    Part 2 will go straight to streaming and 3 and 4 will never get made. I have to point out that the state of the movie industry saddens me. A lot of good quality films are flopping - people just don't want to leave the house anymore (with a few rare exceptions ). As long as films go right to streaming, nobody is going to the theater anymore.

      They already finished 3, but its increasingly unlikely that chapter 4 will happen if Costner's outside resources stop giving him money. He may have to put up all the money himself for the last one, which means he will have spent an upwards of 100 M or more by the end of this saga.

    • @Will_Roose
      @Will_Roose 3 месяца назад +1

      The money they spent on 3 has already been burned at this point, so the filming they are doing in August may be delayed or reworked to end the series. If not, Costner will have embarrassed himself with the giant loss of money and a vanity project that wasn't even completed. At least Coppola only made one film and sold off his wine company so he wouldn't have to bet on Megalopolis being a sucsess.

      I only went and seen it in theater because it wasn’t available to stream. I didn’t care what it’s about. Obviously it’s about the American west judging the trailers. It’s really good even though it’s not really about one thing. It’s several stories in a hard time of our United States history. These stories are probably gonna intersect if all the films happen. However, probably would be better as a series rather than long individual films.

    I'm not sure why critics are killing this movie. My only issue, and it's not even really an issue for me, is that it feels more like an epic TV series more so than a movie theater experience, but other than that, I thought it was really good. We need more well done westerns, it's an under explored genre presently.

  • @jb8280
    @jb8280 3 месяца назад +3

    I saw it and liked it for the most part. But, what kept gnawing at me was the episodic nature of the film and how in this day and age this whole Horizon project would have been better suited as a limited series. On tv, this would have been a bigger hit than Yellowstone. With four films, you could break that down into a 12 episode season that would have fit into a nice spot between Yellowstone and Deadwood(the best western series ever). It’s not too late to retool Horizon into a series and salvage the lost revenue. Costner needs to pivot. Less vanity, more sanity.

    Too many plot lines, not enough connection, too many characters to bother getting invested in one, or two. The movie makes no sense. The western fans who Kevin Costner made angry were those who like exciting and beautifully filmed westerns like 2007's "3:10 to Yuma" and 1992's "Unforgiven", which are movies that both managed to have fully developed plots & characters in run times of about 2 hrs each. But Horizon Part 1 failed at doing a decent job of developing either of those important aspects of a movie in its 3 HOUR run time. And that's why Horizon is a huge box office bomb!

      @@mrb0775 I disagree. Horizon isn't a character study, its an odyssey. I understood that from the trailers. The film has its own style, there's really nothing to compare it to. I didn’t find the movie long at all, each scene did what it needed to and moved on. The characters are charming and well portrayed. Its not a film trying to reinvent anything nor is it trying to be the greatest western of all time. Y'all hating on this film as if it attacked your character or something. Same for Top Gun 2 you can argue. The old saying "everything old is new again" comes to mind. There were no big Western epics in years and Costner was banking on those people who were craving something else than the usual campy and dumb comic book films.

    Do you want my real opinion or are you just saying that? If you do here it is. I'm furious. I understand that financially it didn't make much moony so they got scared. That does not make it ok that they pulled this one and there are no updates and we are two days out from the original date. This movie is long and a bit slow but I don't care because it's really good. I understand that the marketing was bad but just because the marketing team failed does not automatically mean the movie is bad.

    I'm a Kevin Costner fan since "American Flyers". I just watched Horizon 1, today on 10/4/2024 on Prime. I liked it, and I want more❣️ Though the movie was all over the place & drawn out, while setting up the characters & plot. I'm disappointed & a bit raged regarding the fate of the other chapters. Now I wished I didn't watch it at all!
    Also, I feel burned of my time, especially when lately a saga comes along and it's incomplete!
    Sorry they're loosing money as some of the viewers now have lost precious time in their own lives.

    What could make sense is having someone edit these 2 three hr films into a 5 or 6 episode series that drops every week.

  • @KatieF307
    @KatieF307 3 месяца назад

    I must admit that I have not had a chance to see the movie yet. I did note that in my area, it is hard to find a place that is running the movie more than once or twice in a day.
    To echo what a few others have said, I believe that a lot of Yellowstone fans are really angry with him. Regardless of the real story as to who screwed whom regarding the delays with Yellowstone's production and story line, people will associate all of the drama about whether Costner was or was not going to appear. Make no mistake, Costner was great in the role of John Dutton, but nothing Costner has said has made the Yellowstone situation any better. I would not be surprised in any way if they continued the role of John Dutton slipping in Josh Lucas in Costner's role. Lucas already portrayed the character at a younger age, so it is not a stretch.
    The other thing that may be detracting from people going to see Horizon part 1 is the length. Going three hours can be harder for some of the older population who are most likely to go see it. The other issue is that I seem to recall a similar tv series chronicling the journey of the early settlers traveling and relocating to the Wild West. Oh yeah, that series 1883...
    I think there is the risk that people may also tune out as they wonder if parts 2-4 will actually come to fruition. It may come down to Costner approaching Apple, Netflix, or Amazon in order to sell it to them, and then proceed in a mini-series format, or a complete series. History should have demonstrated a few things to Costner. I remember his version of Wyatt Earp and Kurt Russell's version of Wyatt Earp in Tombstone. No contest as to which one was more popular. Kurt Russell was totally the version of Wyatt Earp I would watch over and over again.
    It is likely too late for Costner to salvage anything from Yellowstone, or Horizon. Now if Sheridan wanted to really mess with Costner, he would go back and reshoot every scene with Costner as Dutton, with Josh Lucas as Dutton. That is not likely to happen, but Costner needs to win over the folks who are ticked off at him about Yellowstone, right or wrong.

    I saw chapter 1 on Sunday and was disappointed. I too am a Costner fan and went because i was expecting another epuc western from him. • @patmccrotch5373
      @patmccrotch5373 2 месяца назад

      The common thread is that at some point, all the events will converge onto the Horizon land. That's why at least one character from each plotline had the poster or a piece of the poster. I think the flaw is that this didn't feel like a movie experience. It felt more like an epic miniseries meant for streaming or tv. If you split this up into 3, one hour episodes, it would've made more sense to people, and would've been easier for people to follow.

    There's this whole cottage industry on youtube thats CONSTANTLY declaring that either one, or both Star Wars or the "M-SHE-U' are 'Dead",..LOL!
    I mean there's literally HOURS of content across various channels that love to use clickbait thumbnails with the word "DISASTER" in full caps to describe whatever Disney is doing at the moment.
    And Yet,..nothing Disney has done has failed on this scale!!
    More people will have watched all of The Acolyte" then will have seen Horizon in its first ten days of theatrical release.. the MCU movie "The Marvels" didnt flop this hard when it was released last November.
    Horizon is a quality film,.(IMHO) ive seen in and think its a flawed but powerful first chapter and im nOT even a fan of Yellowstone,,.LoL!
    I was going to write some silly , snide comment about modern western fans being far too busy wearing red MAGA hats to go watch this,.but that really not the problem with this movie.
    I think it was poorly advertised and probably shouldve been released over say,.Thanksgiving and hopefully its audience will give it some stronger word of mouth in its secondary market release so we can see the rest of this story.
