In my opinion, Magnus might be overreacting if this issue is solely about a dress code. However, as he mentioned in his interview, FIDE has been targeting top players who participate in Freestyle chess. This could be the tipping point of a long-standing conflict, potentially bursting a bubble that has been building for some time. If FIDE does not take proactive measures, we might witness an unprecedented revolution in the history of sports.
He said two golden words, and I want to repeat them for you: 'F you.' Go wear pants and play chess if you want, but who the hell are you to force others to do the same? Chess needs to be liberated from these clowns

Thats insane, FIDE means nothing without players like Magnus, Hikaru, Duda. Decisions like this kills the show
Honestly I can understand Fide has some issues. But in spite of those issues, and all the 150 players knowing the issues had decided to play in the tournament. All of them already knew the dress code. And true the dress code sounds ridiculous and unreasonable but it was there in the regulations section and none of the players complained at the beginning of the tournament about it. Even Magnus knew the dress code and he violated it, he violated a rule. He chose a middle of a tournament to protest against the rule. If he did not want to comply with any particular rule then why not approach the authorities before the tournament begins, why suddenly in the middle? A rule is a rule and everyone should follow the rule especially if they are already aware of the rule. I don't know if Magnus was just in a bad mood that he was not in a good position or leading in the entire tournament but what he did was very very unreasonable. Everyone one should comply and maintain rules.
Tbh magnus is above FIDE here. Also it's a stupid rule that doesn't make sense. It's an individual sport and currently magnus is chess. We'll see what happens now it'll be interesting as all the top players like bobby and garry who have tried to go separate ways in the past didn't work. This time it's magnus and clearly he isn't coming back it'll be interesting to say how the next year goes
"Everyone one should comply and maintain rules." Actually that's not true. The rule has to make sense also, otherwise the German soldier shooting Jews also was following rules. FIDE is free to enforce its rules (even stupid rules), Magnus is free to disobey and break-up with FIDE. Sometimes disorder and chaos brings fresh creation.
Some of his statements seem to be that he won’t play properly fide organised tournaments He will play Tata steel ig but if fide intervenes a lot he will leave that in same fashion and would focus more on FCPC !! I guess it would be more fun for him to play !!
Its absolutely about what Hans said... Fide FEARS Magnus. Magnus has become greater than almost chess itself. so its only natural that Fide wants to shut down the one thing that cant control and may take away the power over chess they've had for ages.
You are reta/rded if you think Mangoose is bigger than Chess.. Chess has been there since more than 1500 years.. Mangoose will become irrelevant in 5 years when the youngsters take over completely.. & since he has decided to not play in Fide events it might even happen sooner in 2-3 years.. 10 years from now everyone will forget his era & latch on to others.. 20 years later there'll be hardly any mention of him coz all his records will be broken.. 50-70 years from now Mangoose will be dead while regretting his decision.. chess will continue to exist & he'll be rotting six feet under.
I agree to a certain extent, but let's be honest, if this is the case, fide itself is being stupid to go against its number 1 player in the world and want to chase him, Fide needs Magnus much more than Magnus needs Fide
I think this isn't even a big drama , the more drama is upcomming in 2025 where magnus will play in freestyle chess and freestyle world championships. So much to come 😁

not being paired up killed all his remaining chances and since fide was already testing his patience, he simply didnt find any reason to continue, THATS IT!
He decided not to comply with the dress code, though there was apparently time to go and change it.. this was his call, and he built a narrative that "FIDE disqualified Carles"! Very immature..
Of course. If cared about title, then he wouldn't have abandoned classic world champion. He had already won everything so many times. Winning or losing doesn't make any difference to his legacy.

It doesn't matter who is right or wrong here. The sad part is this event will be remembered for this incident only. It'll be interesting to see how freestyle goes as it's clearly freestyle vs fide right now
It's simple. Magnus and FIDE were not on the same page about freestyle chess. He looks like he was just looking for a cause to take up a fight against FIDE so that he can now openly promote freestyle chess(which he has been doing a lot more in the recent times).
you can literally watch the live stream and see dozens of players wearing jeans... they are only targeting top players that play freestyle. give me a break
" Law without Justice is BLIND ; Justice without law is LAME ; and " Law GEARED to Justice " is ORDER " ---- This is the saying of a Great Judge of Supreme Court of India i.e, Justice V R Krishna Iyer . In other words, Law should serve justice. This aphorism applies in the present case. First point : The VERY RULE of FIDE is BLATANTLY WRONG as well as SUB-HUMAN . Second point -- Enforcing the said rule and barring ( not pairing ) Magnus is all the MORE SUB-HUMAN , if not inhuman. We add further that imposition of Heavy / Double Fine on Magnus would have been JUST, FAIR and Sound ., but not disqualifying him for the next round of the competition.
You’re missing the main point of all this: Magnus is trying to delegitimize Fide and their titles to promote his Freestyle nonsense He forfeited the classical title, shit talked Ding v Gukesh and now is pulling stunts like this at the World Rapid and Blitz. All so that people go the actual winners like Gukesh aren’t “real” champions
@ yes, towards Gukesh because eventually a billion Indian people watching will absolutely outweigh what little interest chess can garner in the rest of the world
Ofcourse Gukesh is the world champion. But regarding the level and quality of play that world championship demands, we can failry say that neither Gukesh nor Ding met that standard.
In my opinion, it's a mind game. It doesn't matter what clothes you wear, it matters how you play the greatest game in the world. Magnus is the greatest player of the new age, it's a pleasure to watch him. And what about FIDE, the answer he gave them is correct. No one can behave like this with great players, especially organizers who don't even play the greatest game called CHESS!
People saying “a rule is a rule” ignore the fact that this rule has been challenged and criticized by lots of players over the last years. A federation of a sport should care to adapt the rules to the reality and always serving the sport itself; if it’s clear that they are no longer justified or providing any tangent value to the sport, they should change them instead of just following them blindly. If the voice of the players is constantly ignored, rebelling like Magnus did is the only way. In this sense, the arbiters did their job. This should have prevented by modernizing the rulebook long ago, now it was too late for Magnus. Still the decision to violate the rules is totally his fault and responsibility, he could have complied and complained publicly after the tournament, ideally gathering support from other players. Guess it’s too late for that now…

At the end of the day rules are rules. You are playing in New York, close to Wall Street - the most prestigious stock exchange in the world. Everyone is wearing a dress everywhere - that's just common sense. Magnus refusing to obey the rules after being warned is similar to a 13 year old child who cant have ice cream. Why should they treat him differently than other players? For a number of years him and his team have been given private lounges in these tournaments where no other player has had similar benefits. Simply because he is Magnus Carlsen. I would argue FIDE has really gone a long way to keep this child happy under every circumstance giving him benefits no one else has been given over the years. The world champion deciding to forfeit over a pair of jeans and leaving spontaneously like a child is the biggest scandal in modern chess history. I cant believe he doesn't have a team of friends, family and/or sports psychologist to help him not make such stupid decisions when he is obviously on the spectrum and prone to be unreasonable and make rash decisions when distressed. He will for sure regret this decision in the long term. Why not compete for the gold medal when you are still in your prime to further solidify your position as the GOAT? FIDE is gonna move on without him and we will have new world champions, but what a tragic day for chess.
Wait till you realize that many institutional investors no longer even work in the NYSE and don't have to adhere to such these dress codes anymore. FIDE rules don't prohibit jeans from men who are participating in chess games anyways, google it. It was likely related to the tournament rules itself.
Magnus just has too much FU money we should enroll him in one of them super poker tournaments so he gets swindled out of 20 million and regains some interest in chess
When a rule exists, you should always try and understand why it exists in the first place. "A rule is a rule" is the most brain dead, sheep-like thinking authorities love to see. When you try and understand them, most of the rules have a reason to exist and are justified. However, some of them are absolutely useless; insulting, even, and people like Magnus are not stupid enough to accept them cordially. This dress code rule is trash when the only thing that matters is seeing good level of chess.
Bro was 5/8, one more win would take him 6/9 and 12 th position or around And with 4 matches remaining he was very likely to make it And at the knockout he would be favourite again, he beat all the fop GMs in rapid in last 2 months to win tata steel and CCT

Its not just jeans, many factors could be at play. Magnus had a tough chance of winning at this point, he was in favor of freestyle chess, he had issues with FIDE. Frankly he could have been a role model and changed from jeans before final round. Just because he is No 1, cannot take for granted. Can one wear jeans in Tennis or Cricket test matches?

Magnus throws a tantrum again. This matter could have been resolved amicably. Nevertheless, no one individual is above the sport. Rules are for everyone. A few players were already fined and warned; they all complied. The dress code were in fact instituted by the players representation. But clearly, there is more to it than an outfit issue and perhaps he is also wary of the rising juniors. In general, the game of Chess will always find another super talent in the near future.
This is more than refusing to change a pair of jeans before playing the next game. Magnus is right. The top 100 players should elect a “players’ board” which can approve or reject rules and deal with controversies. FIDE should not target players because they want to participate in Chess freestyle tournaments. Clearly, this is as crazy as preventing Djokovic to play in Australia Open or US Open because he is not covid vaccinated. There are always people that crave the power to rule and keeping that in check is a good thing. Magnus is a thoughtful person that is not only an extraordinary chess player but one that has been extraordinary good for the game. Top players should put pressure on FIDE to change and hand over the rule making power or at least be subjected to the veto of an elected rule board.

Bro just stop this cap, didn't he know about the rules while he was dressing for the day? How many championships has he contested in? Let's be objective here.
Magnus already paid the fine like he should. Magnus agreed to change clothes the next day, that should be enough considering he is the goat and was not "bad looking". Rules are rules but Fide did a mistake in this case regardless.

What is this freestyle chess, are they trying to set up a Fischer Random chess system, by " stealing " Fischer's original idea?
@@MartialShadow7seems like. Check their website, they have planned the entire 2025 in advance that might disrupt FIDE candidates circuit events.

I have huge respect for all GM's on this tournament but to be honnest ill not watch this Championships if propably best, or at least one of favourits to win it is being DQ for wearing jeans. Thats insane, FIDE means nothing without players like Magnus, Hikaru, Duda. Decisions like this kills the show
Ego and a pathetic rule mixed up or maybe a deeper beef going on between mag and fide.
#FreestyleChess ❤🎉
Who do you think is going to win?
Very true!!
Nobody is above the game.
Someone needed to openly criticize fide's rules. Some of the rules are really stupid.
Kid it's not about dress code 😂😂
And second thing he looked more professional in those pairs of pants than most of GMs.
Some of his statements seem to be that he won’t play properly fide organised tournaments
He will play Tata steel ig but if fide intervenes a lot he will leave that in same fashion and would focus more on FCPC !!
I guess it would be more fun for him to play !!
Its absolutely about what Hans said... Fide FEARS Magnus. Magnus has become greater than almost chess itself. so its only natural that Fide wants to shut down the one thing that cant control and may take away the power over chess they've had for ages.
Same like LIV golf and footballs's wanna break away European Super League.
I agree to a certain extent, but let's be honest, if this is the case, fide itself is being stupid to go against its number 1 player in the world and want to chase him, Fide needs Magnus much more than Magnus needs Fide
the jeans gambit for freestyle enterprise lmao the guy is a businessman now
I think this isn't even a big drama , the more drama is upcomming in 2025 where magnus will play in freestyle chess and freestyle world championships.
So much to come 😁
A rule is a rule, it is for all not just for one. Magnus had some alterior motives behind this drama.
There is no ulterior motive. When growing up, you eventually reach a point where you stop giving a f***, and won't compromise against injustice.

I feel the same. Magnus deliberately wore the jeans. I mean isn't it the second perceptively obvious piece of clothing!...Magnus wanted the drama for some back reason.

Just one question. Would Magnus have walked out if he was at the top of the table?
not being paired up killed all his remaining chances and since fide was already testing his patience, he simply didnt find any reason to continue, THATS IT!

Even if he was wearing trousers, one should be mindful. The whole world got to see the GOAT's backside. After seeing that I changed my mind about the incident.
Yes I think that's the actuel issue.
It doesn't matter who is right or wrong here. The sad part is this event will be remembered for this incident only. It'll be interesting to see how freestyle goes as it's clearly freestyle vs fide right now
Fide is 100 years old. It will survive with or without magnus.
And that might have been Magneciums goal all along. His teerrible performance forgotten. Just like against Hans.
Well currently magnus is the face of chess so it's an interesting battle hopefully chess wins
Magnus has a big ego, however FIDE should have respected his request to change the following day. come on he the GOAT
yes he is the Chess GOAT...but his EGO... Rules are for everyone...incl the GOAT.
Thanks for the coverage compiling so many stuff in one video. Maybe the "trousers" one can be added as well. Thanks again!
It's simple. Magnus and FIDE were not on the same page about freestyle chess. He looks like he was just looking for a cause to take up a fight against FIDE so that he can now openly promote freestyle chess(which he has been doing a lot more in the recent times).
according to me FIDE should give what type of penalties will be charged after breaking any rule before tournament starts .
Rules are Rules. So you must follow 📌 in any sports.

Can somebody reply? I never got replied for the past 13 years......😢
Sure brother
You’re missing the main point of all this: Magnus is trying to delegitimize Fide and their titles to promote his Freestyle nonsense
He forfeited the classical title, shit talked Ding v Gukesh and now is pulling stunts like this at the World Rapid and Blitz.
All so that people go the actual winners like Gukesh aren’t “real” champions
Let's see... Gukash playing at event, Carlson playing at another.. I know where the sponsors will go..
@ yes, towards Gukesh because eventually a billion Indian people watching will absolutely outweigh what little interest chess can garner in the rest of the world
A billion improvised Indians watching who live in slums and can’t feed themselves - I know where the sponsors will go
Ofcourse Gukesh is the world champion.

Please make a video on controversy of world championship, freestyle tour and does it overlap with fide calendar?
Guess it’s too late for that now…
Good for Magnus!

Player is not above the rules
The rule is trash.

I think so....not only a fide rule makes magnus to behave like these....there are some more resonsns behind this incident
1. Decrease intrest in chess on now days.
2. Got lost with below 2600 elo(dissopentment).
I am surprised Mr. Beast and Elon Must tweeted about the incident. Those are some big names outside of chess
Elon Musk and Mr Beast are known to tweet about anything, it's nothing new.
Mr. Predator should keep his mouth shut
Do you really think they tweet? They have a social media manager who does it for them.
@@_Infocars Are you serious ? Didn't you see the totally ridiculous things Musk has tweeted other the years (so much that he had to apologize) ? A social media manager wouldn't mess up this badly.
I didn't know there's a new gambit 😮
The fact that mr beast and elon tweeted about this is just awesome.
Wow, really? This one blew up massively then
They tweet about random things for their own agendas. Mr.Beast for his business purposes has been tweeting everywhere to promote Beast Games.
And Elon Musk for his politics, has been tweeting everywhere to paint himself as an anti-establishment unique guy (so against rules and FIDE is based for him, and in this case Elon might be right) and for his anti woke politics because once upon a time woke mob came after him and also because he is in the Trump administration now, like literally.
They or their teams tweet a lot.
