play on base ps4 and I still love the graphics) and they say "haven't touched this game because of the shimmer in performance mode, that and I was too busy playing Elden Ring". I get that some of the guerilla devs critiqued elden ring because they were salty, but at the same time I get why they were salty since horizon games never get a good launch date and its always right behind a super popular game. But its not like we can overlook the fact that they're a smaller game developing company and have been recieving so much hate even before the game came out where it was just xbox fanboys picking out the smallest details and complaining. You can blame it on horizon players all you want but the despise for elden ring was made from elden ring

I was as well let down huge when they put limit on traps or trip lines you put out unless you upgrade to that and they also get the armour to allow you to up grade. So unfortunately I really shied away from using trip caster because I am all about the stealth and distance shooting in this one. I think they did a great job with stealth but I hate they took away the whistle to distract mobs and bring them close to you.

I feel like I am towards the end of the main story and I am at the point where if I am breaking with side missions, I ask 0 questions. Someone tells me her brother is missing and I have the option to discuss what they fought about, what they were hunting, what their favourite colour is I don't give a sh*t I look for the branch that starts the mission.
Don't get me started on your buddies at the base who will forever have an "!" above their head to ask about Zeniths, Companions, Training :/

I generally agree with the review, but I very much could tell the difference between the two display modes. 60fps felt amazing, but it is quite noticeably softer and noisier thanks to the checkerboard rendering. Enough to the point that I actually preferred playing in Fidelity mode.

I finally got around to playing The Frozen Wilds last year, and can't say I expected to have as much fun as I did venturing though that frozen little addition to the map. I think that's one thing Guerrilla Games gets down so well. Like with Breath of the Wild, I'm not a huge fan of the writing (the exposition heavy dialogue in Zero Dawn really bogged things down for me), but these are the kinds of games where I can overlook that and just enjoy exploring the world. It may be some time before I'll be ready to return to this series, especially since I still have a backlog to work through, but given everything you and everyone else has said (shortcomings aside, because I knew they were coming), I don't think this one will disappoint.

Yes you can sit in texts for hours but as soon as you see the dialogue wheel you can hit the last option without touching the others and it lets you leave the conversation. I'm on the PS4 Pro and the game runs fine. One issue I found is that if you turn on "always run" then Alloys motion is slightly wonky as if she keeps tripping on something invisible. Also I miss the whistle lure because I mostly use stealth, especially in the early part of the game where all my stats are weak. Throwing rocks as lure is next to useless.

Alot of people raves about ER. But this is my game of the year, hell of all time. I spend more time on Elden Ring due to its replayability. But I still think HZFW is a much much better game in every gaming aspect. Graphics are better, stories are better, world building is better, world quests are better, character developments are better, immersion is better, pacing and progression is better. Endless quality of life options. I feel almost sad when HZFB ended. I didn't get this feeling with ER, I simply just replayed, until I fell out of love with it.

I wish they would improve the weapon display and other gear in shops. One, you should be able to pick what you are looking for in a bow.. speed, power, sheer, elemental, or whatever, and have it line the weapons up from weakest to strongest according to that stat.

I have spent so much time on this series it’s just amazing from my perspective. For an example I’m a final fantasy 7 fan so I picked up the remake like a good fan should. I was absolutely begging for the game to be over by the time I was 40 hours in. I play at a slow pace and I’m not a completionist by any means. I put in probably 80 hours into Zero Dawn last month and barely even noticed the time. I got probably 90% main and probably 50% expansion. With Forbidden West I’m now 60 hours in and only about 40% complete. Again I like to take my time to see the sights. I’ll likely go back to clean up Zero Dawn and finish up Forbidden West if a new game+ comes along. I do have to agree with the video though. After a while when you get powered up, you become an unstoppable monster. Changing up your play style helps with keeping it fresh though.

The first thing that came to me as a bad point was that it is so much easier than the first game to gain health.
As you say, I was never truly in danger even in hard mode. I knew that If I played it right I could do it, while in the first game I was not avoiding enemies because I was lazy but because I was scared to die.

I recently finished HZD. Save for a few audio logs and trophies. It's a game that hits you in the face with the exposition and it's up to the player to decide what's important or not.
If this game is more that in spades. Then I think I'll be taking a bit of a break from the series. Maybe wait for the game of the year edition come out with all the DLC included

    Good, convincing review.
One thing I'd disagree with is the climbing. It's still the yellow marked ledges you can grab onto, they're just hidden until you ping it with the Focus. And it's not even like open-eyed players could see the climbable stuff without the ping, because I saw it in different videos how there like two really similar cliffsides next to each other, but only one of them is climbable. That's pretty dumb. I think they might've been better off with the new AC way, and have like 90% of the game world be climbable.

One of my main problems with the game is that dialogue isn't a conversation where you react and shape the conversation like Dragon Age and Mass Effect. In Forbidden West, you're not choosing what to say, *you're choosing how long Aloy gets lectured.*
If the conversations were more dynamic the level of dialogue would be great, but done like this it's filler. I like the game overall and the level of detail is outstanding, but they need to work on how dialogue is happening.

The Golden Bolt this was a great review over all 100%.
I love all of this game and side content as well. I have played now I think almost 200 hours. One thing I will say is I wish you can target the chest and crystals so you do not lose track of them when you are trying to get them and find them. I also wish they aloud some underwater content to keep mobs back and if it is the basic ones (Burrowers and Red Eyes) you should be able to kill them in a few hits, but that is me. and I do wish they never took out the whistle lure to bring mobs close to you. This game is so beautiful that yes it distracts you and I find you want to take pictures.

If you don't mind some feedback from someone whose HFW searches brought your video to the forefront... (IGN doesn't appear unless I look for them.) 😉
I was absolutely in *LOVE* with HZD. One of the key reasons was the lack of requirement for excellent reflexes. Y'see, I'm disabled. A neurological disorder has caused the muscles in my hands to atrophy. I prefer persistence over reflex time. It's why even story or easy mode can be a challenge for me. In the first game, however, I could one-shot many of the smaller machines, so an increase in the challenge on story mode was appreciated.
That said, however, I don't see how I'll be able to platinum this game. I can't react fast enough to get certain combat combos to activate, which means I'll never defeat "the Enduring." Mind, I could be doing something completely wrong, but no video tutorial has helped me.
The thing that I enjoyed the most in the game was the amount of *STUFF!* Loot hidden in old safes, barrels, and even the trunks of cars. But it's not just the physical that's impressive. The voices in populated areas is vastly improved. In HZD, when walking through a market, different voices would recite the exact same line. HFW has a wider range of background dialog... AND THEY REACT TO WHAT YOU DO! If you bump into an NPC, they criticize your rudeness. If you wing down from a higher point, they comment on your acrobatics or marvel at your skill. They packed the new game with A LOT of content.
I'm probably one of the few who will bring up the bugs. My channel, as anorexic as it is, is HFW bug videos that I've posted simply so I could link them in bug reports to Guerilla Games.
Now my big complaint: I wasn't entranced by the story. In the first game, the mystery of why allow was born and what she had to do to fix the broken world was maintained from start to finish. By the time the game's climax rolled around, there was only one major mystery lingering: Who or what woke HADES? "Forbidden West' was more along the lines of, "I have to accomplish A, B, and C to get to D, E, and F." The mystery wasn't nearly as captivating.
But opinions are like belly buttons, with many filled with useless lint. 😉I'll give you the thumbs-up, GB, because you *did* present a detailed review that was articulated well.

One of my biggest gripe is that ammo types are locked in to a weapon and you can’t switch them out. I had a really good bow with tearblast ammo but the best legendary bow doesn’t have it. Or the bow with mark arrows which are useless except fighting cloaked enemies.

In forbidden west I've literally done everything, got the platnium trophy a few days ago (the 22nd to be exact, 5 days after launch) but there's nothing left to do for skill points and I'm 13 skill points short of maxing out the last 2 valor surge's, last 2 are at level 1 and level 2 but need 13 skill points to Max them out, done all 28 side quests and 18 errands, all rebel camps and out posts, all survey drones are done, the only things I haven't finished are fully upgrading weapons and armors.

It's like the first AC games. Every climable stone - and there are some only half a meter high - will get in your way cause Aloy tries to climb it. I died several times bc this happened in the mittle of a fight a she would disconnect.
And then you have clearly marked climbing markers only a few centimezters in front of her but will she go there? No. But the marker on the other side of the cliff some meters away... that's the right way.
