    I did a lot of research on the internet between the Flux and the DS-1. As most people have probably figured out, I know that the DS-1 is clearly superior, but the question is whether it justifies the extra money for it. I spent a bit of time communicating back and forth with Chris Miller, the owner and creator of DS-1, and he really impressed me as someone knowledgeable and a no-BS kind of guy. I eventually went with the DS-1, as I really wanted something that can last me for a long time. Together with the projector, I also bought the chrome disc, as well as 5 other star discs. Very happy with my choice. The projector is of a very high quality, and the images it cast on my room's ceiling are amazing. I never get to test out the Flux, so I can't give a honest comparison. But I'm a very happy customer of the DS-1, and if you have a somewhat decent interest in astronomy, I would definitely recommend the DS-1

    Just ordered mine !! ^_^ The depth on the chrome disk is exactly what I was looking for! , since I was a child I wanted to have something like that in my bedroom.
    Saw a few misleading ads on Instagram for the Flux model but quickly realized that I’m definitely not getting what’s being advertised. So the search began and after reading about Miller Engineering and visiting their late 90’s looking cwebsite(which is actually awsoem!) I ended up here. The price....is up there however, being a musician and working with people In the industry some, actually most hi-deff light projectors and lasers are tens of thousand of dollars, so it’s reasonably priced considering the experience that comes with it.
    Anyhow, I’m really excited to get it and can’t wait to zone out to some awsome jams while drifting through the space. Taking it to a smaller shows and parties will be great too!!

    It looks good. The only issue I see is the AC adapter plug location. In some cases you will end up having the cord hanging off the front. They should have put it on the same side as the controls since you are unlikely to face the controls forward. With how nice the night light looks I imagine you would want the controls facing away from you until you are going to project. It would also be nice to set the brightness for the control buttons so they are off or very dim. Maybe they should dim when the night light dims.

    I near cried when I saw the projection with the hopeful piano music playing with it. It reminds me of youthful days of wonder and awe in cosmic majesticity, in admiration and reverence to the cosmos as a young boy. I used to have dreams of becoming an aeronautics engineer and become an astronomical observer. This shot me straight back to those days and filled me again with the same boy like wonder. I live in the city. I can never go outside and see the firmament like this. That’s part of the draw to astronomy, and projectors like this. A happy temporary replacement.

    I love your reviews! I have a silly question. What I was looking for is a projector that will show a realistic image of how the night sky is supposed to look with the naked eye. I have read that one can see between 4,000 and 10,000 stars even under best conditions. My question is, the products you review display many more stars, from 60,000 to 4 million. Does it mean they are really not showing a realistic view of the sky seen with the naked eye and are somehow magnifiying the night sky? Thank you

    • @billm1651
      @billm1651 3 года назад

      They are showing you an accurate representation of the sky. It will show you more than you would see in real life with your eyes. The photos of the night sky people take that look really impressive have very long exposures to bring in more light.

    That chrome disc is breathtaking and maybe worth an upgrade for. I have the sega flux that's half the power that I'm very happy with it though feel it could do with a little more power. Nice to see a serious rival.
    Love to see a review of the megastar but doubt you'd be able to get a hold of one.
    In a year or two I might look at upgrading to this or see if there's any announcement for a new installment to the sega or dark skys line and wait for that. Till then I'm happy with my flux and even when I upgrade I will continue using it or regift it.

  • @jeffthejeff7372
    @jeffthejeff7372 4 года назад +2

    Well i just got word that the twinkle star feature for the chrome disks that will give about a 1/3rd of the stars an enhancement will be available sometime mid-August 2020. I am seeing criticism on here about the price, but it doesn't appear Miller Engineering is able to mass market the DS1 at this point to bring down the price, so it's a rather nice upgrade from the Flux and still less than spending thousands of dollars on the next scale product. If you want to wear a VR headset on your head at night while in bed or mount an HD TV on your ceiling, I think you are in the wrong market for what this company is trying to accomplish. I have the northern hemisphere chrome, the moon disk, the galaxy disk, and the planets disk (and the scenic forest add on disk), and am very impressed. It's a novelty product, so you are going to pay a little more. If you can't afford it, than go with the flux but don't bash the price.

      Yes, you do an amazing job and you can see you spend hours perfecting your reviews. I sincerely thank you for them and that song is just an amazing add to the vid review. Totally fits. Awesome pick by you and thanks for letting me know the song. I'm definitely going to play it for my daughter after I finally choose one of these projectors I just can't seem to find the perfect 1.
      I'm looking for one with a speaker in it that slowly rotates the scene around and also lets you change colors if you want. Also want it to have all the different slides so you can change up the scenery for different effects but also has random lighting flashes you can add in. This combined with the speaker would allow you to softly hear the thunder rumbles along with the lightning flashes.
      I know that's a ton of features, but so what? Lol I bet if someone had all those features in a quality made machine for $150 bucks or so, they'd fly off the shelves. 😊

    • @markjdraper

      Yes that does sound like a great product...I don't think it exists at the moment. I have seen them with speakers built in but they're not very good quality.
      If you want a range of discs I would check out the Flulx (comparison vid if you've not seen it: ruclips.net/video/0RPzMIXlGk8/видео.html) as that's closer to your budget.
      Get a separate portable speaker (e.g. this one ruclips.net/video/ex0Ctf_IfuU/видео.html or this one ruclips.net/video/9abZQTdc804/видео.html) as that has the benefit of giving you decent sound quality plus you can take it with you when you travel.

    I'm so jealous of the people who already ordered. Having this on while on my death bed is a wish of mine. I've been obsessed with stuff like this since I visited my first planetarium as a kid. The main feature I want is the shooting stars but the cheap ones don't have that option. I have a progressive lung disease and when my time comes I can't think of a easier way to go then to be gazing at the stars with my kitty by my side. Wish it wasn't so expensive. I'd save up for it but I don't have enough time. I bought a cheap one on Amazon and it's joke. Very poorly made. Stuff like this you really get what you pay for.
