The pilot ejected ok, though probably had a sore back for a few days! I guess the military air accident investigation branch investigation will release a report in the near future with more details.

It's a good step forward for the RN, you cant fault the effort. Now HMS QE is back, normally the ship will be in refit for 18 to 24 months. Maybe it should be a chance to get EMALS and arrester gear fitted, I know despite the forward fitting mounts for EMALS it could be upto 3 years before she is back in service. But for the long term i would be beneficial, plus get her crew trained up on on US carriers for CATBAR operations. I do get the feeling the MOD aren't so fussed about F35b more then the carrier variant.

Deployments have always varied in length, regardless of vessel type for decades. If you can get more out of a crew through rotations or shorter more frequent deployments then it’s worth it.

@@brianarnold3250 Yes if they're only going to be there for a short period, they may keep their aircraft aboard.
When they're going to be there for an extended period of time, after returning from deployment for example, then they aren't going to keep their aircraft aboard to be stuck there for potentially months.
Not even sure why you're arguing this, it's well known this is what they do and it's the reason they've entered port without its complement of F-35.

Yet 3 US carriers are now deployed with over 200 planes, the UK now has.. NONE.

In the early 80s and well before the UK beloved a much larger and capable Navy. The UK denuded itself of a first rate navy. Its current carrier s can't give the full functions of a modern carrier. It is the product of a series of poor device by its government to reduce costs. Even now, there are rumbling misgivings about it....you got a poor carrier. Design.

At lease there is a bit more hangar space on the carrier and a £100 missing from the Treasury.

Get rid of the ski ramp & the F35's, & equip the ship with some reliable jets that have half the operating costs of the F35's.

Haven't heard of anything about it only running on one of the gas turbines, although it also has 4 diesel engines so it's not really going to be limping if that's the case.
Aircraft aboard carriers crash fairly regularly too, that's not unusual, the F-35 has a pretty good record so far compared to many fighters to be honest.
