It was good. But the screenplay could've been a bit better. I think it would be better to make this a show than a film. Or make it not be a cinematic film
Question for everyone, would we be ok with Cole becoming a playable character in the next Mortal Kombat game? I could see him playing as a defense heavy, almost tank like character similar to Jax, but he'd be a little bit more aggressive thanks to the tonfas.
When sub zero and scorpion were fighting at the end, and subzero gets his ass kicked. He breaks off his blue armor and is wearing all black, is it a possible Noob Saibot Easter egg?
It seemed to me that he wore black for all the movie, I've even mistaken him for Noob when he first appeared (so I was a bit confused because I thought "wait, is this movie happening after Hanzo already took his revenge or did I miss something"), so I guess the callback was there since the beginning.
yes I think so first because what Shang Tsung have said when Sub Zero´s body was vanishing and because Joe Taslim was really good in the movie he will be in a sequel as Noob Saibot foe sure
Mojo has a tendency to do serious click bait. Another Easter egg here was “let’s go before we run into other 4 armed monsters” insinuating that the character was referencing the other 4 armed monsters in the game franchise but.....unless the second movie has one, this is not an Easter egg. It was a chance for Mojo to share information sure, but an Easter egg? No.
after Tobias left Midway, the MK franchises seems to omit his name at one time. They even remove the Saibot from Noob Saibot, later added back. Ed Boon was the programmer and John Tobias was the graphic designer. I'm happy John Tobias gets to share the co-creator credit in this movie.
@@lchambers56 Well, if it really was Bi-Han, and not Quan Chi who directly was involved, then i'd say he made a deal with Outworld - Shang Tsung, more specifically - to be granted immortality (eternal life, not to be confused with invincibility) so that he may become the mightiest warrior of the Lin Kuei, and preserve their legacy through his existence as the Sorcerer's champion. After all, if the Soul Chamber exists still, then I imagine occasional soul spas keep the mortal form rejuvenated, and out of the arms of death for LONG time periods. And even though the asshole's dead......I think it's fair to say we aren't done with him, OR with Prince Goro just yet - not if the Mortal Kombat tournament is still coming, and the movie was ultimately Shang Tsung being the cheating bastard he's always been, and lead an unsanctioned assassination assault against the earthrealmers. Better hope Shao Kahn doesn't find out about it, given Mileena's fate.^^; As for Bi-Han? I imagine the next we see him, he will......be one with The Darkness, as the wraith we know he is destined to become.
True. They, on their own, could carry out an entire story/movie based on the two trying to destroy one another, ending in Scorpion killing Bi-Han......but then hopefully, Quan Chi makes the same mistake as before somehow by leaving a clue that exposes HIM as the orchestrator of the Shirai Ryu's destroyer, and the movie has the Oni and Specter engage in a final clash for Hanzo Hasashi's freedom.
They mentioned Reptile's real name: Syzoth. That already showed me that the people involved in making this movie did know more of the lore than anticipated. Shinnok's Amulet, the relics of Kitana, Kotal Kahn and references to Nightwolf, Shao Khan and Johnny Cage made me smile from ear to ear.

Delia is the hooded woman in one of the murals, she's the wife of Argus, an Edenian god. Fujin, Raiden's bro, is depicted as the big statue in the temple, the one whose hand gets cut by Kano's laser.
The fact that cole pointed out that they misspelled combat as kombat is a reference to how the word came to be. Someone wanted to be funny and put K instead of C and tobias and boon thought it was smart and kept it so they could trademark the term
That _is_ smart. BC Now, whenever people want to reference the series, they have to either abbreviate it as MK or call it Mortal Kombat. Thus making it a 'This is what makes our property distinct.' deal.
@@reapster12 no it was because they were worried they couldn't get the trademark so they intentionally did it for that reason and it was great for marketing
One thing, I wished they had included (maybe deleted) But after Jax killed Reiko, he should've threw his body into the pit... Not actually utilizing the stage for what it is, makes using it, kinda pointless...
When Shang Tsung said at the end, “death is only a door” or something like that, I hoped he meant that some of these characters (SPOILER: Goro) might make a return via resurrection since that’s a thing in the games.
They will eventually come back considering that Shang Tsung took the bodies of Goro and SubZero with him, also him mentioned that he would bring a Army to fight Earthrealm.

The Chicago/Gary, IN reference (when Cole said he's from the South Side of Chicago). Ed Boon and John Tobias are from here. Netherrealm Studios is located on the North Side of town on West Bradley, near the WGN Studios
Extremely idiotic to introduce Kitana's clone before herself since meeting Mileena was one of the reasons Kitana looses faith in Shao Khan. Imagine if a writer made a movie about the avengers, and included Thor Girl (or Torunn, depending on continuity). She's introduced as the Goddess of Thunder, which doesn't make sense, because Thor is the god of Thunder, and for some reason, isn't there himself. Or a better example, imagine if a transformers movie introduced the normal team of Autobots, except they introduce Rodimus instead of Optimus Prime himself.
@@fgl8044 I'm not disagreeing but let's remember that this is a violent action movie based on a video game series with stories similar to a demonic soap opera. I think you may be reading a bit much into it lol who knows what the sequel will bring. Maybe they'll cover Kitana, Shao Kahn, and Sindel in the beginning the same way they did Sub and Scorp. Here's a fun question : who should play Shao Kahn?
And their justification was reasonable imo. Basically, there were already so many people to cover that adding more would have strained the story as a whole. I agree with this since Kahn isn't really brought up. So Kitana didn't need to be either. My guess is Mileena is such a fan favorite for the anime waifu types that they felt the need to add at least one... Uhh sexy, ninja female lol
Honestly, we are proud to be MK fans. If there's a 12th MK game possibly for 2024 or 2025, then we'll wait until it comes out. If there's a possible sequel to the 2021 movie, then we'll wait until 2023 or 2024.

Also, when jax is talking to cole young in the beginning. He mentioned cole taking a belt from Eddie tabias. Which is Ed Boon, and John Tabias names, the creators of Mortal Kombat the game.
Same man I liked it too At the end of the day a movie is for people to enjoy themselves and have a temporary relief. And this was that good for me atleast so 9/10 for me
You can’t have a franchise without laying down the foundation and they’re not gonna please everyone.. this movie was good, and I hope they just get better and better.
How about a micro-easter egg? Shang Tsung's "I've come for your souls" are words pulled straight from Shao Khan's at the end of the 1995 version. Heck, would have loved to hear Raiden's "I don't think so" line.
there is another easter egg i dont know but maybe it is....when jax meet cole for the first time and jax said...the man who took the belt from eddie tobias....edd boon and john tobias the two creators of mortal kombat.
The opening scene was amazing and I think the movie was pretty good for a video game adaptation. Of course they took some of their own creative direction with it, but I loved how much it felt like a faithful adaptation. The only character I didn't think was cast right was Raiden. The actor showed none of the complexity that Raiden has in the video games. Just made him stone cold and mean. Also, I agree that Mileena's inclusion without Kitana is a little messy, especially when you throw in her war fans as an easter egg.
What about Noob Saibot. Noob Saibot was also hinted at. During the fight between Scorpion and Sub Zero (Bi Han)... Sub-zero takes off his armor to reveal a black ninja outfit that looked a lot like the outfit Noob Saibot wears. This seems fitting because, in the game, Bi Han does become Noob Saibot after being killed by Scorpion. I thought it was a nod to that, as well as setting up for Bi Han's potential return in the movie franchise.
@@patrickbateman556 no it actually isn't a bad movie stop acting like you have such fine taste in movies. It definitely didn't live up to the hype but it absolutely is not a bad movie what so ever. Get over yourself
@Graham Norwood It actually isn't given the fact that you can't give every character a backdrop for a movie that runs 1:45 runtime. WAS IT AMAZING? Na, it was decent and good. Too many people jumping and judging hard when they can't understand that this film wasn't even supposed to happen. We'll see about the next movie and how it's handled if this has commercial success.
Well y’all referenced a lot but Liu Kang Animality The Uppercut The Marking real meaning “you have been chosen” isn’t just some throw away line in the earlier games while choosing a character the Mortal Kombat symbol was a coin or icon that was place over the character this was their clever way of saying someone picked this fighter to play with
They should really expand this into a cinematic universe. There's 30 years of material to work with. What I enjoyed about the original 1995 was that every character got their own fight as opposed to here where they cut back and forth because there were so many characters. Or at least release a 4 hour version.
What about Sub-zero (Bi Han) stripping himself of his blue armor, covering himself only in black clothing, making look like his resurrected new form "Noob Saibot".
i watched it today , i was all smiles, they kept the same campy style of the old one, didn't take it too seriously, love the foreshadowing at the end with cage, Kano was a hoot, Kabal was awesome, the whole movie was just fun to watch, loved it, hope more to come.
I also liked how Lui Kang mentioned Bo' Rai Cho who is my favorite MK Drunken Master who trained both Lui Kang and Kung Lao. I wonder if they are gonna bring him in the sequel as a training montage for Lui Kang or a deleted scene for when Kung Lao and Lui Kang meet during their training.
Zac Efron and Ryan Reynolds are complete shit when compared to a Master like Scott Adkins. They might be pretty looking but none of them can get those hands and legs swinging like Boyka ✊
I watched this movie and I played all the games since MK1 and I'm sure to say: this movie is a good adaptation and Rotten Tomatoes needs to go to the NetherRealm and to the shit too.
By now people should not be trusting Rotten Tomatoes. Just let them enjoy and watch what they want without self-righteous anonymous critics shoving their opinions down our throats.
This is a good adaptation how? Because it made up an entirely new main character that is bland, boring, and mainly just a filler? By having one of the least important characters in the lore steal every single scene in which they appear? By introducing more plot holes than even the source material has? By introducing lame lore that doesn't exist in the source material? I'm sorry, but the first movie is still better.
@@thrrax you do understand that they added Cole young so the audience knows what’s going on since we can’t personally ask them. When they make the second film with a bigger budget & the actual tournament starts that’s when you will see the things they’re trying to do for this franchise. But you’re one of those people that shit on the movie but I know for a fact you’re watching the next one
I'm obsessed with mortal kombat since i was like 8 years old and as a huge fan i can say i loved the movie. Game adaptations are usually trash but this one is good! I caught myself screaming in happiness with the fight scenes and the iconic phrases. The violence was on point. I hope they make more movies cause I just wanna see my dear Shinnok
This movie gave us a boring Shang Tsung with no screen presence... the Mortal Kombat from 1995 he was so charismatic and ate up the screen everytime he was on, and was in it a lot. This movie tried to be different to focus less on the big bads, and focus on Sub Zero and Scorpion's feud... which is kind of smart, but nobody knows why Outworld is a big deal if you are not a fan of the games and lore

Kinda dumb to include her clone then
Extremely idiotic to introduce Kitana's clone before herself since meeting Mileena was one of the reasons Kitana looses faith in Shao Khan.

How about a micro-easter egg? Shang Tsung's "I've come for your souls" are words pulled straight from Shao Khan's at the end of the 1995 version. Heck, would have loved to hear Raiden's "I don't think so" line.
