I need to tell this story. When I was a young girl my parents divorced and every other week I had to go see my father and his mother. My grandmother was German and did not speak or read English. Every time I went over my Dad would leave with his friends or whatever he did and I would be stuck with my grandmother and I did not like it because she made me sew or do some kind of craft. It was only a few minutes but it seemed like hours. When I was 13 she passed and the visits ceased. I grew, met a great guy who was serving in the USMC and married him, we had two boys then he was called for deployment! I was frantic and worried but my Mother said to busy myself and she sent me a box of fabric! I made a quilt and as I was sewing on the binding it hit me, my Grandmother gave me a gift and I didn't realize it until that moment! Piecing and quilting that quilt by hand gave me peace! I wanted to go dig her up an apologize for not appreciating her time and skill! My husband is state side and all is well! Thank you for reading! Take care and stay safe!❤😊

I missed this show live, but I just wanted to add something that I use and have never had a problem. I discovered that crayola fine tip WASHABLE markers always seem to come out. I use them for both quilting and garment sewing, with pre-washed and unwashed fabric and I have never had anything linger. I suppose since it is supposed to come out of your kids clothes, it comes out of fabric the same way. Every time I tell someone this, they look at me in horror, but I would strongly suggest you test it out. It's been perfect for me!

Madam sew and Crayola ultra washable markers work very well. I used them on a quilt I hand quilted. It took me so long I was worried. Everything came out in the wash.

Read when using chalk o liner, you can mix chalk & cinnamon for use on light-colored fabrics, then wash out.

You apparently have not tried Crayola Washable markers. They will be cheap for the next month as kids buy them for school. I have tried them with great success. TEST first, of course. More than once I have left them on quilt tops for several weeks, then washed the quilts and the marks have entirely gone. I have also used colored pencils that kids buy for school. They come in so many colors that I find a contrast for any colors in my quilts. Please try these and report back in a few months because these products are wildly cheaper than the ones sold for quilting.

You do have to wash with detergent to remove it. I would not use them. Water won't do it like with the mark b gone.

Make sure you get the fine point or your lines will be heavy, I have used them many times.

Air Erase pens go away the more humid your area. In FL can be only 30 minutes! 💚 great show Alex!

I have had trouble with a name brand colored chalk, especially yellow. The purple and blue felt tip “air erase” types disappear in normal air temperatures. But…..when cold and/or wet the marks sometimes reappear. I quilt Quilts of Valor which require washing before presentation. That means when the veteran washes it the marks will be seen. I definitely believe the fabric manufacturing process plays a large part - in recent years prewashing has been a nightmare. One backing 108 by 108 (top name brand fabric) needed 5 overnite soaks and rinses before I could use it. As Alex said over and over - test, test, test. I currently use Sewline pens in green and white, limit the markings and sometimes they are difficult to erase. I don’t trust any others for areas that are seen in the project.

I have had friction pens leave ghost markings twice. Both times it came out when I washed the quilt. I still mostly only use where it won't be seen.

Thanks for sharing Alex . I agree with there not being a definitive answer...yet 😊 You brought up pounce but no comments on this as of yet. I have one but haven't tried it yet.

If you live near a body of water the air erase only lasts a couple of hours
