  • Fast charging is increasingly important to buyers of electric vehicles, but high-energy legacy lithium-ion batteries are still limited in how fast they can recharge. These limitations are largely due to fundamental constraints of battery design. QuantumScape’s technology has been designed to overcome many of these constraints, to unlock a step-change in fast-charging performance that has profound implications for EV adoption and the potential to win over a segment of drivers who might otherwise hesitate to make the switch.
In this webinar, QS VP of Product, Will Hudson presents new QS fast charging test data and then discusses the topic with a panel of battery experts: Otmar Bitsche, the Head of E-Mobility at Porsche AG and Dr. Paul Albertus, Associate Director of the Maryland Energy Innovation Institute and Assistant Professor in Chemical & Biomolecular Engineering at the University of Maryland. Journalist Katie Fehrenbacher moderates the discussion.
Webinar presented live on Jan. 27, 2022

How does this have so few views? Isn't this one of the most promising new battery technologies?

It is. Affordable BEVs with range of 700 km (500 miles) are going to be a huge evolution and will contribute to EV adoption around the world.

Does anyone have more in-depth info on a Company called Sion Power and their Licerion Battery? Their CEO claims that even QS will have to approach them for the manufacturing processes Patents!? I can’t find third party info on their 17Ah, 400w/kg battery especially since it was announced back in March of 2021 and nothing really since…🤔 They claim to already have a battery ready but it sounds to good to be true… anyone? Thx!

800 cycles? Aren't solid state batteries supposed to in theory last forever or 10000cycles? whats the advantage over lithium if lithium already have 1500 cycles which almost the double?

    • @RyanWilliams222
      @RyanWilliams222 5 месяцев назад

In theory, the advantages are increased energy density, increased safety, reduced DC fast charging times, and improved low temperature performance. But it all depends on what it costs in the end, and whether they can achieve mass manufacturing.

I’m an Investor and huge fan of QS. However I must say something about this Webcast… the technical portion was great however, the last 10 minutes or so were less than stellar and did not put QS in a good light at all. It seems that the ‘players’ could have rehearsed what, when and how to say it beforehand. If I was a first-time watcher I would walk away torn because the characters in the Webcast couldn’t agree on content. Not the best performance from QS unfortunately!

I agree as well. The presentation by Will Hudson was excellent. The others, not so much.
Everybody knows why quick charging is important. There is no need to emphasize that. The technical details are what's important and that's what's going to sell the company, IMO.

There were 2 things in particular that stood out to me as ‘disturbing’, Art, the Porsche rep, touts the great progress that they have been making with their Silicone anode, while I understand that they, Porsche, need to diversify, that comment should have never been made in a QS SSB presentation and then he literally showcases the shortcomings of todays Superchargers since they need to upgraded to 400-500 kw. Well, that is only true if you take a 100kwh battery because if you have an 80kwh pack a 4 C rate equates to about 320kw hence a 350kw charger should be sufficient after considering losses and while Will tried to convey that it came across as them “arguing” and totally out of place again at a QS presentation…
I think that they should have concentrated on the strength of QS SSB’s instead of highlighting the existing weaknesses of Infrastructure, development of other Battery technology etc, none of which portrays Strength which is very unfortunate since the Technology is truly amazing!

As a shareholder i'm disappointed. It's clear your well behind peers in the solid state battery field.
      1. Data showing a single layer 70x80mm (Nov 2021 QS was using 10 layer cells)
      2. >400 fast charge is less than 800 previous stated.
      3. SES already demonstrated a single charge SSB that could travel 752 miles on a single charge.
      4. volumetric energy density (Wh/l) gravimetric energy density (Wh/kg) appear to be must much lower than in previous slide decks.
      5. No data around multi-layered "Dozens of layers"
      6. No update on scaling from lab cells to vehicle cells.
Battery Report 2021 - Does show QS with the highest theoretical battery.

@@brianseattle 3. I believe you're thinking about ONE (Our Next Energy) which uses a hybrid design (LFP + "wet-cell" LiOn). They are not solid state as far as I can tell, and therefore don't have the cold weather and charging advantages of SS batteries.
