Reminds me of moms around the park fountain. I'm like "why are you all standing around burning up while the kids play in the water... moms deserve to cool off too."
I showed this to my husband (and he was annoyed because he had to stop playing with his new ear buds that I got him) and he was like "what are you trying to say?" I'm like nothing honey, I just thought it was funny" (but thinking I didn't even get a robe)
I'm going to casually play this for the rest of my family in about mid-November. And then again in mid-December. Then I'll watch it again on Christmas in my robe.
I was torn between laughing and crying. But when they got to the presents for the dog, laughing won out. Although, frankly, I buy not only all my own presents, but all the dog's too. 2020 is almost over, we're still here, and we're still moved to laugh and cry. That's a win. Hang in there!
It has been a long year! I’m filling my own stocking. Wrap up presents for yourself from Santa! Other adults will either deal with it, or ruin Christmas for the kids 😆
my mom broke down one year about not getting stocking stuffers and after that it finally clicked that she wasnt getting alot for christmas because she does everything, so now I load it with her favorite candies and teas
@@Balletified I don't take this as "materialistic". Moms usually don't get recognized is the point. We spend months trying to make everything special from birthdays to every single holiday. Getting them things that required a lot of thought, research and effort like an autographed baseball bat. I mean the least someone can do is get a meaningful gift for their mom/spouse. It doesn't have to be expensive at all(that would be materialistic), but we would like more of an effort than the clearance robe on black Friday by the store door. 🙄 I buy my own gifts though so I don't have this issue. 😂
@@savants08 Go over to SNL December to Remember Lexus commercial to see exactly WHY you should not buy anything for moms... or dads... or anyone for that matter.
When I was little, I realised my mother bought all her own presents (only a few) and my dad said he couldn't be bothered to wrap them, so she wrapped them herself, upset. So my brother and I secretly unwrapped them, and wrapped them back up in funny shapes to make her laugh. Now every year, I buy her a bunch of gifts, she always tells me I bought too much but I'm making up for over 30 years of a crappy disappointing marriage.
Sadly, this happens way more often. I have a dad who won't even be bothered to spend time with my mom. So I've decided to spend my life kind of compensating for the continuous loneliness. I do my best to make sure she feels seen and loved.
This is every bit as funny as it was 3 years ago 😂😂😂I’m happy to report that since it came out, and my family saw it, and watched me laugh at it so hard I couldn’t breath, they have stepped up their gift and stocking game tremendously the last couple years!! Thank you cast and writers of SNL, for shaming my family into doing so much better!!😂❤
It's been years since I even got a robe. One year, we bought our nephew and his best friend lots of nice Christmas gifts (they had been spending lots of time with my husband and helping out as 'roadies' for my husband's band). It was so great watching them enjoy their gifts. Then I gave my husband his gifts to open. Then my nephew said it was my turn, and expected my husband to give me a gift. As usual, he didn't get me a gift. My nephew honestly couldn't believe it, and the look on his face to me was so sad, because that was the day he learned what kind of guy his uncle really was 😒

My family did this to me one too many times. In 2018, I got fed up and didnt buy Christmas gifts for anyone. I used my Christmas bonus and went on a cruise. My kids were in shock. Now I get Christmas gifts from my kids.
This was definitely my family. Poor mom! When I was old enough, I tried to get my mom as many presents as her and I always made sure her stocking was as full as ours. Come one dad, pitch in! 😭🤣
This is no different from my life, my dad never knows what to get my mom, so he makes me go out and do the shopping for him. I don’t mind, of course, but he treats Valentines Day with little respect and “doesn’t think it’s a holiday”, anyway. He treats holidays like he’s having fun, but he’s all moody the next moment
my mom couldn’t stop laughing as she watched this and exclaiming “omg! it’s so true!”. i cried all the way to the mall. i’m sorry mom, you deserve more than i’ll ever be able to give you 💕
Just went through this, didn't even get a robe. The smile on kids' faces made all the effort worthwhile of course, but now I just want to crash and pass out. I don't really expect an expensive gift, but surely there is something moms can get to feel appreciated.
I'm 36 and this was the first year I could afford to get my mom presents. Not a ton but a nice little pile of things she genuinely liked. It felt great!! She always goes so far above and beyond even if she is kindof a bitch sometimes.
I feel you. I got a t shirt. An ugly, bought off of facebook men's small shirt that 3 of me could fit into. It's got a celtic knotwork raven that one of my kids says looks like one of our chickens. He ain't wrong. It kinda fucking hurts.
@@rosequartz4102 I would bet you're not 36, you sound about 14. If you are 36, it's pretty pathetic if this is the first year you got your mom a Christmas gift. Budgets exist for a reason, you could have definitely saved to afford ANYTHING for her long before this. And she goes "above and beyond" but is kind of a bitch sometimes...? Probably because she has a kid near 40 who never even got her a gift on Christmas and sounds super immature and ungrateful, and still doesn't see their parent as an actual person in their own right, who sometimes gets frustrated and has bad days. You sound bitchy just from this comment, so I guess she's just a human like you, huh?

Being a single parent means a $5 Amazon gift card, a candy bar (Hershey’s), and nothing from three kids respectively. God bless the art teachers and classroom teachers who help the kids make holiday gifts for parents. Those were the best gifts and the ones that mattered most. However, this year, being alive, healthy, and safe from eviction and hunger are more than adequate.
Years and years of that. For the past decade, I buy all kinds of stuff during the sales for me, I don't wrap it and I don't make myself wait. Except for this year, I've christmas cookie baked with grand kids. Low stress.
@@rosesweetcharlotte Thank you, Carly. 🥺♥️ I've thought about it before, but it feels so selfish. TBH, my mom has to force me into getting my annual haircut, bc I feel selfish even doing that & I'm a hairstylist. Crazy, I know. The first Christmas after I got a real job I gave my mom Obsession perfume. She had always used a knock-off because she couldn't afford the real thing. She cried.

The first Christmas after I got a real job working at a department store I think I was 16 or 17. I had never bought my parents anything for Christmas. I was so proud of myself when I gave them some nice stuff. Remember those gigantic wooden spoons and forks that hang on the wall? I got that for my mother along with a few other things and I bought my dad a cool liquor decanter shaped like a barrel. It was covered with nice leather, laid on its side on a stand and had six cool glass/leather shot glasses that hung on either side.
This morning I literally finally had a Christmas meltdown to my husband because I'm doing EVERYTHING and going insane while everybody else is having a jolly old time! I ran away and locked myself in the bathroom and am currently watching this from my tub 🤣🥴
It wasn't until I got older that I realized how much my mom does for everyone in my family. My dad and I conspire to get her a bunch of gifts every year cause we know she deserves it and we've spent so many Christmases being ungrateful and forgetting her
The family picture part kills me every time. I end up looking like this in all the Christmas pictures my family takes (no makeup, in a robe, hardly any sleep)! No time to get ready and pose nicely. That was so spot on!
This was so real it hurt. This year my husband didn't bother wrapping any presents at all for me, just put the amazon boxes straight under the tree. There were three boxes totol. One ended up being a gift for his brother, one was something he ordered for himself, and the gift he got me was sleep headphones because the white noise I put on at night bugs him. Gee thanks. I spent nearly two hours wrapping all the gifts I had bought for him and the family.
TELL ME ABOUT IT. My dad and brother refuse to learn how to wrap presents because "you and mom know how to do it". I'm paraphrasing, but it's basically just left to us women to do because it's easy that way...and your man needs to do better than that. Wow.
Indeed Andy! I had to show it to my wife, she laughed while nodding her head in agreement. Now I feel like I should go buy one more present for her. This is a win for SNL, and a win for retailers everywhere...
I just sent this to someone saying me every single Christmas except I don't even get a robe lol. I can laugh at it though, I'm sorry that it made you cry
@@justme315d If it makes you guys feel better, my mom never got any gifts either. Or she would sometimes buy herself something very practical. This year, I went all out on her gifts. I mean, I spent way too much. One day, your kids will do the same for you.
I’m glad I’m not the only one. I always wanted a robe but never even considered getting one because we simply couldn’t afford it.... the kids gifts always came first. I finally “splurged” on a $16 robe at Costco in a summer sale.
@@justme315d I never wanted my kids to spend their money on me, I've told them many, many times. I'm just like...hey, it would be nice if my stocking wasn't empty. Being the architect of an awesome Christmas for everyone else is exhausting and thankless, even if I adore my kids.
Thanks, SNL. After watching this with the family, I had the most bountiful Christmas ever!! And the gifts were wrapped instead of left in the bags the came in.
I don’t know about any other moms, but my family saw this video and my. Christmas significantly improved! Thanks SNL! We’ll be viewing this yearly as a reminder :)
It's ok to educate your kids to give presents and remind them to save some allowance to get you something. It's not selfish, it's how my mom raised me and I learned to have a lot of fun giving presents.
Omg, my brother and I always feel so bad every year cause we couldn’t get my mom any gifts, so this year we saved our money and got her an Apple Watch, fuzzy socks and a candle that she all loves, it was one of the most amazing things they ever happened
This video did more to stimulate spending on Moms this year than almost anything else, guaranteed. Look at SNL actually making a difference with their humor. ❤️
My husband didn't go through with getting me my already late christmas gift last year. He got a guitar and I was suppoed to get an effects peddle for my guitar. I'm currently going through a divorce and Im so happy. I'm a real human being again and no one can take that from me
Every mom around the globe sharing this video with their kids right now playing it off like “ain’t this a cute skit children”....I mean, that’s what I just did.
@@mkultra70 Just a German name. Not every German last name is Jewish. But also, my family _is_ Jewish, and we celebrate Christmas because of my dad and step dad. We always have. As a kid, it was my “dad’s holiday”, so I would go to his house.
The part about the stocking reminded me of my mom's growing up. Mom always put stuff in her own stocking. I didn't realize that until I got older and started putting a stocking together for her myself. I'm unsure why my dad never did it.
My sister and I both have well paying jobs this year and got my mom a bunch of gifts. I hope she likes them. Update: she loved them! She was so happy to get gifts and I think she got the most gifts out of anybody! She was amazed at how many gifts were for her and how thoughtful they all were. I’m glad my sister and I could give her a nice Christmas!
My mom’s stocking was never completely empty, but it was always the least full. I hated that. When I was a teenager, and I finally had a part-time job and had my own money, I always bought her extra things for her stocking, so her stocking always looked more full from then on. ❤
SAME!!! I remember the first holiday after I got my job and could finally get my mom presents!!! I went a little overboard but there were a lot of things I knew she wanted but just never bought for herself!!
The phrase, "You guys didn't have to," really needs to go. I think last year was the first time I let go of the mom guilt (well, most of it) and gave my daughter an idea of simple things I like. She actually thanked me.
Feeling this sketch so hard this morning but also laughing at how real it is. I had nothing to open today and it’s not about the gift itself but that no one thought about Mom is the bummer. Not even a robe.
my mom's birthday was the day after Christmas and my dad was always "You have to get your one birthday and one Christmas present for your mom because whenever she was a kid people would say 'This is your birthday AND your Christmas present' "
My mom's birthday is five days before Christmas and my grandma's is the day after and the same thing happened to them as kids. So basically we buy a lot of gifts during the holidays lol
This is why I always make sure I get my mum a bunch of nice things, she's so supportive and wonderful for the whole year she atleast deserves a really nice hamper filled with jigsaws, chocolates and bubble bath! This year I got her £70 worth of creams and moisturizers, totally worth it to see the genuine smile on her face!
Yeah i think the point of this sketch is that mom put in a lot of effort and did everything and they barely think of her. Just let her know you care and spend the same amount on her as you do your dad/siblings ect.
It's not even about the material items, it's about the thought and effort behind it. So, if you can't get presents, you could do other acts of service like making her a cup of coffee or being the one to cook Christmas breakfast for the whole family. Doing small, thoughtful things to show you care, telling her how much you appreciate her, and taking something off her shoulders are great gifts too.
My favorite (while married) Christmas morning comment, ever: Mom, why aren't there any presents in your stocking? Second favorite comment: Mom, why are there presents under the tree from you to you? Once I got rid of the horrid hubby (for other very bad reasons, not his lackluster Christmas efforts) none of that bothered me, ever again. The kids are great, and I totally don't mind putting in the extra effort to make their Christmas morning awesome. It's so different and so much easier doing it on my own, and so much more rewarding for them to have a positive and happy holiday with no negativity. We put up the decorations together, we wrap presents together, and it's in the spirit of what the holiday is about. Family. We don't even care about presents, it's just happy, heartfelt family fun. ❤
That's wonderful!! I love the holidays but I don't celebrate them and haven't since 2012. My thoughtless adult son never cared enough to brighten my Christmas, my birthday, Mother's Day and Valentine's Day. He ignored those days. My then husband was thoughtless too and even though he had a good paying job he had the balls to buy me a pair of cheap Walmart house slippers for Christmas one year and literally left them in the bag with the tag on them. I raised my son by myself and made sure that the holidays were special for him. He never EVER helped me decorate the tree though. I never even got a card from him.

The only thing that could have made this more true-to-life is if that mom had an antidepressant-induced smile on her face.
Hit a little too close to home...my husband and I watched in awkward silence.
😬, wishing you better days ahead 🙏
I honestly hope my exes watched this. They were shit at giving gifts.
LMFAO
I showed this to my husband (and he was annoyed because he had to stop playing with his new ear buds that I got him) and he was like "what are you trying to say?" I'm like nothing honey, I just thought it was funny" (but thinking I didn't even get a robe)
This is the first year I actually got stocking stuffers because I made my husband watch this video.
I'm going to casually play this for the rest of my family in about mid-November. And then again in mid-December. Then I'll watch it again on Christmas in my robe.
That was on the clearance rack. 3 sizes too big. With some saying that only a teenager would understand on the back. 😂
But I didn’t even scream *because I keep the pain inside of me* damn. Snl got real.
I legit laughed out loud for like 2 minutes, then played the rest of the video. 😂👍🏻
Hell yeah they did.

This is the saddest, most accurate representation of a mother’s Christmas I’ve ever seen. I burst out in an ugly cry. It’s been a very long year. 😭
I was torn between laughing and crying. But when they got to the presents for the dog, laughing won out. Although, frankly, I buy not only all my own presents, but all the dog's too. 2020 is almost over, we're still here, and we're still moved to laugh and cry. That's a win. Hang in there!
it made me not want to be a mom any time soon 😁
It has been a long year! I’m filling my own stocking. Wrap up presents for yourself from Santa! Other adults will either deal with it, or ruin Christmas for the kids 😆

“ITS PRESENTS FOR THE DOOOOOG” my vibe
@@Balletified I don't take this as "materialistic". Moms usually don't get recognized is the point. We spend months trying to make everything special from birthdays to every single holiday. Getting them things that required a lot of thought, research and effort like an autographed baseball bat. I mean the least someone can do is get a meaningful gift for their mom/spouse. It doesn't have to be expensive at all(that would be materialistic), but we would like more of an effort than the clearance robe on black Friday by the store door. 🙄 I buy my own gifts though so I don't have this issue. 😂

Now every year, I buy her a bunch of gifts, she always tells me I bought too much but I'm making up for over 30 years of a crappy disappointing marriage.

This is my mom's favorite skit at the moment. She keeps saying "I feel like this all the time". I should make some money and get her more presents.
Yeah i think the point of this sketch is that mom put in a lot of effort and did everything and they barely think of her. Just let her know you care and spend the same amount on her as you do your dad/siblings ect.
@ to be fair, moms often do get the short end of the stick.
My favorite (while married) Christmas morning comment, ever:
Mom, why aren't there any presents in your stocking?
@@sandrajohnson2489 Wow, y'all comments along with what I see around me irl makes me think I should just not build any family with a man. Time to go solo or build my own clan of caring girl friends I guess.
Big hugs to you. This is too common in our society.
@@blackrain1999 I'm 56 years old, and only once have I been told by a divorcee that single parenthood is harder, and that was online. Widows have told me that it is.
The audience's realization and understanding of the joke at 0:31 is priceless
This is one of the best SNL skits of all time. It does ring embarrassingly true.
thats the cutest little dog I've ever seen.
I know right!
Seriously! Does anyone know what kind of dog that is? She is the cutest! 💕
@@debradownes634 It’s Chloe Fineman’s shiba inu puppy! His name is Peach!
I didn't realize how lucky I am, till I saw this. My husband and I always split chores evenly, he.always offers to step in if I'm not feeling well or stressed, and he has a heart condition and a bunch of other medical problems. He also always spoils me every holiday with a bunch of great gifts. It makes me sad and upset that so many women are being neglected by their families. Husbands need to step up, because if my husband who is sick and in bed a lot can, then healthy men definitely can.
Same. My husband spoils me every Christmas and has since our first Christmas together 16 years ago. It makes me sad so many women allow their families to treat them this way.
If he has a heart condition, may be you should do all of the chores or pay someone else to do them.
@@michaeljordan6008 We can't afford to pay someone else to do them, and I do as many of them as I can, I am also caring for my two young children, my husband when he is sick and trying to run an online business, to help pay bills.
A mom definitely wrote this sketch. Also, Chloe is criminally underutilized.
Agreed.
It was written by two men as an apology to their moms lol.
Chloe and I share the same acting teacher!
From the writing, to the editing / timing, to the performing.... this is one of the best pieces of comedy I've seen in a long time. Bravo!
