Not really, unit cost would actually end up *far* higher as after the R&D the British Government would only be buying a couple of hundred at the very most. One thing people do not realise about aircraft design, especially modern military aircraft, is how insanely expensive it is, and that design cost has to be rolled into the unit cost of the aircraft, otherwise the company designing and building it is not going to make any profit. On top of this the usual figure of the F-35 project generally quoted by the media includes R&D, the total cost of all units produced (projected), and the projected cost per aircraft of Operating said aircraft, including spares, for 25 years..... The insane cost of the F-35 project is offset by the fact that a little over two thousand aircraft will be sold, bringing the per hull cost right down as the R&D cost is absorbed by far more units sold. A purely British 6th Generation aircraft will not cost any less, but will be much, much more expensive per unit. Actual per unit cost of F-35B's at the moment is around 90 million USD with the C's at 80 million. F35 is more expensive per hour to operate, 36,000 USD compared to 22,000 USD of the F-15, but not the three times more than I have seen some quote. Last time I looked 3 x 22,000 = 66,000!
Hypothetical: A possible answer to CCP China's building up artificial reefs as armed bases. The US has a 'mothball fleet' of various ships. Many of these being Aircraft Carriers; why not place these in strategic locations as in the Senkaku Islands. Use F35 B's (SVTOL) as ship base fighter deterrents . These Carriers can be provisioned to support the fighters . Also; they can place two Carriers in the now warming waters of the North West Passage to counter Russian refurbishing and building bases to cement their intentions in this area. These Carriers can be provisioned by Canada/US/Scandinavian countries.
Glad you mentioned that, that's why the USN destroyer is floating with the group , its state of the art Aegis missile-defense system and the Naval Integrated Fire Control - Counter Air, or NIFC-CA, a program designed to link U.S. Navy ships and various airborne sensors, such as the F-35, into a single integrated sensor network which will work in tandem with their F35s, how it works ! a forward flying F35 detects and tracks a target , sends back target data tracks to the group parked well over the horizon , and beyond the range of their own ships sensors , allowing them to engage at maximum distance , Note long rang carrier killers need some serious technology , detection , targeting, tracking , navigation basically they need an assortment of systems like satellites which is one part, its the guidance , more so how do the Chinese make course alterations to hit a moving target in a vast open space ?
@@1IbramGaunt I hope you’re right, however everything I’ve read says China’s anti ship missiles are a real threat. Just as we were caught off guard by Exocet missiles in the Falklands, I pray the same doesn’t happen again in the South China Sea.
@@Crazy_Worlds we didn't get caught off-guard in the Falklands at all, HMS Sheffield was CARRYING Exocets of her own, what she wasn't carrying though was anything that could shoot down an incoming one effectively. Now though, every ship in that strike-group will have something capable of doing so, including our OWN Type 45 destroyers with their Phalanx turrets and Sea-Ceptor missiles, along with some of the most powerful radar and detection gear ever fitted to a warship. The American destroyer is a welcome addition to the force, don't get me wrong, but it's hardly the only thing there that can defend against such threats; as for the Chinese, I've no doubt whatsoever they have powerful anti-ship missiles, I just think the "Hypersonic" part is bullsh*t, but I guess we'll probably find out for sure about that in a few months
@@1IbramGaunt That’s my point, we had no defence against Exocets. And having a weapon doesn’t mean there’s an effective defence against it. Hitting a hypersonic or even just a supersonic missile with another missile is incredibly difficult given the rapidly changing vectors and enormously fast closing speeds. The US has been developing anti shipping missile missiles as a matter of priority to protect their carrier groups. They have a missile defence system, but as far as I know not one that can counter the flight profile of a hypersonic missile. Hence the US and the UK are now trying to develop laser based defence systems to counter this new threat. This is also the reason why the latest destroyers and our aircraft carriers have shifted to diesel electric, to provide enough electrical energy to operate the new high powered laser weapons.

Essentially they are correct. Fixed wing aircraft on board RN Carriers are not stowed on Deck in port, they are either stowed below decks, or landed at ground air bases before she makes port and flown out to the ship later when she is at sea. So no, I would not expect to see Aircraft on deck on a British Carrier entering or leaving port.

You can only train new pilots on a new aircraft so fast. THAT is what is happening at the moment. Most of the F-35B airframes are currently being used to train FAA and RAF pilots to fly the type. Here is how it goes, FIRST you have to train the new Instructors. Then you have to train the new pilots and new deck crews/ground crews, maintenance personel and other support staff required to keep those aircraft in the air. That includes getting many people up to date with some very complex engineering and electronics. It takes years to get a new aircraft into service BECAUSE of all the training that is required not only to fly that aicraft, but to support it, maintain it, and to train the support, maintenance and flight personnel. And you cannot get ANY of that training done till you have actual AIRCRAFT..... Simulators are all very well and useful, but nothing beats actually flying, or working on the aircraft in question. So no, it is not a total Tory fuckup, but because the UK is getting back into the Carrier game with a new aircraft they have never operated before, on a brand new class of ship.

Just stay out of range of those Chinese DF100 hypersonic missiles!
Yeah yeah hypersonic my arse
Urh where were the BBC?
Busy repeating the 6 am weather forecast and letting us have a look at Sneak Peak!
The BBC are busy making their documentary " British imperialists set off to oppress the world again " whilst thinking " if only they had spent that money on our pathetic million pound salaries that we can barely survive on ! ". 😊🇬🇧👍🇺🇸
The beeb have a crew on board making a documentary about the voyage.
@@michaeldillon3113 get a grip old chap. Many of us have been brought up to watch the B.B.C. Not that bloodŷ ITV commercial rubbish…..
@@PhilbyFavourites sorry what I forgot to say was - the BBC could redeem itself by sacking Gary Lineker and use his salary plus expenses to buy a third aircraft carrier !😂
Check the Star Wars Imperial march for the QE carrier on my channel. Darth Vader would be proud.
Waiting for the Next leak.
Let's show those 2 CCP antique Sampan's how to sail
Go US
Where are the F-35s
Royal Navy procedure apparently is to fly them in once the ships are at sea.
Putin reckons there nothing more than target practice,Russias new hypersonic missile system makes these very redundant.
No such thing as a hypersonic missile you wingnut
Not quite as wonderful as days of your - the ship's side is not as good as one might expect after a period alongside and prior to deployment - and the RN was definately fidgeting and not standing at ease - the SRs were the worst all out shone by the USMC. NBG.
I wonder which scrapyard it'll end up in, anyway it'll be good target practice for the enemies while it lasts!!!
Great description of the entire Chinese sh*t-bucket Navy there
@@1IbramGaunt who's talking about China?? I was thinking more like the landlocked country of Mongolia!!!
Ha ha ha. (what a wan ker)
@@jonparsons6818 well there's no need to get angry with me, just because you don't like the truth, yeah I'm sure that Russia and China are shit scared ha ha
LOL. No aircraft.
Pretty normal for aircraft carriers entering or leaving port, the aircraft land once they're out at sea.
"LOL". Helicopters count as aircraft last time I checked. "LOL". No British aircraft carrier has ever kept her jet aircraft on deck whilst tied up in port, they'll have either joined her later on at sea after she set off or will have been below deck in the hangar. "LOL". So, now that's cleared up, got any other intelligent informed comments to make? "LOL"?
Essentially they are correct. Fixed wing aircraft on board RN Carriers are not stowed on Deck in port, they are either stowed below decks, or landed at ground air bases before she makes port and flown out to the ship later when she is at sea.
So no, I would not expect to see Aircraft on deck on a British Carrier entering or leaving port.
Welcome to the Wrath of PLAN .... If u come to SCS. Just a day before PLAN commissioned three new nuclear submarine, and destroyer.
Yeah yeah sure
China didn't do anything when Indonesia sent out its warships and war planes against the china coast guard and maritime militia. lol. They'll do nothing again but moan and whine and propaganda about this.
Plus this fleet will have its own nuclear sub joining it too with the trident nuclear ballistic deterrents on board.
@@jaygonzales8258 damn right 👍
@@1IbramGaunt problem is with brainwashed and informational isolated CCP sympathisers and supporters is that they actually believe the propaganda CCP spews out. People in free open societies have apply a lot more critical thinking and questions when their free open government starts some sort of propaganda or a "narrative". We know government isn't perfect that's why we try limit it! But sounds like mainland chinese are taught to believe the CCP is their savior and messiah and keeps letting expand into an over bloated government with increasing less oversight, accountability or flexibility to correct course.
I mean we don't even have a presidents or prime ministers dance children perform but China got a Mao and now a xijingping dance lol. @@jaygonzales8258 couldn't agree more
we can only manage 8 or 9 F35s for its maiden voyage, as the yanks will have ten on board so its a total tory fuck up
It is what it is, we still have plenty to be proud of just HAVING a British carrier with British planes on it again
Sorry, but that is not a thing you can fucking accomplish by clicking your fingers and screaming Labour is my masterbation fantasy' in the mirror three times.....
