The switch from the bright colors and steadicam during the dinner to the more muted colors and a hand-held camera during the "cruel reality" bits makes this sketch even funnier.
They always do that in these kind of sketches. The baby delivery one on the Amy Schumer episode, the one on the Emma Thompson episode about two generations of motherhood, and the recent one on the Benedict Cumberbatch episode where a mom lectures her daughter on underage drinking, but we see flashbacks of the mom being a drunk party girl in the 1990s while her mom (Kate McKinnon) was a David Bowie fangirl in the 1970s.

As someone who grew up with 5 brothers and sisters and only 2 bathrooms, the “Lock the door!” and “Get out the bathroom!” are way too relatable.

@@Levacque Right! There were 4 girls and 2 boys, (I’m the oldest girl) and my sisters NEVER felt the need to knock. My brothers always knocked because I guess they never wanted to see the horror of their sisters on the toilet or naked, which makes sense lol.

My family. By which I mean my long term boyfriend's family. There's no kids. The grandkids live far away. Everyone gets along really well. Even the shy,quiet cousin has been coming out of her shell. There are often other guests. Single, older people. I'm the youngest in my mid fifties. It's nice, quiet happy. I'm very lucky as my family of origin was deeply messed up and there were always drunken arguments and resentment around. Gifts got broken, more resentment created.

Top ten skits SNL all time. Being real and not necessarily poltically correct is hilarious. The contrast between the family being phony at dinner and showing actual real family reality side by side, classic. All the actors were great of course Eddie Murphy kills all the reactions seemed so real. Ive watched 20 times still cracking up.
