Honda City vs Skoda Slavia: Ride, Handling & Performance Compared

  • By popular demand we have two sedans battling it out in today’s test - the Skoda Slavia and the Honda City. The Saliva is coming off the back of a draw against its sibling, the Kushaq. But now it’s time to take on the champion of our cornering test, the City. Some points to keep in mind are that the City we have today is the CVT Petrol while the City Diesel manual was the car that initially impressed around the corner. Also the Slavia that we pitched against the Kushaq was the 1.5 TSI while today we have the 1.0 TSI automatic which is the better match to the City, both in terms of price and performance. Will the smaller engined Slavia fare better around the corner? Will the larger engined City run away from the baby Slavia? We certainly found out.

    Just a suggestion - For acceleration, compare their manuals, not the automatics for a proper comparison. As everyone knows the CVT is significantly slower.

    A few days ago, I recommended Skoda Slavia to my friend and then we both went to Skoda showroom. As soon I entered the showroom, 3 Slavia were parked outside and 2 inside and the looks of Slavia really disappointed me. Honda City looks far better than Slavia. Interior of Top Model of Slavia doesn't give the premium feel of what City gives with its base model itself. Rear seat is far more comfortable in Honda City. In Slavia, Nothing is ergonomically placed. Auto AC control, Touch system, Cruise Control, etc. You will have to learn to get used to everything in Slavia. Cruise control placement is impractical and it is for left side steering wheel drive system, in Slavia. But, in Honda City, everything is placed very ergonomically and everything is very easy to use. Quality of material is also much better in Honda City. Door shut sound in Slavia seems like as if door is of very old car (I checked everything with different Slavia parked there). But, in Honda City door shut sound is much better and premium than Slavia.
    Because of these many differences, my friend cancelled the plan of Slavia.
    All those questening about Honda quitting India, I don't think so because just now Honda has introduces new HRV. So, Honda is not going to leave any soon ✌😉

      Great spot of the very faint speedo numbers! Good catch. At 70kmph all my attention is focused on getting the corner right and handling any understeer/oversteer that creeps in. So the bits with me talking to the camera were shot at a slower speed after we finished the proper test runs, for safety of everyone involved and especially for the safety of my camera guy sitting in the back seat and the camera equipment rolling around with him. All the slow motion shots with the fixed camera angle are of the original runs at 65kmph and 70kmph.

    Funniest part is when they are trying to defame the other car. 3:43 as if they are the head of engineering of Honda or Skoda. The reality is the maximum they can do is just push the accelerator to the floor with whole force they have in the legs. Enjoyed when they fight on the torque or engine cc as if they have engineered it but the reality is they even dont know the mechanism behind to release the clutch . These kinds of channels have started from 2000's and they are now in uncountable numbers on youtube. Seeing their expressions made us feel that they are the god of Automobiles. Respect, You are the Automobile gods and no other people can own or dont understand what torque, handling or a car made up of. 🤣🤣..4:33, abey l*du chando , Atleast, try to talk properly. What the takeaway for me is that there isn't much difference between the 2 in a lot of aspects. However what gives slavia the edge is that it has some good to have features which city lacks.
    The previous comparison used to be between city and verna and it was always said go for city if you are looking for a spacious and comfortable practical family car. Go for Verna if you are looking for features and sportier experience. And the Indian market thrives on former 2 aspects.
    However with slavia what skoda has done is that it has matched city in terms of space, practicality and comfort(okay I still will say city is more comfortable but there isn't a big difference). And on top of that it has also provided some really good to have features like Ventilated seats, Wireless charging, Cooled glovebox, front adjustable arm rest, rear adjustable head rest, 60-40 split rear seats plus has a better GC. Hence it becomes an overall better package.

    The Corning test doesn't look scientific at all... Corning is more of a skill than a feature of the car...It's just a technique and timing...like F1 racing... Cannot come to concussion with this test...it was more of Corning test of the driver than the car itself...

    • @SuperAlanmax
      @SuperAlanmax 2 года назад

      True to a certain extent. Especially with the number of factors involved in cornering. Weight transfer, braking, acceleration etc. So we try and cut these factors down to the absolute minimum. Speed is fixed, using cruise control where possible, we don't brake either so the car is basically entering the corner completely neutral in terms of weight balance and then the only variation is turn in point. This we use the cones as markers as well as doing multiple runs to insure that the entry point and initial line is more or less the same. Plus for each test the driver is the same as well so this removes another variable. So the test is aimed to show the basic cornering potential of the car and the point at which it starts to understeer wide. Hope this helps.

    • @abhayprabhu4256
      @abhayprabhu4256 2 года назад
